Bible Verse On Forgiving Others

Matt 1: 32 Bible Verse About Forgiveness After Death

Bible Verses about Forgiveness – Uplifting Scriptures to Forgive Yourself and Others

Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

In this life or the next, or even after death, there is no forgiveness in deliberate acts against the Holy Spirit. This is why we must be careful with what we say. This is because some of our actions and words have serious consequences.

Jesus Is Not Only On Your Side When You Need Forgiveness But He Himself Was The Sacrifice That Allows You To Be Forgiven

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

When you sin, you may feel alone, but thats not true: Jesus is on your side. He is the one who stands between you and God to ask that you be forgiven.

But He does so much more than just ask. He sacrificed Himself and took on the penalty for your sin so God can forgive you without excusing your sin.

Whats even more amazing is that Jesus didnt sacrifice Himself for just some people or just the really good people. He sacrificed Himself for the whole world: every single person. You can never be too bad or too far away from God. Anyone can trust in Jesus sacrifice and be forgiven.

Hopeful Bible Verses About The Power Of Forgiveness

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’ “

But What About The Person Who Hurt You

I wrote in the other post that you need to forgive the person you are angry with, and I stand by that statement.

When Jesus taught the disciples how to pray, He gave them the Lord’s Prayer. Part of that prayer, spoken by Jesus Himself, reads:

“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.” Matthew 6:12

Right after that, Jesus says this:

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15

I personally find this a little bit confusing because it says in 1 John 1:9-10 and Luke 24:46-47 that all your sins are forgiven, but then it also says that you will not be forgiven if you don’t forgive others. There are people way smarter than me who debate these points, and I’m not going to do that here, but I think that, if Jesus thought it was important enough to talk about, I think it’s worth consideration.

The only explanation that I can come up with to make sense of the seeming contradiction above is that maybe forgiving others is part of repentance.

HOWEVER, and this is a big point, forgiveness is not the same as erasing the crime of the other person.

What The Bible Says About Forgiveness And Letting Go

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

~ Mark 11:25

Whatever our motive for forgiving others is, the bottom line is that God has informed us that if we forgive others, He will forgive and heal us.

That being said, we see faith at work in forgiveness, in the sense that if we forgive others, we expect God to forgive us also.

This nature of faith is such that we will not see anything, but we will trust what God has stated to be true. When you have confidence in God, it is much simpler to forgive people.

The Bible teaches that we must do what He does as Gods offspring. And one of the many things God is known for is forgiveness.

Luke 2: 34 Even Jesus Christ Forgives

But Jesus was saying, Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

~ Luke 23:34

In this passage, Jesus asks His Father to pardon those who organized his death sentence. A closer interpretation of this text demonstrates that Jesus request was courageous.

Courage is the capacity to remain strong in the face of adversity. It took strength for Christ to face death, much alone forgive the perpetrators it will take courage for you to forgive those who have wronged you as we are instructed in the Bible.

Because Jesus is your best example, if He was brave enough to forgive others, so should you. Find your inner power, disregard your spiteful and angry sentiments, and then dismiss them.

Forgiving Those Who Don’t Ask For Forgiveness

As Jesus suffered on the cross, he asked God to forgive those who wrongly condemned him to death. Often those who offend us never ask for our forgiveness or admit any wrong-doing. Forgiving these people is perhaps the hardest. But Jesus is our example for forgiving those who don’t appear to be sorry or ask to be forgiven.

“Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing” .

“The one who forgives an offense seeks love, but whoever repeats a matter separates close friends” .

Acts : 38 On The New Era Of Forgiveness From God

Video Bible Study: Forgiving Others

And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

On the day of Pentecost, the holy spirit fell on the disciple of Christ. They started speaking in an unknown language that surprised all that listened. They were marveled at Gods power, and they asked Peter what they would do to be on Gods side.

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Acts 2:37

Peter replied that they must repent and be forgiven. Repentance is essential when asking for forgiveness from God. You must change your ways and follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

If you commit fornication, adultery, lie, or murder, you must stop these evil acts. Only then will God understand that youve realized your sins and forgive you.

It is pretty easy to get forgiveness from God if we choose to repent from our sinful ways and stick to righteousness wholeheartedly.

Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out Acts 3:19

Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool Isaiah 1:18

Forgiveness Is What Makes The God Of The Bible Unique

Where is another God like You, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of His special people? You will not stay angry with Your people forever, because You delight in showing unfailing love. Once again You will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under Your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!

Not only is forgiveness at the heart of the biblical story, but the unearned nature of Gods forgiveness is unique. Other worldviews require you to earn your way to God or a higher state of being. Whether its by being particularly good or particularly religious or mastering certain practices, you need to do something if you want to get to that worldviews ultimate goal.

The Bible clearly states that Gods forgiveness is free. He already did all that needed to be done so we can be forgiven and have a relationship with Him forever.

In most worldviews, good works come before you can get the ultimate goal of the worldview. In Christianity, good works come after. All you need to do is to ask God for forgiveness, and He grants you a relationship with Him forever in heaven.

Because of the forgiveness we receive, we are commanded to do good and forgive others. Good works are an outflow of forgiveness, not a requirement for obtaining it. There truly is no other God who forgives like the God of the Bible.

God Can Fix Any Relationship

Allow God to work in you and the other party and make a broken thing beautiful. Go to Him and pray that His hands move in your life. God is faithful to move.

25. Jeremiah 32:27 I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

I want to add that sometimes we sin against people and we are ashamed of our actions. We might say, sorry to the offended person, but guilt still remains. Many people say that you have to forgive yourself, but that statement is not found in the Bible.

We can either trust in Gods mercy and forgiveness in Christ or we can believe Satan and his lies. Confess your sins, let go, and move on. Trust in the Lord and ask Him for help with this situation and also with understanding His grace.

Forgiveness Doesnt Require Ignoring That A Wrong Has Been Done You Can Call Out A Wrong And Still Be Ready To Forgive

If another believer sins, rebuke that person then if there is repentance, forgive. Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive.

Forgiveness is not the same as pretending that someone did nothing wrong. When you have a relationship with another Christian and that person does something wrong, correcting them and urging them to repent is a good thing. At the same time, having grace and forgiving that person is also essential.

There may very well be consequences for that persons wrong actions. When God forgives us, He often still allows us to face the consequences of our actions. If you steal, God will forgive you, but you are still responsible for breaking the law and the legal consequences that result. It is a tricky balance to allow for consequences without holding peoples sins against them when they repent, but that is what God does for you and what He calls you to do for others.

Forgiving Others Allows Us To Move Forward

Forgiving someone for something they did to us is freeing in many ways. For starters, it allows us to move forward, instead of being stuck in the past. When we actively forgive someone, we begin the process of healing. And healing allows us to move forward.

This is especially true if we forgive someone who doesnt ask for it. We may want to withhold forgiveness from them, which totally makes sense. But, sometimes forgiveness isnt about the other person. Sometimes forgiveness needs to be done for our own sake. Forgiveness at these times allows us to move forward and get on with the rest of our lives!

You Do Not Have To Clean Up Your Life Before You Seek Gods Forgiveness Seek Gods Forgiveness And He Will Help You Change Your Life

God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in Gods sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from Gods condemnation.

This is one of the most profound and wonderful truths in the Bible: God forgives people who are still sinners those who rebel against God and go their own way. Before anyone was able to prove themselves good enough or worthy which isnt possible in your own strength apart from Him God willingly came to earth in the person of Jesus to pay the price for sins so that you could have a relationship with Him. He did this because He loves you deeply.

God chose this act of love and forgiveness knowing that some people would still reject Him and go their own way. He chose to die for the sins of the whole world because He knew the world couldnt save itself.

As youve most likely experienced, its much easier to forgive when other people apologize, try to make things right or ask you for forgiveness. However, as we see above, thats not what God does or asks you to do. God leads by example. He reached out to a broken world full of broken people. He made the first move. He sacrificed His life for you, whether you ever choose to follow Him or not. He did this regardless of your response, and it cost Him dearly.

We Must Not Give Up On Others

Just like God doesnt give up on us we are not to give up on others. There are some people that are married to alcoholics and the alcoholic spouse continues to ask for forgiveness and I know it is hard for the other spouse. However, once again we must forgive.

19. Luke 17:3-4 Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, I repent, forgive him.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

We live in a sinful world, and though we always strive to be perfect in Christ, we may fall into sin. This is because even in birth, we were born into sin. And therefore, we must continue to beg God when we go against his instructions.

If we sin, we must confess to him about whatever we have done. There is no unforgiveness with God. Instead, he will cleanse us from all sins we have committed and bring us back into his fold.

From the moment we forgive others, God will set us free. The Power of God can clear all unrighteousness and sin.
