Bible Verses For Anxiety And Worry

DO NOT FEAR | Bible Verses to Overcome Fear | Christian Meditation

I read words – of life – of truth. Soaking them in, over and over, praying them out loud. Until they became so familiar, they replaced the other things in my mind that Id battled against. Theres nothing magical about words and verses, but there is power through them because theyre Gods words.

Change happened. Anxious thoughts began to diminish. Worry let go of its constant grip. And though fear is sometimes still there, it no longer wields control, holding me back, paralyzing me in its grasp.

His words are life words, soothing to our soul, calming to our spirits, giving power to our days.

Its not always easy, and it often comes down to a choice:

  • Choosing not to allow fear and anxiety to control your life.
  • Choosing to guard your heart.
  • Choosing to focus your mind on what is true in the midst of uncertain times.

We might still feel afraid, but we can believe that God is with us. We may not be in control, but we can trust the One who is. We may not know the future, but we can know the God who does.

Bible Verses On Overcoming Fear And Anxiety Biblically

Dexter loves to read, study, and share the word of God with love.

Fear and anxiety are one of many ways of attracting setbacks into our life. Fear and anxiety have tormented, robbed, beaten, and wounded many of their victims.

Fear and anxiety start with a thought which then affects our emotions. our emotion is the control tower of our actions. So, when our emotion is affected, our judgments becomes unstable, and our actions regrettable.

Even our progress to become who God has called us to be is blocked. Fear and anxiety are no respecter of persons. They affect great and small, Christians and non-Christians alike.

The aftermath of fear’s evil sting tells the story. Broken families without hope, dormant dreams and aspirations, and unfaithful spouses contemplating on making it right – but fearing it’s too late to amend.

Fear breeds endless anxieties in different forms. whether it’s a mother saying goodbye to her son and fearing he might not return home from his quest to make hence meet.

A father conscious of his ill health ponders how his family will survive without him. Children are anxious over where their next meal, school supplies, and school fees will come from.

Or even a wife living in constant fear of an abusive husband. Whether you like it or not, fear is everywhere.

But you don’t have to live in fear and anxiety, there’s an escape route. In Christ’s resurrection, He conquered Satan, and through faith, we have victory fear.

Be Aware Of The Devils Schemes

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

In todays world, it is easy to diminish the devil to a small cartoon character wielding a pitchfork and donning two red horns. Yet, Satan is a powerful force in this world, and he influences those that are apart from God. Scripture says he prowls around like a lion looking to devour. Lions are not small animals!

While you can put your trust in God, you still need to keep your guard up and protect your heart from the influence Satan can have in your life if you give him grounds to do so.

What Does This Verse Not Mean

Do not fear, for I am with you do nor be afraid, for I am ...

Thus far we have addressed the question what does the verse God has not given us a spirit of fear mean. Lets now turn the tables and look at what this verse does not mean. When you look throughout the pages of Scripture, one of the things you will notice is that God never tells anyone to be fearless. Fear or timidity can be a normal human emotion especially when you consider the circumstances.

In Luke chapter 1 for instance the angel Gabriel visits Mary and one of the things he tells her is do not be afraid. I have never seen an angel . Gabriel has never appeared to me with a message from God, but I am sure if he did, my reaction would be just like Marys fear. Under those circumstances fear is a natural human emotion.

If you are facing persecution, a bad diagnosis, an uncertain future, a job loss, financial challenges or if you are about to step out into new ministry fear or timidity may arise. God does not want you running around with a big S on your chest, trying to be superman or superwoman, acting like you arent afraid of anything. You dont have to be fearless. But you also dont have to be overcome by fear.

Gods Command To Fear Not

God says Do not fear hundreds of times throughout the Bible. But what does that mean? Was my 7th-grade-self sinning? Are you wrong to feel fear when youre not sure how to pay next months rent or when you get that dire health diagnosis or when your job is on the line?

No. Youre not wrong. God wired our brains to experience fear. It is a primary emotion. There is a reason and purpose for our fear as we respond to triggering stimuli. When God says, Do not fear he is not commanding us to shut off a part of our brain. His model citizen isnt an emotionless and stoic robot.

The real issue God wants us to wrestle with is where we go when we fear. Where do you go with your fears? How do you deal with them?

Simply put, God wants us to come to him. Fear can paralyze us. Yet when we fear in the presence of God, God help us take the next step of faith even in the midst of our fear! Unfortunately, no one will be able to escape fear in this sinful and broken world. It is real. It can be paralyzing. It is powerful.

But God is more powerful.

He has the power and desire to be with us in the midst of our fears. Remembering this will enable to us to take the next step of faithfulness in our lives. How? Because God is with us. We can continue to fight to believe Jesus is more in and through our fears thanks to his presence with us.

Meditate On Who God Is

Once we know who is with us, then we need to daily remind ourselves who he is: God! The King of kings, the Lord of lords, and the Creator of all heaven and earth walks with us. For I am your God, he says in v.10.

He is not one of the small g gods that the Israelites used to worship. He is not the little idols that we worship today money, perfection, fame, or fortune. But he is the great I AM . He is the one who parted the waters for Moses, who can part the seas of doubt and fear for us.

We need to spend time meditating on Gods Word to understand who he is. When we do that, we will also understand who we are we will see the depths of our sin against him and our need for Jesus, the Savior, to reconcile us to God. We will have a deeper understanding of who God is our Lord and Savior. Only then will we know the reason we have to not be afraid. Only by consistently abiding in his Word will we understand Gods great power. This brings us to the last reason to not be afraid.

Who Wrote 1 Timothy

The letters to Timothy were written by the Apostle Paul. They are a part of what are commonly called the Pastoral epistles, which include 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. Timothy was Pauls younger protégé and was a pastor in the church of Ephesus. Pauls message to him was to encourage him in his role.

The first letter to Timothy gives him detailed instructions as to how the local church should look and function. By the time we get to the second letter, which is Pauls last letter written, Paul is aware that the end of his own life is near. He is writing to Timothy again as a final encouragement to keep the faith and keep going.

What Did Jesus Say About Fear

There are many times when Jesus addressed fear while he was on earth. Jesus spoke to the disciples about a time when they would face persecution by others in Matthew 10:18.

He told his disciples to not be afraid, .

So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Matthew 10:26-28

When Jesus resurrected from the grave in Matthew 28, he appeared to the women at the tomb.

Then Jesus said to them,

Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee there they will see me.

Jesus also spoke powerfully about fear and worry when he taught his followers to not worry about tomorrows needs.

If God knows that the birds of the air need food, and he clothes the flowers of the field with beauty and splendor, he will most certainly take care of ushis beloved children!

Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32

Jesus speaks so tenderly to us in this passage, lovingly calling his followers his little flock. Our Lord, the Great Shepherd, knows what we are in need of, and we can rest in the gentle, green pastures of his love and peace.

Top 5 Scriptures That Banish Fear

When I think about the root cause of so many mistakes and spiritual pitfalls in my life, the source seems to be the one and only, the ugly, fear. Fear will cause us to buckle and settle for less than God’s best. It’ll cause us to disobey after diluting our trust in Him, and even when do stay strong, it’ll rob us of our peace and joy. Here are some of the best scriptures helping us overcome fear by increasing our faith. Deuteronomy 31:8 “He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid do not be discouraged.” When you’re fearing a situation or emotional challenge, really envision God saying this, just to you. He’s on your side. No matter who leaves after promising forever. When friends, family members or co-workers disappoint you, he’ll never turn on you. Some of my lowest, most painful moments in life have also been my closest times with the Lord. I’ll never forget crying in fetal position on my kitchen floor after a brutal break up, and feeling the presence of God’s comfort and love like never before. It was so powerful I found myself laughing through the tears, as Duet. 31 burned in my heart: I am here. You will be okay. I’m all you need, and you’re never going to be alone. That was ten years ago, and he’s never let me down.

A Prayer Against Faithless Fears

Pin on Bible Verses to Live By

O most loving Father, you want us to give thanks for all things, to dread nothing but losing you, and to cast all our anxiety on you because you care for us. Preserve us from faithless fears and worldly anxieties and grant that no clouds of this mortal life may hide from us the light of that love which is immortal, and which you have shown us in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
