Do Christians Go To Heaven When They Die

How to Get to Heaven According to the Bible

No, the Bible likens death to sleep for all people. That means that even Christians do not go anywhere upon death. Scripture does, however, reveal that Gods people will be resurrected at the return of Jesus Christ and will reign with Him on the earth.

This article will discuss the following topics:

What happens when we die? Nearly all Christian denominations teach a heaven or hell afterlife. Essentially, they believe that every human being has an immortal soul that will go straight to heaven or hell after the physical body dies.

There are many ideas about what heaven and hell are like, and about who will go to heaven and who will go to hell. But do the popular ideas about heaven and hell come from the Bible?

The Bible teaches very clearly that all human beings die: And as it is appointed for men to die once . Since death awaits us all, what happens after death is one of the most important questions we can askand answer!

Christ Died For A Reason

If universal salvation was real, then Christ did not need to die. He could have healed bodies and taught morality without forgiving sin. Instead, he went willingly to the cross, forgiving sinners the whole time.

The price for sin had to be paid, and only sinless, untainted blood was good enough. According to Jesus no one is good and anyone who honestly reflects upon his life, and sincerely probes his heart, knows that this is true. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace .

Will We Know Each Other In Heaven

This is one of the most frequently asked questions about heaven. I would like to share an answer given by a Bible teacher of another generation – a man named William Pettingill. He said, “We may be sure that we shall not know less in heaven than we know here.”

In proof he quotes 1 Corinthians 13:12, “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” How does God know us? Answer: He knows us completely, intimately, thoroughly, inside and out, with nothing hidden but everything seen as it really is . When we get to heaven we’ll know each other as God knows us because all the imperfections of this life will be removed. In this life sin causes us to cover ourselves-not just physically but emotionally and spiritually. But when sin is finally lifted from us, then we can be ourselves with no shame, no pain, no embarrassment, and no covering up.

Dr. Pettingill concludes that in heaven we will know every person in heaven and all of them will be friends and loved ones to us.

In his very helpful book on heaven, W.A. Criswell makes the additional point that individual personality survives into eternity. I’ll be the same person then that I am now-only with all the imperfections and limitations of sin finally removed. This is a wonderful thought-that the essence of who we are will remain throughout eternity-yet vastly improved by God’s grace.

If You Think Its Good Works That Get You To Heaven Youre Not Saved Heres Why

So many churches and religions today believe its their good works that get them to heaven.

They say they believe in Jesus but then they say you also need to be good and do good works to make it into heaven. This is an example of NOT putting all your faith on Jesus to save you.

Thats adding works to salvation.

Understand today that 100% of your faith must be on Jesus Christ to be saved. Listen to what Jesus says here in Matthew 7 verse 21 thru 23.

Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The majority of this world today doesnt believe in Jesus at all. Most dont even believe He existed. The other part believes in Him but they dont put all their trust in Him.

They think they can do good works that will earn them eternal life. They are trusting in themselves and not 100% Jesus. Faith is 100% Jesus.

Understand that your SOUL is sealed with the Holy Spirit. You will sin in this life but SIN is not counted to your soul. It is counted to your body, and thats why we die a physical death.

Your soul is 100% completely healed and perfected. Your body, obviously is not, since we still have issues and problems in our body. Plus, we all die a physical death.

How Does Someone Get To Heaven

Heaven is the dwelling place of Almighty God. It is where His holy nature shines unveiled and in its full glory and majesty. It is where the angels dwell in service and worship. It is a place of peace, beauty, and joy. This wondrous place is also where mans heart often yearns to be.

The Bible says that God loves His people, and wants to be in fellowship with them. When the world was created, Adam – the first man – and his wife Eve lived in harmony with God. In the Garden of Eden, there was a tree that could give man the knowledge of good and evil, when they only knew good.

When tempted, they both disobeyed God and ate the fruit of that tree, despite being told not to do so, because the Devil said they would become like God. From that moment forward, man could not be in Gods presence, choosing to sin rather than be holy and in communion with God.

In order for man to have a perfect way to get to heaven, God the Son – one of the persons of the Trinity – came to earth, grew up living a sinless life, and died as the perfect sacrificial lamb. Three days later Jesus was resurrected, proving by the power of God the gift of new life is available through Him, and will return one day for His people.

Being Good Isnt Enough

Pastor Shows How to Get To Heaven According to the Bible

There is a common assumption in society that as long as you lead a good life, you will be able to go to heaven. However the thought that all good people enter heaven isnt truth from the Bible. This belief assumes that though some bad people need punishment, that most are generally good and entitled to heaven. It also assumes that the entrance to heaven is on the basis of merit and our actions, and not because of Gods grace. However theres no righteous deed we can do that will earn us a place in heaven . Lastly, the thought suggests that hell is only for a few marginal people who do purely evil acts.

Being a good person only isnt going to get someone into heaven. When we sin, we fall short of Gods standards. Sin separates us from a relationship with God . God wanted to give us a way to free ourselves from our sin, so He blessed us with Jesus Christ. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life . Jesus died on the cross as the only one worthy to pay the penalty for our sins demanded by the holiness of God. But in victory over death, God raised Jesus from the grave, defeating the consequences of sin.

Once You Believe On Him You Receive Everlasting Life

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Jesus says once you believe, you receive eternal life, and you cant lose it.

John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Jesus says believe on Him and you HAVE everlasting life. He can give it to you right now if you simply believe on Jesus to save you. Once you have it, you cannot lose it because its eternal life.

Biblical Eye Witnesses To Heaven

There are several people in the Bible who have been eye witnesses to the heaven before they died. Elijah was caught up into heaven, taken up in a whirlwind he never tasted death . Like Elijah, Enoch who was said to have walked with God, was taken up into heaven without ever tasting death. The apostle John saw heaven through an open door so that he might see and record in the book of Revelation some of the things he saw in heaven .

While Paul was on the Damascus Road on his way to persecute Christians, He saw heaven open up but whether this was heaven itself or just the first heaven where he saw the light, we cannot be sure. Acts 9:3-4 described what Paul saw, As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? We do not know for sure, according to the scriptures, whether this was the third heaven, where the throne of God was or not, but can assume it was not for Paul only heard a voice from heaven and he saw only a light from heaven. Nonetheless, heaven is for real and it exists today in every sense of the word.

Is Heaven A Real Place

Many people are skeptical as to whether heaven is a real, physical place or just a fairytale. Heaven is, in fact, a very real place. It is a peaceful place, full of the glory of God. In heaven, believers will spend an eternity worshipping their Saviour and delighting in His presence. You can find more information on the reality of heaven here.

Heaven is the place where God dwells. Although there are passages in the Bible that hint to what heaven will look like, it is safe to say that the reality of heaven will far surpass those worldly images. There are several facts that we can learn about heaven throughout the pages of the Bible. A few of those include the following:

  • Heaven is Gods dwelling place.
  • Heaven is where Christ currently dwells.
  • Heaven is known as the Fathers House.
  • Christians go to Heaven when they die.
  • Heaven is paradise.

God has graciously given us insight into the glory that awaits us upon passing from this life. However, because of the grandeur of heaven, we could not even begin to comprehend its reality.

This is one of the reasons why the information we are provided with is limited. Heaven awaits Christians who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a very real place that will far surpass our greatest imaginations. And everyone has the opportunity to spend eternity there after death.

Are Most People Good

JESUS ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN . COM

The next assumption is that although some bad people may need punishment, most are generally good and entitled to heaven. The position that views people as generally good and entitled to heaven tends to make the error of viewing human nature as basically good. Biblical evidence as well as experiential evidence show this view to be false. As the Bible explains, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? . Psalm 51:5 comes across even stronger: Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

Biblically speaking, most people are not good. In fact, when compared to Gods standards of holiness, no one is good. To one degree or another, we all fall short of the glory of God . This does not mean that we are always actively engaged in doing evil or participating in depraved acts all the time. But it does mean that in our very nature we are fallen, in rebellion against God and incapable of saving ourselves.

How Do I Get To Heaven

How do I get to heaven? The story of the thief on the cross makes the answer to this question crystal clearthis man had no works to offer, either before or after his salvation. His salvation was only by grace of God. A. W. Pink asks:

What could he do? could not walk in the paths of righteousness for there was a nail through either foot. He could not perform any good works for there was a nail through either hand. He could not turn over a new leaf and live a better life for he was dying.

Truth can always be twisted by perverse people. The wonderful truth that God saves by grace, through faith and without works is no exception. A man said to Spurgeon, If I believed that, I would carry on in a life of sin, to which he replied, Yes, you would!

But the redeemed heart loves Christ. The forgiven sinner has a desire to please his Lord.

If the thief had been rescued from the cross and lived another 30 years, he would have lived a new and different life, but he did not have that opportunity. The fact that he entered paradise shows us with great clarity where our salvation lies.

Our salvation in Christ involves three marvelous giftsjustification, sanctification, and glorification. Justification is the gift by which our sins are forgiven, sanctification is the gift by which we grow in the likeness of Christ, and glorification is the gift by which we enter into the everlasting joy of heaven. If you get that, you get the Christian life.

But Jesus Provided The Only Way To Get To Heaven

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

We do not deserve Heaven, yet He still loves us! He loves us so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to suffer and die on the cross to take the punishment for our sins. Jesus was then buried, and three days later, He rose from the dead, proving that He was the Son of God. Jesus has already died in your place to take the punishment for your sin. If you dont accept His taking your punishment, then you will receive the punishment yourself, spiritual death in Hell. Please realize that Jesus took the punishment for your sins opened the only door that will let you enter into Heaven.

You Dont Get To Heaven By Being A Good Person

A common misconception is that you get to heaven by being a good person. You dont go to heaven if your good deeds outweigh your bad deeds. The Bible is very clear that this is not the case. No one would be good enough to earn heaven.

God doesnt grade on a curve when it comes to getting to heaven.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Eph. 2:8-9

Eph. 2:8-9 explains that you are saved by grace, through faith.

  • Grace means that we get to heaven by Gods gracious, free gift, not because we earned it.

Faith means that you get to heaven by believing in God and His way. Its based on something that He did, not something that you did.

  • Faith is trusting in God and what He did and not in yourself or something you did.

Its not a result of works. This means that you dont get to heaven based on your good or bad deeds in this life. That no one may boast means that you cant take credit for it. You cant get to the pearly gates and say: Peter, let me in because Ive been a good person!

Note: This is not in the Bible. Peter is not at a pearly gate waiting for you. Even if he happens to be, the point is, you wont be able to take credit for getting into heaven by your good deeds.
