Messiah: A leader or savior of a particular group or cause.

Savior: A person who saves someone or something from danger and who’s regarded with the veneration of a religious figure.

What Are The Names Of Jesus That Reveal We Need Him Every Day

Other names of Jesus associate Him with everyday objects in our world. These names remind us that He is with us and that we need Him daily. Some of these names are:

Bread of Life. Just as God provided manna or bread from heaven for the Israelites in the wilderness, so He sent Jesus from heaven as the Bread of Life, as Jesus explained in John 6:35. At the last supper, Jesus told the disciples that the bread of communion symbolized His body that would be given for us. We think of Jesus whenever we hunger and ask God to provide our daily bread.

Light of the World. In John 8:12, Jesus told those listening that He is the worlds light. Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life . Without a relationship with Jesus, we walk in darkness, but in relationship with Him, we can clearly see how we are to follow.

The Door. Jesus is the entrance we pass through into eternal life. He is the only entrance. All other ways lead to eternal separation from God. John 10:9 records Jesus saying, I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture .

Man of Sorrow. When we face hardship, loss, or grief, its comforting to remember that Jesus was a man of sorrow. Isaiah 53:3 tells us this and adds that He was acquainted with grief.

What Does The Bible Say About Using The Lords Name In Vain

The Bible is clear that using the Lords name in vain is a serious offense. In the Old Testament, God commanded Moses to prohibit the use of His name in vain, saying You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. .

And in the New Testament, Paul echoes this commandment, saying do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. . Using the Lords name in vain is more than just swearing or using profanity. The Goodness of God says that man was made in the likeness of God.

Its using His name in a way that is not honoring or respectful. Its taking His name in vain when we use it as a curse word or as a way to express anger or frustration. Its taking His name in vain when we use it flippantly or without thought. Let us be careful to always use the Lords name with reverence and respect.

Names And Titles Of Jesus In The New Testament

Name of Christ Philippians 2:10Church of the Gesù

Two names and a variety of titles are used to refer to Jesus in the New Testament. In Christianity, the two names Jesus and Emmanuel that refer to Jesus in the New Testament have salvific attributes. After the crucifixion of Jesus the early Church did not simply repeat his messages, but focused on him, proclaimed him, and tried to understand and explain his message. One element of the process of understanding and proclaiming Jesus was the attribution of titles to him. Some of the titles that were gradually used in the early Church and then appeared in the New Testament were adopted from the Jewish context of the age, while others were selected to refer to, and underscore the message, mission and teachings of Jesus. In time, some of these titles gathered significant Christological significance.

Christians have attached theological significance to the Holy Name of Jesus. The use of the name of Jesus in petitions is stressed in John 16:23 when Jesus states: “If you ask the Father anything in my name he will give it you.” There is widespread belief among Christians that the name Jesus is not merely a sequence of identifying symbols but includes intrinsic divine power.

The Meaning Of Jesus Name As Savior

The Power of Jesus Names | Bible Study with Tony Evans

As stated above, Jesus means savior. This is His special role. He saves his people from the guilt of sin, by cleansing them in His own atoning blood. He saves them from the dominion of sin by putting in their hearts the sanctifying Spirit. He saves them from the presence of sin, when He takes them out of this world to rest with Him. He will save them from all the consequences of sin, when He shall give them a glorious body at the last day.

Those seeking salvation may draw near to the Father with boldness and have access with confidence through Christ. It is His role and His delight to show mercy. “For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him,” .

Jesus is a name, which is especially sweet and precious to believers. It has often done them good. It has given them what money cannot buy that is, inward peace. It has eased their wearied consciences and given rest to their heavy hearts. The Song of Solomon describes the experience of many, when it says, “Your name is oil poured forth” . Happy is the person who trusts not merely in vague notions of God’s mercy and goodness, but in “Jesus.”

What Was Jesus Real Name

Wikimedia CommonsThe Greek transliteration of Jesus real name, Isous, and the late Biblical Hebrew version Yeshua.

Of course, neither English nor Spanish were around in their modern form when the real Jesus was actually alive, or for that matter, when the New Testament was written.

Jesus and his followers were all Jewish and so they had Hebrew names although they would likely have spoken Aramaic. The J sound used to pronounce Jesus name in English does not exist in Hebrew or Aramaic, which is strong evidence that Jesus was called something different by his contemporaries.

Most scholars, therefore, believe that the Christian Messiahs name was actually Yeshua, a fairly common Jewish name around the time Jesus was alive. Archaeologists have actually found the name carved into 71 burial caves in Israel, dating from the time the historical Jesus would have been alive. This leads to the question of why, if there were evidently so many men named Yeshua running around at the time, the name Jesus was used for the Messiah.

King Of Kings And Lord Of Lords The Name Which Is Above Every Name

Names of Jesus throughout the Bible

Jesus Christ is the conqueror the One who overcame sin and death. He is the One who humbled Himself the most, and therefore is now exalted above every name. Because He glorified His Father with His life, He is now sitting at the right hand of God to Gods glory! His triumph is eternal His glory is everlasting. He has been given all authority on heaven and on earth and with this power He is mighty to save us. He shall reign forever and ever!

Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:15-16.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11.
