Good Shepherd Pastoral Council Update

Sixth Sunday of Easter – 2022

The last year-and-a-half has been a challenge for everyone due to the pandemic. We have used this time to review and evaluate the current goals of our Parish Pastoral Council. This included the formation of two committees: Word and Worship and Community and Service, as defined in our Pastoral Plan. Our lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish has also completed the same work and is moving forward with their Pastoral Plan as well. A few years ago, our parish was linked with Our lady of the Immaculate Conception and during the process, we found that both parishes share many of the same strengths and challenges. Both groups agreed that a Joint Parish Pastoral Council would be more practical to accomplish our goals. What does this mean for our parish? Nothing changes no churches are going to be closed, finances will continue to be separate, and both parishes will continue to operate independently. So why the change? This will eliminate duplicate tasks, share resources, coordinate communications, promote spiritual development, build a deeper appreciation of the liturgy, encourage increased parishioner participation, and nurture a more robust community outreach in both parishes. We are truly blessed to have a great group of talented people in both churches and together, we can accomplish our goals, grow our faith, and carry out Gods work in our communities.

    Announcements

On this 31st Sunday of Ordinary Time, we have the story of the tax collector named Zacchaeus. Tax collectors in Jesuss time were not very popular. They were hired by the Roman government to collect taxes from the Jewish folk. Many tax collectors charged exorbitant fees, well above what they should have collected. People were outraged that Jesus would go to the house of this sinner. Zacchaeus was a just tax collector. Unfortunately, people judged him by his title.

The lesson in todays Gospel was not for Zacchaeus, but for the people. They judged both Zacchaeus and Jesus. Whom will you welcome into your home? Who are the people you will judge?

    Act Of Spiritual Communion

One of the hardest parts of social distancing is not being able to receive the Holy Eucharist during Mass. For those of you who are participating in the Mass on television or with Father Kloton or Father Arun on YouTube, the following is the Prayer for Spiritual Communion. It can be said when you would normally receive the Host. We hope this gives you some small comfort until we can be together at Mass again.
