I Am In The Bible

I Am The Good Shepherd

Biblical I Am Affirmations [Christian Sleep Meditation]

With this statement, Jesus described His sacrificial love for His people. He was letting the Israelites know that, unlike a hired man who will run and leave a flock unprotected in order to save his own life when the wolf threatens the sheep, He will not abandon His sheep, but will keep watch over His people. In John 10:15-16, Jesus said I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice, and there will be one flock and one shepherd. This was a prophetic utterance about His coming sacrificial death to save both the Jews and Gentiles who would believe in His name. In Psalm 23, David referred to the Lord God as his shepherd, and in this passage, Jesus refers to Himself as the ultimate Good Shepherd who was about to give His life for His sheep and fulfill His Fathers plan of salvation for all people.

Present With His People

In biblical Hebrew, the being verb hayah conveys not just existence but manifest existence. It indicates the appearance, presence, or standing of a thing. To state, There was light is to announce the manifestation, not just the existence, of light. To say, The Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest is to announce the appearance of a storm as a result of Gods wind.

The Hebrew being verb hayah/ehyeh, Sigmund Mowinckel explains, is not the abstract Greek , the mere existence per se. To the Hebrew to be does not just mean to exist . . ., but to be active, to express oneself in active being.Sigmund Mowinckel, The Name of the God of Moses, HUCA 32 , 127. Note that pre-classical Greek also used being verbs with a more concrete meaning. See The Early History of the Verb to Be in Eric A. Havelock, The Greek Concept of Justice: From Its Shadow in Homer to Its Substance in Plato , 23348.

God has many titles in Scripture, such as Father, Almighty, King, and Savior. Each of his titles reveals another of his many roles or attributes. But Yahweh is more than a title. Its meaning is clearly important for our understanding of the God of the Bible. It shows us not simply that God exists but also that he is near to his people in love.

Human Reasoning Its Results Observation

In Audit of Humankind, The Explanation discussed How Humans Reason at length. There are four main areas we shall elaborate on here. In all of them, humankind has set itself up as I AM. The Serpent has done its job exceedingly well.

Romans 1:20-22

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse:

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

What an indictment of humankind. Instead of seeing the things that are made, the Creation, as coming from an OUTSIDE and ABOVE origin, we have become vain in OUR OWN imaginations. Thats humankinds OBSERVATIONS. Thats the INWARD approach. Weve come up with a myriad of theories that eliminate God from Creation and replaced Him with nothing produced something. Scholars believe consciousness and mind is a by-product of randomness. Incredible!

Where Else Is The Name I Am In The Bible

The Tetragrammaton appears over six-thousand times in the Bible, even in modern English translations. The Hebrew scribes were very careful to neither say aloud, nor fully spell out the holy and sacred name of God, Yahweh. Instead they would put it in all capital letters, and say Adonai. They put the vowels of Adonai into the consonants of Yaweh to get YAHOWAH, which English Christians translated into Jehovah. Today, any time a translator wants to acknowledge where YHWH is in the original Hebrew text, they use the word LORD in all capital letters.

Some examples include:

Isaiah 8:1 Then the LORD said to me, Take a large tablet and write on it in common characters

Psalm 149:1 Praise the LORD! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly!

Proverbs 21:3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Perhaps the most significant use of the name I AM in the Bible comes from Jesus Christ. The religious leaders would often try to catch Jesus in heresy, in a lie, or blaspheming so they could be rid of him. In John 8, the Jewish people challenged his authority, and they brought up Abraham. Jesus tells them how glad Abraham is to see the day of the Lord. When asked by the crowd how He speaks as if He knows Abraham, Jesus said to them, Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was, I am .

I Am The Resurrection And The Life

The I

Jesus spoke this crowning statement of hope to His grieving friend, Martha, after her brother, Lazarus, had died. In the next verse He clarified His statement by saying, And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? . Death brought a sense of despair, hopelessness, and finality until Jesus spoke those glorious words, and then demonstrated them by bringing His dead friend back to life. Shortly afterward, Jesus showed the world that He had conquered the grave when He, Himself, rose to life three days after His death for the sins of all who would believe. According to 1 Corinthians 15:55, death no longer holds its sting because Jesus has overcome the grave. All who are in Christ will live forever.

I Am The Light Of The World

Jesus made this statement during the Feast of Tabernacles. At this feast, a huge candelabra was lit in the womens court of the temple. It reminded the Israelites of the pillar of fire that guided their ancestors during the wilderness wanderings. Jesus made this statement just after forgiving, rather than condemning, a woman caught in adultery whom the Pharisees had brought before Jesus in the middle of His teaching.

Jesus was letting them know that in a world darkened by sin, He is holy and He offers the light and guidance to those stumbling in sin. The people knew the Old Testament Scripture For the Lord God is a sun and shield the Lord will give grace and glory . In that instance, Jesus was epitomizing the character of God as a sun , a shield , and grace for the glory of God.

The Vine And The Branches

15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 I am the vine you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit apart from me you can do nothing.6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.8 This is to my Fathers glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

What Do I Mean By Kingdom Minded

A kingdom-minded ministry is one whose leaders care more about what God is doing everywhere than what God is doing right here. Kingdom-minded leaders know its not just about their own ministry. A kingdom-minded ministry is generous and eager to partner with others to get more done for the glory of God.

Its hard to have it without desiring that other ministries succeed. When you have it, you know that it doesnt belong to you. It belongs to God. He gives it. And since it is his and not yours, youre grateful to have it and willing to share it.

Those who have it know it is not about them. It is not about their personal names. It is not about North Point, Elevation Church, Transformation Church, Gateway Church, Wesley United Methodist, First Baptist, First Presbyterian, First Christian, Calvary Chapel, Hope City, Redeemer Covenant, Fresh Life, Lord of Life Lutheran, Holy Ghost Temple of Righteous Praise, or whatever your church is called. It is not about

  • your student ministry
  • your new logo or website
  • And it is certainly not about your name

It is about Jesus. Theres no other name under heaven by which we can be saved, and so no other name really matters. Its all about him.

I learned this the hard way. There was one particular year in our church when we definitely didnt have it. This happened to be the year our church didnt grow. I think we didnt grow because we had lost focusI had lost focusand it blurred, faded, and disappeared.

My honest answer was no.

I Am The Door Of The Sheep

This statement of Jesus’ was made during a discourse with Israels religious readers in which Jesus in so many words declared them to be unfit shepherds of the nation. According to the Nelson Study Bible, Shepherds guided their flocks into stone enclosures each night to protect them. These structures had no doors. The shepherd would sit or lie in the opening to prevent predators from attacking. Thus Jesus was describing His care and constant devotion to those who are His. This statement also reinforces what He said in John 14:6 about being the only way to come to the Father. The only way to get into Gods sheepfold or family or dwelling is to go through Jesus the door or entryway.

What Are The I Am Statements Of Jesus

the great i am

Jesus made these seven resounding statements throughout the Gospel of John:

1. I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst . Jesus also reiterated this statement in John 6:41, 48, and 51.

2. I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life .

3. I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture .

4. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheepI am the good shepherd and I know my sheep, and am known by My own. .

5. I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live .

6. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me .

7. I am the true vine and My Father is the vinedresser I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit for without Me you can do nothing .

What Is the Significance of Each I Am Statement in the Bible?

Jesus I am statements were particularly significant to the Jewish listeners within the context of when he said them or where He said them. He was continually pointing their eyes toward Himself as God in light of the Old Testament Scriptures that prophesied His coming.

Meaning Of The Name I Am In The Bible

Jesus referred to himself as I AM seven times in the Book of John. In Greek literary means I AM,It is I, or I Exist. Although a verb, it is used not with the role of a verb but the role of a name.

John 8:57-58The people said, You arent even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham? Jesus answered, I tell you the truth before Abraham was even born, I Am!

Breaking Down The Key Parts Of 2 Corinthians 1: 10

#1: That is why, for Christs sake, I delight In the previous verse, God told Paul that Gods strength is made perfect in weakness . So because of this, Paul took pleasure. The King James Version translates delight as pleasure.

#2: in weaknesses The King James Version translates weaknesses as infirmities, and many scholars think this refers to diseases, or at least to the thorn in the flesh of Paul . We do not know what this thorn was for Paul, but many speculate it was some sort of physical disability or sickness, in particular affecting his eyes. One example of Paul having trouble with his eyes is in Acts 23:3-5 when he did not recognize a high priest who was sitting in front of him. Due to Paul having previously been a Pharisee, he would have been able to recognize the high priest easily with the priests special garments if his vision would have been decent.

#3: in insults This refers to contempt, mockery, and rejection.

#4: in hardships This refers to the lack of the physical basics for life. The King James Version translates hardships as necessities. It refers to things like shelter, food, water, and clothing.

#5: in persecutions Paul was stoned and left for dead in Lystra , beaten in Philippi , almost killed him in Ephesus , imprisoned in Caesarea, and killed in Rome .

#6: in difficulties. This refers to various distressing situations, both spiritually and physically.

The World Hates The Disciples

18 If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.20 Remember what I told you: A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin but now they have no excuse for their sin.23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well.24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father.25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: They hated me without reason.
