Ending the year with funds allowing it to be a blessing to others, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, under the leadership of Pastor Clay Smith, gave Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary a gift of $100,000, seminary officials announced today.

We are incredibly grateful to God for the wonderful generosity of the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, said David S. Dockery, interim president of Southwestern Seminary. Their initiative in seeking ways that they could be helpful during this season at Southwestern has been a source of great encouragement to the entire Southwestern community.

Dockery added the Fort Worth institution expresses our deep appreciation to Pastor Clay Smith and the faithful people of God at Johnson Ferry who have offered this timely support for Southwestern students, staff, and faculty.

Smith, who is also a Doctor of Philosophy in preaching student at Southwestern, said God and the members of Johnson Ferry have been very generous and the church has had a really strong year in giving.

We ended the year in a position where we could use some funds to be a blessing to others, Smith said. Given the challenges that Southwestern is currently facing, we wanted to be a part of the solution. So, with our elders’ support, we were thrilled to give the gift of $100,000 to help aid in the transition and to invest in the seminarys future.

Wendy ParkerJohnson Ferry Baptist Church senior pastor Rev. Clay Smith does the honors at the formal opening of Provision Cafe.

The dreary weather was ideal for what Provision Cafe was serving up to celebrate its ribbon-cutting on Tuesday.

Samplings of grilled cheese, tomato soup, hummus and warm pita bread and charcuterie items made their way around the new coffee shop and eatery at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.

Its an expanded version of a cafe that opened up two years ago, primarily for church members. The Cobb Chamber of Commerce also was on hand for the official ribbon-cutting, with Rev. Clay Smith, Johnson Ferry Baptists senior pastor, doing the honors.

With a full breakfast and lunch menu six days a weekas well as Sunday morningsProvision Cafe is aimed at inviting the larger East Cobb community to enjoy coffee, food and informal gatherings with friends and family.

We want to get outside our building, Shane Bruce, the churchs executive director for operations. Being a positive influence on this community is important.

We want to help people find truth and belonging over a cup of coffee. But coffee is a lot more than a beverage. Its something to have a conversation over.

The cafe is located near the existing bookstore and includes booths, tall tables, and working pods with access to plugs to suit remote working needs. There is also a walking track on the second floor.

Other beverages include lattes, espresso, teas, smoothies and hot chocolate.
