How Many Times Fear Not In Bible

Does God Command Us To Love Him

God mentions “Do not fear” in the Bible 365 times.

God has instructed us to love him, not for Gods sake, but for our own. If we love God for this reason, it is because God first loved us, and we are grateful for that. That God initially loved us for the very same reason namely, that we could find our greatest good and happiness in him is a fascinating topic to consider.

Verses That Say Fear Him Not

  • Deuteronomy 3:2 And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
  • Numbers 21:34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.

7th grade. Top of the St. Louis Arch. I lean over to look down at the citythen the arch moved. I was in the grip of fear, and I now have the Arch to thank for my lasting fear of heights.

What do you fear? Where and how do you fear? Where do you panic and freeze up? What makes you paralyzed?

    The Inconvenient Fear Not Verses

How about Judges 4:18? That one was in the list.

Thats the verse in which the Israelite woman Jael went out to meet King Sisera and said to him, Come, my lord, come right in. Dont be afraid. So he entered her tent and she covered him with a blanket.

And we all know what happened next, right?

Thats not exactly a fear not verse Id want to hang on my wall.

Or I Samuel 28:13 The king said to her, Dont be afraid. What do you see?

Do you want to guess who was talking there, and to whom? Ill give you a minute.

That was King Saul telling the witch of Endor not to be afraid when the ghost of Samuel arose at her conjuring.

Nope, that one isnt too encouraging either.

There are a few more like that, but you can have the fun of finding them yourself, if you feel so inclined.

Besides those kind of creepy fear not verses, what I found when I studied all the fear not verses in the Bible was encouraging . . . in a couple of ways.

For one thing, Ive thought a lot about the people who feel guilty for their fear, and how the weight of fear not hangs over them when they continue having panic attacks or nameless anxieties. I think looking closely at the fear not Scriptures really can help relieve that guilt instead of simply increasing it.

Also, when you look closely at the fear not Scriptures, youll see that when our Lord speaks to people who are afraid, He doesnt treat their fear like a sin. He treats it more like an injury. Here, let me make this better.

Fear Not Bible Verses For Faith

And Jesus answered them, Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be taken up and thrown into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ~

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. ~ Hebrews 11:6

You believe that God is one you do well. Even the demons believeand shudder! ~ James 2:19

For nothing will be impossible with God. ~ Luke 1:37

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

How Many Times Does God Tell Us To Forgive

However, Jesus stated that seventy times seven was the correct number . Without a doubt, Jesus did not mean 490 times in a literal sense, but rather that the number of times should not be tallied. The forgiving concept taught by our Lord is as follows, and we may be convinced that he did not only bind it upon Peter, but also upon himself.

How Many Times Does The Bible Say Fear Not Or Be Not Afraid

Does the Bible really say “Fear Not” 365 times?

The phrases, Fear not or Be not afraid, occur 103 times in the King James Version of the Bible. It is a common misconception that this sentiment of reassurance occurs 365 or more times.

Isiah 41:10 is an example of a Fear not verse, reading Fear thou not for I am with thee: be not dismayed for I am thy God. In Matthew 10:26-33, it is advised to Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed and hid that shall not be known. In 1 Chronicles 22:13, a slight variation reads: dread not, nor be dismayed.

Fear itself is mentioned over 500 times in the King James Version of the Bible. This includes the reassuring Fear not and its variations, as well as the passages warning Christians to actively fear their God.

Often this fear of God is equated with virtue or wisdom. For instance, in Proverbs 8:13, it is said that The fear of the LORD is to hate evil. In Psalms 111:10, the fear of the LORD is said to be the beginning of wisdom and, in Proverbs 1:7, the beginning of knowledge. In 2 Chronicles 17:10 the fear of God is given as the reason for Judah making no war against Jehoshaphat.

Before 8 Am This Morning I Was Feeling Overwhelmed Which Is A Fancy Word For Fear

Saying Im overwhelmed makes me sound busy and sophisticated when what I really want to do is crawl under my covers and hide.

Instead, I sat down with a pen and paper to see why? . But what I did find was a pile of sneaky lies slithering around in the shadows of my thoughts. Hissing and making me feel small, helpless, and alone.

I wrote them down. They probably arent that much different than your lies- the good ol standbys. Your work isnt good enough. He/she is smarter, better, more productive than you. You suck. Youre stupid. Etc.

I know they arent true, but still they spew. And fill me up with poison sometimes. Then suddenly, I am very afraid.

    So this morning, I prayed.

Jesus, Im afraid. Apparently there is a fear not for each day of the year, but I need one for each minute, please. And since Im a big scaredy cat, could you please teach me about fear so I dont feel so dumpy?

    This is what I heard,

Fear is a cause to pause. An invitation to stop and seek My way forward.

I thought about the circumstances in scripture when The Lord says, fear not. These are pivotal times when His people have paused to ask for direction and courage. They are taking big risks facing their giants going into battle saying unpopular things traveling into unchartered territory being persecuted for their faith.

The things that come out of the mouth, on the other hand, originate from the heart, and they are what render a man unclean. Because bad thoughts, like as murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, and slander, arise from inside the heart. A mans uncleanness is determined by these factors nevertheless, eating with unwashed hands does not qualify as such.

    Hopeful Bible Verses About Fear

You shall not fear them, for it is the LORD your God who fights for you.

Fear can creep up on us when we least expect it. Sure, theres fear we can kind of expect when we subject ourselves to that yearly walk through one of the most haunted places in America on Halloween or sit down with some popcorn to watch a scary movie. But where do we turn with the other, more significant fears? Things like watching a loved one go through cancer treatment, or the potential of losing a job, having a miscarriage, or getting into a car accident. Unfortunately, there isnt a limit to what our brains can concoct that is potentially fearful, some of it legitimate and some of it irrational. Either way, we can find hope and an anchor in the storm that is our fear in Jesus because he has a lot to say about fear in scripture. Fear not is a common reminder in the Word, because we are often forgetful and we can try to imagine the future before it has even happenedleading to a lot of fear and anxiety. Jesus reminds us that we can trust God as our good Father. He will fight for us. He will cover us and protect us. He will calm the storms in our minds and hearts. All he asks is that we turn our eyes from our fears to Him.

As youre seeking comfort from your fear, also look toward Bible verses about anxiety, Bible verses about stress, and Bible verses about courage.

The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?

Ways The Bible Teaches Us Not To Fear

The Bible instructs us in ways to fight against the strongholds of fear, but none mean doing the fighting on our own. God is in our corner, wanting to fight our battles, so these are five ways the Bible teaches us not to fear by letting God take over.

    1. If you take your fears to God, He will destroy them for you.

Isaiah 35:4 says that those with fearful hearts can feel strong in the face of fear, knowing that God is there and will save you from the fears, delivering sweet vengeance as well. What is meant here is that while it may or may not mean that cancer, job loss, death of a child, or depression goes away immediately, God will take away the fear you might have that things wont change, bringing you love, hope, and strength to keep going.

    2. If you take your fears to God, you wont be left without answers.

    3. If you take your fears to God, you will see more of how much He loves and cares for you.

One of the most treasured Scriptures from 1 Peter is the one stating to Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you . We all know, or at least have heard of, that God loves us immensely. But when reading this Scripture verse, you realize that He wants you to give Him your fears because He loves you. Similar to how some earth-bound dads will ask about your problems and try to solve them for you, because they love you, God is the same that He doesnt want your fears to overshadow the love He can demonstrate by taking away those fears.

Jesus In The Gospels Of John Mark And Matthew

THE BOOK OF JOHN 6:20-21 20 But He assured them, saying, I am.Do not be afraid. 21 After that, they were delighted to welcome Him aboard the boat, and the boat arrived at the place where they were headed almost soon.Who was it who said, I am do not be afraid ?Jesus.

What does the phrase I am.Do not be afraid mean? The four original Greek words ego eimi me phobeisthe literally and figuratively mean I am not afraid, and in this context, It is I, is the most accurate translation.Dont be scared, or Dont be alarmed, or Dont be alarmed. Is this the whole account or just a shortened version of the account?

    • The abridged version.
    • A more detailed account may be found in Mark 6:47-51: 47 After sunset, the boat had sailed into open water, and He was all alone on land.
    • He couldnt see anybody else.
    • 48 In addition, He observed them laboring to row against the wind, which was against them.
    • In the fourth watch of the night, He came toward them, strolling on the water, and would have passed them by if they hadnt been paying attention.
    • Seeing Him strolling on the water, they believed it was a ghost and began screaming.

50 They were all startled when they saw Him and were disturbed.Take courage!I am here to help you.

  • 32 And the wind died down as soon as they got aboard the boat.
  • When the people in the boat saw Him, they came up to Him and worshipped Him, saying, Truly, You are the Son of God. The fourth watch of the night is when the sun goes down.

Fear Not! Biblical Truth for Conquering Fear.

I read words of life of truth. Soaking them in, over and over, praying them out loud. Until they became so familiar, they replaced the other things in my mind that Id battled against. Theres nothing magical about words and verses, but there is power through them because theyre Gods words.

Change happened. Anxious thoughts began to diminish. Worry let go of its constant grip. And though fear is sometimes still there, it no longer wields control, holding me back, paralyzing me in its grasp.

His words are life words, soothing to our soul, calming to our spirits, giving power to our days.

Its not always easy, and it often comes down to a choice:

    • Choosing not to allow fear and anxiety to control your life.
    • Choosing to guard your heart.
    • Choosing to focus your mind on what is true in the midst of uncertain times.

We might still feel afraid, but we can believe that God is with us. We may not be in control, but we can trust the One who is. We may not know the future, but we can know the God who does.
