It Can Do Worlds Of Good For Your Spiritual Growth

Reading through God’s Word in a mere 90 days can be excellent for spiritual growth. Since it requires such a commitment of time, you’re forced to do away with several non-essentials in order to make time for it. I found that things like scrolling through social media, watching television, and aimlessly wandering around the house , all had to go if I were going to reach my goal.

More than that, spending this kind of daily time reading though Scripture will naturally strengthen your understanding of God’s commandments, encourage you to more fully imitate Christ, and do away with sinful behavior.

Joshuas Farewell To The Leaders

23 After a long time had passed and the Lord had given Israel rest from all their enemies around them, Joshua, by then a very old man,2 summoned all Israeltheir elders, leaders, judges and officialsand said to them: I am very old.3 You yourselves have seen everything the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake it was the Lord your God who fought for you.4 Remember how I have allotted as an inheritance for your tribes all the land of the nations that remainthe nations I conqueredbetween the Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea in the west.5 The Lord your God himself will push them out for your sake. He will drive them out before you, and you will take possession of their land, as the Lord your God promised you.

6 Be very strong be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left.7 Do not associate with these nations that remain among you do not invoke the names of their gods or swear by them. You must not serve them or bow down to them.8 But you are to hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have until now.

9 The Lord has driven out before you great and powerful nations to this day no one has been able to withstand you.10 One of you routs a thousand, because the Lord your God fights for you, just as he promised.11 So be very careful to love the Lord your God.

I Saw Clearly That Theres Vast Differences Between The Various Genres But The Finest Gold Was The Epistles

I already knew that there were various genres in the Bible, but reading them so quickly and side by side, I started to appreciate their differences. But I say the finest gold was the epistles because it was so thrilling when I finally arrived at the epistles. A day of twelve epistle pages took me longer to read than any other genre due to its density, but they were the clearest, most systematic and straightforward of all the genres. Yes, some things in them can be confusing . But after reading the whole history of Israel and their prophets, about the arrival of the Messiah, and about the start of the early church, it was like gold-mining when I finally arrived at the explanation-saturated epistles.

Who Is The Bible In 90

St Paul

I believe this plan is best suited for more mature believers. Because the first 69 days of this challenge are spent exclusively in the Old Testament, I think its best to have a solid understanding of the New Testament books in the Bible before reading it cover to cover.

If youre new to the Christian faith, Ill have some new resources and reading plans coming soon. Make sure youre signed up on my email list so you can be the first to know when I come out with new stuff!

Invest In The Tools You Need

Did you know that there is such a thing as a 90-Day Bible? I didn’t! When I first learned that one existed, I hesitated purchasing it. After all, I didn’t need another Bible, and it felt a little silly buying one when I could simply print out a 90-day plan and follow along in my regular Bible.

But the more I thought about it, the more I became convinced that a 90-Day Bible would be key to my success. I tend to get bogged down in my study Bible’s footnotes and publisher’s snippets. Plus, since the pages of my regular Bible aren’t uniform , I was concerned about getting lost once I got a few days into my reading plan.

So, I bought the 90-Day Bible. It was well worth it, and I would encourage you to consider getting your own copy if you’re serious about reading through the Bible in 90 days. This particular printing makes it fairly easy to complete your 90-day reading goal by breaking things down into just 12 pages a day . It also provides some helpful hints for finishing in the time allotted, gives you a check list of each day’s reading, and has a notes section in the back for writing down spiritual truths you glean as you go.

The only caveat is that, as far as I am aware, it is only available in the NIV . My personal preference is for NKJV , and I have many friends who feel that either the KJV or NASB are the best translations. If translation is an issue for you, you may prefer a print-out reference like this one to use with your favorite Bible.

It This Really Doable

Yes. It seems more implausible than it really is. Once you start youll see that this is a doable goal.

Audio Bibles are a great way to get the reading in, even if you arent able to sit and read.

Im a terribly slow reader. To tackle the 90 day chronological Bible reading plan I need to split the texts up if Im reading. Cumulatively it takes me 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. If I listen, it takes about 20-30 minutes. Ill typically listen to the texts multiple times in one day. Its more doable than you think.

All in all, its a small time commitment. Carve out the time for something this vital. Your heart will change. Your understanding of who God really is will be enhanced.

Read On Your Phone And/or Throughout The Day If You Want

Personally, I did not do it this way. I preferred to set aside an hour or two and read from my paper Bible. But the advantage of having it on your phone is you have it wherever you go. Give up social media for a month, and every time you go to open it up on your phone, open up your Bible app instead. This could get disjointed if you are reading throughout the day, but then again it could have its advantages too.

Towns For The Levites

Read the Bible in 90 Days!

21 Now the family heads of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the other tribal families of Israel2 at Shiloh in Canaan and said to them, The Lord commanded through Moses that you give us towns to live in, with pasturelands for our livestock.3 So, as the Lord had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance:

4 The first lot came out for the Kohathites, according to their clans. The Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.5 The rest of Kohaths descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan and half of Manasseh.

6 The descendants of Gershon were allotted thirteen towns from the clans of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

7 The descendants of Merari, according to their clans, received twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.

8 So the Israelites allotted to the Levites these towns and their pasturelands, as the Lord had commanded through Moses.

9 From the tribes of Judah and Simeon they allotted the following towns by name10 :

11 They gave them Kiriath Arba ), with its surrounding pastureland, in the hill country of Judah. 12 But the fields and villages around the city they had given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.

27 The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given:

It Reveals The Larger Themes Throughout The Bible

Although a 90-day reading plan might eclipse some of the smaller Biblical themes, the flip side is that it magnifies the larger themes of grace, redemption, and forgiveness in ways that a long journey through Scripture might not.

Having just read Genesis weeks before visiting Revelation is simply amazing. To see Christ’s death, resurrection, and triumph over sin predicted at the beginning of the Bible and then following up shortly with His completion of it all is unlike anything else I’ve experienced in my Christian walk.

It Reminds You Of The Big Picture + Gods Plan All Along

Something about reading the Bible this quickly allows you to make connections between books and people, realizing that everything was a part of Gods plan the whole time. Not to mention I read the book of Matthew in one day, allowing me to see all of Jesus ministry in just one day!

Convinced that you should do it yet?

Utilize An Audio Bible

I found that sometimes it was hard to pronounce the genealogies or I just couldnt focus on the words without getting distracted, so the audio Bible became my best friend during the 90-day challenge. There are a number of Bible study apps that offer an audio feature but my favorite are Dwell, YouVersion or ReadScripture.

Dont feel guilty for using an audio Bible to get through, but whenever possible try to listen while you read the text rather than just listening only. The less distracted and more focused you are on Gods word, the more God will reveal himself to you.

I Was Able To Notice Clearer Connections Between Books

ANNOUNCEMENT: Join our read the Bible in 90 Days Challenge ...

By using page numbers to start and end rather than chapter numbers, I was reading books back to back. Id often finish a book and then get significantly far into another one all in the same day. Doing it this way, I was able to see more clear connections in the ending of one book and the beginning of another. This was clearly the case for Old Testament historical books, as one book would pick up where the previous left off. But this was also true in the New Testament. One major example I can think of was from the ending of Acts and the beginning of Romans. At the end of Acts, Paul finally makes it to Rome and stays in Rome proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance . Then, in the first paragraph of Romans , he explains the gospel of God concerning Jesus Christ our Lord who was a descendent of David . Now, I realize that Romans was written prior to Paul making it to Rome in Acts. I also realize that the canonical book orders are not inspiredwe even have a different order in our Old Testament than the Jews did in their Hebrew Bible. I get all that. Yet still, I was able to see connections between books like this which helped me further appreciate the unity of the Bible.

Get Readyit Wont Be Easy

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper thanany double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividingsoul and spirit, joints and marrow it judges thethoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Reading the bible is not easy. Not merely reading the words but allowing the words to penetrate you. Allowing the words to show us where we need correction. Allowing the words to minister to our hearts.

Here is where I think the Bible in 90 Days is such a helpful program. You are reading as such a pace that thinking is not usually possible. Unless you decide to read slower.

But I think thats a benefit.

You see, we advise you to read like you read a novel. Take it in. Take it in. Take it in.

The Word is still the Word of God. I have seen peoples live change from reading this program.

I believe we get out of our own way.

No you will not walk away knowing every story.

You will not learn every king.

Heck, you may only remember one story, one person, one miracle.

But.

Is that more than you knew before?

If so, the time and effort are worth it. Because what youll learn is if you read itits in there.

Pray For The Grace To Do It

Dont forget to ask God for the strength, will-power, and ability to do this. Apart from Him, I cant do anything well Im one hot mess most of the time when I try do life in my own strength instead of His.

I wake up asking Him to help me put this over Netflix, the book Im reading, the downtime I often crave after a hectic day, or any other distractions Im prone to prioritize. And I plan to fall asleep thanking Him for answering those prayers.

Have you ever wanted to read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation all the way through?

I know it can sound like a daunting task, but having just completed the 90-day challenge myself, I can tell you that the experience of reading the entire Bible was so worth-while.

Since I was a little girl, I went to church, learned Bible stories, and completed numerous Bible studies, but I realized that I had never read the entire Bible cover-to-cover for myself.

At first, I felt a little ashamed admitting that I hadnt read the entire book that I base my faith and life upon, but I know Im not alone.

According to a recent study, 87% of American households own a Bible but only 11% have read it all the way through.

When I polled my own followers, 100% of my audience said they have not read the entire Bible, but 90% said they wanted to.

Listen, I get it life is busy and the Bible is a very big, complex book, but we can do better. Its time we start discovering Gods word for ourselves rather than depending on someone else to spoon-feed His word to us.

If youre ready to take on the Bible in 90-Days Challenge, Im here to encourage, challenge, equip and support you.

Find An Accountability Partner

My mom graciously agreed to read along with me. Although we didn’t check in every single day, just knowing that she would be asking me whether or not I was staying on top of my reading was super motivating and encouraging. Also, we could chat about the things that we noticed as we read. It was wonderful having a support person to cheer me on, and I don’t think I would have been able to finish were it not for my mom’s keeping me accountable.

If you want to try your own 90-day reading plan, find someone – a spouse, friend, child, mentor – who is willing to read along with you.
