Besides the Bible, the Methodist church also teaches from the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church and the Twenty-five Articles of Religion. The Methodist way of living was developed from three basic precepts from John Wesley: shun evil and avoid partaking in wicked deeds at all costs, perform kind acts as much as possible, and abide by the edicts of God the Almight Father. Still We Dont Have It All Together

The Global Methodist Church recently left – breaking covenant and declaring themselves the home for conservative Methodists. This isnt true. Conservative Methodists have no reason to leave home. This isnt a split. These folks left.

Some progressives within the UMC claim victory, threaten to leave if the denomination doesnt bend to their will, or break denominational rules as civil disobedience forgetting that we live in covenant. These progressive sisters and brothers are part of this family, too.

Our denominations future is complicated, but we will not be manipulated and used by those who leverage culture wars to provoke unnecessary divorce distracting from the cause of Christ.

Therefore, I remain hopeful! People are falling in love with Jesus who changes lives daily. Here, the Spirit recently moved 400 people into active community ministry and our congregation gave an unexpected $132,000 to local ministries.

We are in the Scriptures learning and living the Gospel in the real world. God is teaching us how to believe the best about each other until it becomes true. This is home for me.

Our family dysfunction is on full display. Well neither hide from it nor be distracted by it.

When this controversy subsides, well be growing disciples of Jesus Christ who know Him, love Him, and serve Him for the transformation of Murfreesboro and the world.

This is whats really happening in your United Methodist Churches.

TRC Construction Services began exterior demolition work on some structures at 123 E. College beginning Friday, July 16, 2021, as initial preparation phases for construction of a highly anticipated mixed-use development gets underway.

The One East College, LLC mixed-use development will be constructed on 2.42 acres along East College, North Spring Street, East Lytle Street, and North College Street. Interior demolition work had begun in January 2020.

Brian Davis, president and C.O.O. of TRC Construction Services, Inc., stated that as part of demolition and to be in compliance with safety protocol, We will close some City street parking spaces in phases. Each phase will require closure of some parking with spaces reopening upon completion of the phase. We will make every effort to close as few spaces as possible.

The original church and bell tower will be renovated and remain to be incorporated into the redevelopment. Construction on the new buildings for the mixed-use development is not expected until the first half of 2022, following construction plan development and approval.

Due to the Covid-pandemic, however, original plans for a 110-unit hotel were amended with Council approval, May 20, 2021, into one-bedroom/studio units that could be converted to a boutique hotel if the opportunity presents itself.

Hotel Will Benefit Mtsu

Virtual Campus

The project’s hotel also should benefit the downtown and Middle Tennessee State University, Tindall said.

The church sanctuary is not listed on the National Register of Historic Places, nor is it located in the citys historic district, according to the news release.

The First United Methodist Church congregation relocated from its downtown property in 2003 after opening a new building on Thompson Lane near Siegel Schools.

City Seeks Tax Break On Project

The city will be pursuing tax increment financing for the project that will be used to add public parking, Smotherman said.

TIFs allow developers to keep their property taxes based on appraisal values before the completed improvements. The net increase in property taxes after improvements can then be used on infrastructure or project financing.

The TIF for the parking garage will need approval from the Rutherford County Industrial Development Board, Smotherman said.

“Obviously parking is a concern in the downtown areas,” Smotherman said. “This project is intended to not just bring business to downtown but to resolve some of the parking issues that have existed.”

Mayor Shane McFarland said in the news release that the city is excited to close on the historic church property for redevelopment.

We believe this mixed-use development balances both the need for downtown economic development and preservation of this historic amenity important to Murfreesboros character and tourism,” McFarland said.

These Divisive Questions Disappoint A Church Striving To Be Pro

The real questions for the church are:

How do we understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ found in Scriptures?

How shall we order our lives to live that Gospel?

Healthy Methodists ask these questions. Consequently, LGBTQIA+ persons find a healthy home within our church which affirms traditional marriage, says homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching, and all persons are of sacred worth. Only God can resolve this paradox!

We have answered the fundamental human sexuality question in Gospel light: Can LGBTQIA+ persons be faithful Christians?

The Bible says yes. One who professes faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior is to be called and treated as a Christian. Loving community comprised entirely of sinners being saved by Gods grace nourishes that faith.

In this community of Christ followers, all identify as sinners being saved by Gods grace. We accept each other as Jesus has accepted us, bear with each other in love, and help each other mature with gracious, mutual accountability. It is a holy mystery for the worlds good.

We order our covenant life from Gospel perspective not non-Biblical perspectives demanding selective moral perfection before inclusion in Christs family.

Christians must be humble and careful living this Gospel in the 21st century – trusting God to open hearts to Jesus. If youre among the 77% of people searching for church home nearby, we will love you, share struggles and questions, and walk humbly with you on this journey with Jesus.

What’s Coming To Downtown

The development will use a design that’s consistent with the historic character of the downtown area, the news release states.

One East College, LLC is led by Nick Patel of Detroit, Michigan, Suri Ramanna, Nashville chairman and CEO of TRC Construction Services Inc., and Dhvanit Patel, a Tampa real estate developer.

These developers have been studying the engineering and other technical aspects of the proposed development.

The Murfreesboro City Council voted Oct. 18, 2018, to approve a purchase and sale agreement with the developer.
