Jesus And Bible Versus: The Ultimate Example Of Loneliness

Salvation through Faith ALONE (only) in the whole Bible?

God himself, in the person of Jesus, experienced isolation in all its most painful forms. But rather than avoiding it, he sought out isolation and desolation, even though those around him often resisted his efforts.

In many instances in the gospels, Jesus seems exhausted by his ministry. The gospel writer Mathew records that “...he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns” .

Jesus knew well the pain of desertion and rejection from those closest to him. But he also gave us an example of how to move through that pain. In John 16:32, Jesus tells his apostles, “Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.”

But the most painful moment for Jesus and one which we can all relate to was when he felt that even God had left him alone when he was dying on the cross. The gospel writer Mathew records that “About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’” .

We might use these words as ultimate proof that even Jesus despaired in times of hardship. However, this is not the end of the story.

Deuteronomy : 8 The Lord Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You

The LORD Himself goes before you He will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

~ Deuteronomy 31:8

When people are lonely, they tend to feel like God has abandoned them.

I think this is a lie from the enemy. God never leaves us, and He is always with us.

Work For Meaningful Connections Instead Of Waiting For Them To Come To You

It can be easy to relish the role of victim, to think no one has it as hard as I do, to believe the reasons Satan feeds us to make us think that is true, and actually indulge in self-pity. When the temptation comes to sit by yourself and wallow in your own feelings, rather overcome them and go out and do something with and/or for others. This builds love, unity, brotherhood and fellowship.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one anothers burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down ones life for his friends.

Philippians 2:3-4

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

1 John 1:7

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Corinthians : 13 Trust In God

Jesus said," Never will I leave you or forsake you," so even in your ...

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

~ 1 Corinthians 10:13

The Bible doesnt promise that we wont face trials, loneliness, and difficulties in life. It does say, however, that God is always there to help us through them. Therefore, we must be careful not to give in to temptation when it comes because we can trust God always to provide us with an escape route from our troubles if we ask Him for it.

Final Words On Loneliness

There are those who will constantly reject companionship because they were let down by others or because of a bad attitude. The best we can do for these people as Christians is to model the consistent and practical mercy of God by being available, by showing kindness without flattery, and by flinging the doors of the church wide open.

A church should provide a welcoming break from isolation for anyone, seeker or saved. Whether born-again or not, we can pray for lonely individuals to meet with God who is all-sufficient to meet their emotional needs in Christ.
