Chapel Of The Invention Of The Holy Cross

ISRAEL THE CHURCH OF JESUS
  • Chapel of the Invention of the Cross of the Holy Cross) another set of 22 stairs from the Chapel of Saint Helena leads down to the Roman Catholic Chapel of the Invention of the Holy Cross, believed to be the place where the True Cross was found.

An Ottoman decree of 1757 helped establish a status quo upholding the state of affairs for various Holy Land sites. The status quo was upheld in Sultan Abdülmecid I‘s firman of 1852/3, which pinned down the now-permanent statutes of property and the regulations concerning the roles of the different denominations and other custodians.

The primary custodians are the Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian Apostolic churches. The Greek Orthodox act through the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate as well as through the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre. Roman Catholics act through the FranciscanCustody of the Holy Land. In the 19th century, the Coptic Orthodox, the Ethiopian Orthodox and the Syriac Orthodox also acquired lesser responsibilities, which include shrines and other structures in and around the building.

On Palm Sunday, in April 2008, a brawl broke out when a Greek monk was ejected from the building by a rival faction. Police were called to the scene but were also attacked by the enraged brawlers. On Sunday, 9 November 2008, a clash erupted between Armenian and Greek monks during celebrations for the Feast of the Cross.

Old Testament Promises Of Israels Salvation Are Fulfilled By Israel

To see this, well begin with Pauls larger argument in Romans 911, before turning to three specific places where he draws a straight line between Old Testament referents and their New Testament fulfillment. And well conclude by looking at one place where, we might say, Paul bends the rules.

Second, Paul draws a pretty straight line between Old Testament promises and their New Testament fulfillment in at least three places in these chapters.

  • Paul says that the Old Testament promises about Gods preservation of a Jewish remnant apply to Jewish Christians. God promised to preserve a Jewish remnant , especially when messiah came and caused the stumbling of so many in Israel . And, Paul says, this is precisely what God has done: there is a remnant chosen by grace , one that obtain the righteousness that is by faith . To prove this, Paul doesnt point to Gentile Christians. Rather he points to himself, an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin and to many more Israelites beside . In short, the referents of the Old Testaments remnant-promises are people self-described as Israelites and descendants of Abraham, people, in fact, from specific tribes within Israel, which is to say, the referent of the Old Testaments remnant-promises hasnt changed.

    • Chapel of St Vartan Mamikonian on the north side of the Chapel of Saint Helena is an ornate wrought iron door, beyond which a raised artificial platform affords views of the quarry, and which leads to the Chapel of Saint Vartan. The latter chapel contains archaeological remains from Hadrian’s temple and Constantine’s basilica. These areas are open only on request.

To Participate In The Gathering: A Commitment By Covenant

Here on earth, missionary work is crucial to the gathering of Israel. The gospel was to be taken first to the âlost sheep of the house of Israel.â37 Consequently, servants of the Lord have gone forth proclaiming the Restoration. In many nations our missionaries have searched for those of scattered Israel they have hunted for them âout of the holes of the rocksâ and they have fished for them as in ancient days.38

Spiritual security will always depend upon how one lives, not where one lives. Saints in every land have equal claim upon the blessings of the Lord.

This work of Almighty God is true. He lives. Jesus is the Christ. This is His Church, restored to accomplish its divine destiny, including the promised gathering of Israel. President Gordon B. Hinckley is Godâs prophet today. I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

West of the Aedicule, to the rear of the Rotunda, is the Syriac Chapel with the Tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, located in a Constantinian apse and containing an opening to an ancient Jewish rock-cut tomb. This chapel is where the Syriac Orthodox celebrate their Liturgy on Sundays.

The Syriac Orthodox Chapel of Saint Joseph of Arimathea and Saint Nicodemus. On Sundays and feast days it is furnished for the celebration of Mass. It is accessed from the Rotunda, by a door west of the Aedicule.

    First-century tomb

On the far side of the chapel is the low entrance to an almost complete first-century Jewish tomb, initially holding six kokh-type funeral shafts radiating from a central chamber, two of which are still exposed. Although this space was discovered relatively recently and contains no identifying marks, some believe that Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus were buried here.Since Jews always buried their dead outside the city, the presence of this tomb seems to prove that the Holy Sepulchre site was outside the city walls at the time of the crucifixion.

The Gathering Of Israelan Integral Part Of The Restoration Of All Things

As prophesied by Peter and Paul, all things were to be restored in this dispensation. Therefore, there must come, as part of that restoration, the long-awaited gathering of scattered Israel.15 It is a necessary prelude to the Second Coming of the Lord.16

This doctrine of the gathering is one of the important teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Lord has declared: âI give unto you a sign ⦠that I shall gather in, from their long dispersion, my people, O house of Israel, and shall establish again among them my Zion.â17 The coming forth of the Book of Mormon is a sign to the entire world that the Lord has commenced to gather Israel and fulfill covenants He made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.18 We not only teach this doctrine, but we participate in it. We do so as we help to gather the elect of the Lord on both sides of the veil.

The Book of Mormon is central to this work. It declares the doctrine of the gathering.19 It causes people to learn about Jesus Christ, to believe His gospel, and to join His Church. In fact, if there were no Book of Mormon, the promised gathering of Israel would not occur.20

    The Facts Of The Case:

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been present in Israel for a long time. Because oftheir belief that Jews would return to their land as a “sign ofthe time” of the second coming, the Mormon missionary Orson Hydewas sent to Jerusalem by Joseph Smith, the founder of the Churchin 1841, only ten years after the founding of the Church. Hyderecited a “Zionist prayer” and dedicated the land to the Jews fromatop the Mount of Olives.

Today, there is a Latter Day Saints Church in Jerusalem whichholds services on Saturdays, and the modern Brigham YoungUniversity program has been functioning in Israel forseventeen years, operating out of East Jerusalem and Kibbutz RamatRachel on the southwest border of city. Over 1850 students haveparticipated in this eight-month program since 1977.

A number of years ago, BYU decided to build a permanent home forthe program and brought their request before Jerusalem Mayor TeddyKollek. The original request had been for a site on the westernside of the city, between the King David Hotel and Hebrew UnionCollege. The Mayor decided that the eastern side of the city wouldbe a better location, probably in the wake of ultra-Orthodoxextremist attacks on Christian institutions in the western part ofthe city, including the burning down of the Baptist Church inRehavia.

    The Hope Of Israel Worldwide

Ministry at The Hope of Israel worldwide

As Christians, we believe that Jesus is alive and present with us through the Holy Spirit. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He comes to live within us and transforms us from the inside out .

One way that we can let Jesus live His life in us is by surrendering our lives to Him and seeking to follow His commands and example. In Matthew 16:24, Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” This means that we must be willing to put aside our own desires and plans and instead seek to follow Jesus and obey His will for our lives.

Another way we can let Jesus live His life in us is by spending time with Him in prayer, reading the Bible, and participating in fellowship with other believers. When we make an effort to cultivate our relationship with Jesus, we open ourselves up to His influence and allow His love and grace to shape our thoughts and actions.

It’s also important to remember that letting Jesus live His life in us is not about achieving perfection or earning God’s love. Instead, it’s about surrendering ourselves to Him and trusting in His power to transform us and work through us. As we seek to follow Jesus and allow Him to live His life in us, we can trust that He will be with us every step of the way, guiding us and giving us the strength and grace we need.

Who We Are And Why We Are Here

    Israel, Israel, God Is Calling

There is a reason for our problems and it is found in the pages of the Bible, our true history. The solution to our problems is in the bible also, but before you get out of trouble, you must first know why youre in trouble. The questions we all should ask are, what is our true nationality and why have all these terrible things happened to us? We are the Israelites of the bible, which are black people and we are being punished because our ancestors failed to obey the commandments of God. But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statues which I command thee this day that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee .

Many claim that it does not matter who the Israelites are since Jesus came and died but Jesus himself said, salvation is of the Jews! Even after the death and resurrection of Jesus, the apostle Paul asked the question,What advantage then hath the Jew? He knew the answer and said, much every way It does matter who the Israelites are because the Lord had the prophet tell us that Israel is the only people he has known, therefore he is punishing us for our sins. The Lord also knew that others would claim our land and heritage and he had the Apostle John write, I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not. In short, all the prophets, apostles and Jesus himself were Israelites, and they all were black.

Old Testament Promises Of Israels Salvation Are Fulfilled By Israel In The Church

While Israel, by and large, fulfills Gods Old Testament promises of Israels salvation, thats not all Romans 911 says about the relationship between Israel and the church. It also tells us that the Israel who fulfills these promises fulfills them not outside of but inside of the church. Every Jewish Christian, whether part of the remnant or among those grafted back in, is part of the Roman church. Theyre part of those in Rome and elsewhere who are loved by God and called to be his holy people . Theyre Christians . Romans, in fact, ends talking about a church that meets in the home of Jewish Christians .

Whats more, Paul says that this era of salvationof Jewish and Gentile beliefconcludes with the resurrection , which is to say, with the Parousia . What this means is that all the inclusion and acceptance and the com in,all the salvation promised in the Old Testamenttakes place before Jesus returns. In other words, it takes place now and in the church.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a church in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.According to traditions dating back to the 4th century, it contains two sites considered holy in Christianity: the site where Jesus was crucified, at a place known as Calvary or Golgotha, and Jesus’s empty tomb, which is where he was buried and resurrected. Each time the church was rebuilt, some of the antiquities from the preceding structure were used in the newer renovation. The tomb itself is enclosed by a 19th-century shrine called the Aedicule. The Status Quo, an understanding between religious communities dating to 1757, applies to the site.

Within the church proper are the last four stations of the Cross of the Via Dolorosa, representing the final episodes of the Passion of Jesus. The church has been a major Christian pilgrimage destination since its creation in the 4th century, as the traditional site of the resurrection of Christ, thus its original Greek name, Church of the Anastasis .

You came to me at the time I was going to take my own life because of my job. Youre anointed person and I pray for you, family and ministry because youre a blessing to all of us. • Hi Geoffrey and staff, Today is my one year anniversary that I got saved on your podcast! I am now a KJB only, I threw away my other two versions I had. I was shocked to learn of the differences and how the new versions twist the words of God, and dilute the message at best. Thank you for the fabulous bible education and fire for the Lord. I donate on your website throughout the year. Thanks for all that you do. Donna

    The Restoration Of All Things

    Cana, Israel

Thus a complete restoration was required. God the Father and Jesus Christ called upon the Prophet Joseph Smith to be the prophet of this dispensation. All divine powers of previous dispensations were to be restored through him.13 This dispensation of the fulness of times would not be limited in time or in location. It would not end in apostasy, and it would fill the world.14

    Jordanian And Israeli Periods

In 1948, Jerusalem was divided between Israel and Jordan and the Old City with the church were made part of Jordan. In 1967, Israeli forces captured East Jerusalem in the Six Day War, and that area has remained under Israeli control ever since. Under Israeli rule, legal arrangements relating to the churches of East Jerusalem were maintained in coordination with the Jordanian government. The dome at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was restored again in 199497 as part of extensive modern renovations that have been ongoing since 1959. During the 197078 restoration works and excavations inside the building, and under the nearby Muristan bazaar, it was found that the area was originally a quarry, from which white melekelimestone was struck.

    Chapel of St. Vartan

East of the Chapel of Saint Helena, the excavators discovered a void containing a 2nd-century drawing of a Roman pilgrim ship, two low walls supporting the platform of Hadrian’s 2nd-century temple, and a higher 4th-century wall built to support Constantine’s basilica. After the excavations of the early 1970s, the Armenian authorities converted this archaeological space into the Chapel of Saint Vartan, and created an artificial walkway over the quarry on the north of the chapel, so that the new chapel could be accessed from the Chapel of Saint Helena.
