Bishop Chairmen Implore Congress To Reverse Course On Harmful Respect For Marriage Act

11/23/22 8:30 am

WASHINGTON In advance of Mondays Senate vote on H.R. 8404, the Respect for Marriage Act , Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan of New York, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee for Religious Liberty, and Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester, chairman of the USCCBs Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, issued a joint letter and analysis urging Congress to oppose the measure.

Our opposition to RMA by no means condones any hostility toward anyone who experiences same-sex attraction. Catholic teaching on marriage is inseparable from Catholic teaching on the inherent dignity and worth of every human being. To attack one is to attack the other. Congress must have the courage to defend both.

What Is Spiritual Renewal And Baptism In The Spirit

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is an action of God, invited by an individual through prayer, which brings about a deeper conversion to Christ, and which gives the Holy Spirit permission to work in that individual’s life in a more powerful way. It’s not a sacrament, but it re-ignites the graces already given to Christians through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. And it’s also a new, fresh experience of the Holy Spirit and His charisms which inspire and equip the individual for service, for mission, for discipleship and for life. More information HERE.

The Pope’s Monthly Intention For November

For Children who sufferIn his November video, brought to you by the Popes Worldwide Prayer Network, Francis invites us to pray for the millions of boys and girls who suffer and live in conditions very similar to slavery, and he asks us to open our eyes to the exploitation of these children who dont have a right to play, to study, to dream. They dont even enjoy the warmth of a family. They dont even have the warmth of a family. Those who are homeless, orphans, and victims of war: the world is full of children without a childhood, and each of them the Pope says in this video is a cry that rises up to God and shames the system that we adults have built.

    MASK REQUIREMENT LIFTED

Governor Inslee has lifted the masking requirement in many indoor settings. Starting March 12, in accordance with guidance from the State of Washington and Bishop Tyson, face coverings are no longer required when attending Mass or participating in any events held in the PCC. Parishioners may continue wearing masks for reasons of health or concern over transmissibility of the COVID-19 virus. At the Parish of the Holy Spirit, we will continue to make masks and hand sanitizer available in our church, Parish Community Center and parish office.

Thank you for your cooperation during the long period of the masking requirement. Your compliance with this safety measure contributed to the protection of us all, especially the most vulnerable in our midst.

What Happens At The Prayer Meetings

There is no set format, but the meeting will usually start with a time of praise and worship – including contemporary praise songs. There may be readings of short extracts of Scripture, followed by a time of silent meditation. We usually pray for Spiritual Renewal and a fresh infilling of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and we always set aside time to pray for the needs of those present, their families and friends, the Parish, other issues of concern, and healing ministry. The meeting lasts an hour and is followed by a time of fellowship over coffee and biscuits.
