An intriguing fact about deuterocanonical books, especially the ones found in the Apocrypha, is that some are extended versions of canonical books. Prime examples are Apocryphal Daniel and Esther.
The deuterocanonical Book of Daniel has three additional sections known as Bel and the Dragon, The Prayer of Azariah, and Susanna. Bel and the Dragon is Daniels fourteenth chapter in the Septuagint. It recounts several stories centering on the prophet Daniel and his interactions with a false god Bel and a dragon worshipped as a false god. In one episode, Daniel defeats the priests of Bel who were deceiving King Cyrus. In another event, Daniel slays a revered dragon. Thus, Daniel humiliates the Persian-Babylonian gods twice in one book. One final scene includes the Judean prophet Habbakuk. During Daniels second visit to the lions den, an angel commands Habbakuk to take some food to Daniel. Habakkuk is naturally confused by this directive, so the angel carries him by the hair to Babylonright next to the den. Daniel receives the meal and thanks God. The angel quickly returns Habbakuk to his home in Judea.
What Is The Difference Between The Protestant Bible And The Catholic Bible
The main difference between the Protestant Bible and the Catholic Bible is the total number of books each one is comprised of. The Catholic Bible has seven more books than the Protestant Bible, giving it a total of 46 books.
The New Testament books are the same but the Old Testament books differ. The additional books of the Catholic Bible include Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiasticus, Baruch, and First and Second Maccabees. There is also additional text to the books of Daniel and Esther.
The difference in the number of books that comprise each one is not due to one group adding or deleting from the other, but it is rather because of the different standards that each group used to determine what should be included in their Bible. There are a few cases of terms that crop up a lot in the books of the bible, but that get confused in everyday language. We just want to focus in on two the different terms for “God’s chosen people” in the Bible, and how God is identified and named.

The Bible is composed of two major sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is made up of 39 individual books the New Testament is made up of 27 books, giving the protestant Bible a total of 66 books.

The Catholic Church only recognizes 7 of these, but some denominations recognize more. . However, The three earliest Greek manuscripts dont contain those exact 7. They contain only some of the list. Notice the books below in red? Those books arent considered canon by the Catholic Church OR Protestants.
So theres no help from the extant copies of the Bible to support those exact 7. This doesnt meant he Catholics are wrong about those exact 7, but it does mean theres very little manuscript support for those exact 7.

There were two primary canons in the Old Testament at the time of Christ, according to Catholic sources. If you search around the internet, you may find people who will try to cast doubt about the authenticity of the Bible. You however can be confident in how many books are in the Bible and why just those books are included. Ultimately the decision to include or not include books was not a random decision, made by the whim of man, but was truly led and inspired by the hand of God. It is his desire to protect and provide the truth of who he is to all of mankind. For this reason, he has preserved the authenticity of the scriptures. Scholars have investigated the issue for centuries, but many questions persist.
Over centuries, billions of people have read the Bible. Scholars have spent their lives studying it, while rabbis, ministers and priests have focused on interpreting, teaching and preaching from its pages.
As the sacred text for two of the worlds leading religions, Judaism and Christianity, as well as other faiths, the Bible has also had an unmatched influence on literatureparticularly in the Western world. It has been translated into nearly 700 languages, and while exact sales figures are hard to come by, its widely considered to be the worlds best-selling book.
But despite the Bibles undeniable influence, mysteries continue to linger over its origins. Even after nearly 2,000 years of its existence, and centuries of investigation by biblical scholars, we still dont know with certainty who wrote its various texts, when they were written or under what circumstances.

Dates Of New Testament Books
Some people like to set later dates for the New Testament books than what scholars have traditionally set. For example, even though there is ample evidence the Book of Acts was written in the 60s some people set the date later.
And this is true for most of the New Testament books. There is strong scholarship indicating early dates.
But what do we mean by early dates?
One of the first things to consider is that the author had to still be alive to write the books. Certain deaths of the authors are well documented historical facts recorded outside the Bible.
The Bible is shallow enough for a child not to drown, yet deep enough for an elephant to swim.

Then there are plenty of cues from the books themselves. The books mention times and places and the names of the emperors, places, and historical events at the time.
Another thing to consider is significant historical events NOT mentioned.
There are claims from some that the Book of Acts, for example, might have been written in the 70s. But wouldnt a book such as Acts certainly have mentioned the fall of Jerusalem and the burning of the Temple?
The Book of Acts mentions no such thing. So the scholarship supporting early dates is very solid.
Yet, liberal scholars like to set late dates that are poorly supported simply to cast doubt on these books. They do this because they have a clear and obvious anti-Bible perspective.
How Were The Books Decided Upon
The books in the Bible are considered the canon, which are simply the books that are accepted as part of Scripture. For the record, there are 39 books included in the Old Testament canon and 27 books in the New Testament canon. The question is how were these books in the Bible chosen and why just those? Lets answer this by looking at each testament separately.
The Old Testament scriptures were paramount to the Jewish religion, or Judaism. These scriptures were divided into three main sections: The Law, The Prophets, and The Writings. They were grouped a little bit differently than the way you would recognize the Old Testament today, but they still contain the same books. For example, the books of Joshua and Judges were included as among the writings of the Prophets, where today they are referred to more as historical books. Again, this doesnt change the messaging or authority of these books, it is just simply their groupings.
Jews recognized the authority of the Hebrew scriptures almost from the moment they were written. Consider for instance that Moses wrote the first 5 books, which is known as the Law. This was the basis for all Hebrew life and culture and was implemented as soon as Moses wrote them. You will also notice that Jesus and other New Testament writers referred to the Old Testament, even quoting from it. This gave further credibility to their authenticity and authority as the scriptures or the word of God.

New Testament: Who Wrote The Gospels
Just as the Old Testament chronicles the story of the Israelites in the millennium or so leading up to the birth of Jesus Christ, the New Testament records Jesuss life, from his birth and teachings to his death and later resurrection, a narrative that forms the fundamental basis of Christianity.
