Tradition tells us that James the Just was pushed from the pinnacle of a temple he was preaching at, and then beaten with a fullers club and stoned to death. In art, James son of Alphaeus is typically portrayed with a fullers club, reflecting the churchs assumption that he was the same person as James the Just.

However, the tradition which claims James son of Alphaeus preached in Egypt says he was crucified in the city of Ostrakine.

Hippolytus, a theologian who lived in the second and third centuries, allegedly recorded James death in On the Twelve Apostles of Christ:

But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ which is far better. Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again. Philippians 1:22-26

Schneider answered, Who are the Hebrews, which host Ken Jennings said was correct.

Why Did Nero Execute Paul

Nero was a madman who claimed that all Christians should die. The crimes of Christians were not known except by the name they confessed. A man was martyred during Neros reign just because he claimed that Jesus Christ as Lord.

Nero executed the apostle Paul because he was a Christian. And because he was spreading the name of Jesus Christ to everyone and claiming that He had risen. Because he was a Roman citizen, Paul was killed by beheading, and his brother in Christ, Peter, was condemned to be crucified, but he asked to be crucified upside down. So that he would not be on the Cross because he did not feel worthy to die on the Cross like his Teacher. And so both apostles were killed there.

Nero punished those who confessed to being Christians with all their manhood. So he followed the idea that the name Christian itself should be punished. But, as we will see in the following material, he had very little detail about the Christian faith. As a result, countless Christians died because of the negligence of Roman judges.

How Did Andrew Die

Peters brother Andrew allegedly suffered a similar death, but the origin of this tradition isnt as reliable.

According to tradition, Andrew was martyred by crucifixion in the Greek city of Patras around 60 AD. Like his brother, Peter, Andrew didnt consider himself worthy to die in the same way as Jesus, and so he was boundnot nailedto a cross which was hung in an X shape instead of a T. For this reason, an X-shaped cross is sometimes referred to as Saint Andrews Cross.

Unfortunately, the origin of this narrative isnt exactly trustworthy.
