Elements Of A Good Testimony

Muslim converts to Christianity after reading this Bible Verse…. Abdu Murray’s Testimony

As you create and practice the story of Jesus work in your life, keep these four important elements in mind:

CONCRETENESS: Give the audience details they can relate to. Describe experiences, places and persons accurately and unambiguously, but dont obsess over details. Include an identifiable and specific turning point , even if it is just one of many turning points. Your testimony should come across as real and approachable.

ACCESSIBILITY: Describe experiences in such a way that the audience can relate and understand. Choose language free of religious jargon and dense terminology that could separate you from the audience, like sin, tabernacle or Eucharistic adoration. If you do need to use churchy words, take a moment to explain them. Also, ask yourself, What parts of my story would be especially meaningful to this person? You will likely emphasize different aspects of your testimony when you are talking to an atheist versus a lukewarm Christian.

SIMPLICITY: Include a plot or thread that is clear and easy to follow, without confusing tangents or elaborate details. Place Jesus Christ at the center of your testimony. He is its hinge. And be sure to keep it short, usually 3 5 minutes or less. Testimonies that are longer than five minutes usually get into too many details and dont have that simple focus for people to follow. A long, meandering testimony loses people and may even turn them off.

The Power Of A Strong Testimony

Elder Richard G. Scott

Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Your personal security and happiness depend upon the strength of your testimony, for it will guide your actions in times of trial or uncertainty.

In this uncertain world, there are some things that never change: the perfect love of our Heavenly Father for each of us the assurance that He is there and will always hear us the existence of absolute, unchanging truths the fact that there is a plan of happiness the assurance that success in life is attained through faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to His teachings because of the redemptive power of His Atonement the certainty of life after death the reality that our condition there is set by how we live here. Whether one does or does not accept these truths does not alter their reality. They are the fundamental building blocks of a living testimony. A strong testimony is the unshakable foundation of a secure, meaningful life where peace, confidence, happiness, and love can flourish. It is anchored in a conviction that an all-knowing God is in command of His work. He will not fail. He will keep His promises.

A strong testimony is the sustaining power of a successful life. It is centered in an understanding of the divine attributes of God our Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. It is secured by a willing reliance upon Them. A powerful testimony is grounded in the personal assurance that the Holy Ghost can guide and inspire our daily acts for good.

Notes

We Should Share Our Testimonies Because God Doesnt Want Us To Forget

Our struggles oftentimes blind us to the good parts of our lives. However, Ive begun to take a proactive approach to notice the signs and hints and reminders God utilizes to encourage us.

Lets take the number 8 as an example. Once I knew what the number 8 stood for, I began to really take notice I was receiving messages about something new. I was receiving donations with the number 8 in it. And the craziest instance out of them all: while competing as a finalist in a national pageant last year, my on-stage question was numbered 8.

I remember crumpling the tiny scrap paper in my fist and reciting over and over again, new beginnings, new beginnings, new beginnings.

In the book of Exodus, God also seeks to demonstrate to His people that He will always have more for them, too. Though the Israelites werent to keep the manna overnight unless it was the Sabbath, God directed them to collect some in a vase in the ark. It would serve as a testimony of His divine provision for generations to come .

God warned them, do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. He also instructed them to pass them on to their children and grandchildren. .

Same goes for us!

The sure way to remember our testimonies is to express it is by telling someone and also, writing it down!

Six Reasons Why You Should Testify Of Gods Goodness

Going through life, we sometimes face many challenges, trials, and just really difficult situations that seem like they wont go away. We sometimes desire certain things and we pray and ask God to grant these things to us. When God hears us and delivers us from those difficult situations or grant those things wed been wishing and praying for, telling someone about it and testifying of Gods goodness and faithfulness could be of more importance than we sometimes think. I remember listening to or reading certain testimonies of some awesome things God did for some people and just felt my spirit stir up within me and I got the if-God-did-it-for-them, He-can-do-it-for-me feeling.

You mustnt underestimate the power of testifying of what God has done for you, telling it even just to one person could do much more than you think. Here are 6 reasons why you should testify of Gods goodness:

  • It is an act of thanksgiving and worship to God

The Psalms are filled with prayers and hymns of thanksgiving David gave unto God. He would say things like when I called, you answered me , I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me . Davids testimonies of Gods greatness were great acts of worship to God and David pleased God so much that he is called a man after Gods own heart .

Testifying, is recommending God to someone as a great solution to any problem, and that, is a great act of worship

The Power Of Christian Testimony

Pin by Jessica Shepard on My Testimony

Sharing your testimony with others is a must for all Christians. When giving your testimony you tell how you came to trust in Christ alone as your Lord and Savior. You tell how God opened your eyes on how you were a sinner in need of a Savior.

We are sharing with others different events leading up to our salvation and how God has worked in our lives to bring us to repentance. Testimony is a form of praise and honor to Christ.

We also use it as a way to encourage others. Know every time when youre going through trials and sufferings in life, thats an opportunity to share a testimony of how God worked in your life and made you stronger.

Testimony is not only the things that we say. The way we live our life is a testimony to unbelievers as well.

Warning!

We must be careful not to lie and exaggerate about things. We must be careful as well that we dont brag and glorify ourselves, which is what some people purposely and unknowingly do.

Instead of talking about Jesus they use it as an opportunity to talk about themselves, which is no testimony at all. Im pretty sure you heard people even braggingabout their past life before Christ as if it were cool.

I used to do this and that, I was a killer, I was making 10,000 dollars a month selling cocaine, blah blah blah, and then Jesus. Examine your motives. Its all about Jesus and His glory, dont make it about yourself. Share today and build one another up because your testimony can have a huge impact on someones life.

I will also speak of Your testimonies before kingsAnd shall not be ashamed.

Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he *said to me, Do not do that I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Your Struggles Will Lead To A Celebration

In Acts 13:15 Paul tells us, If you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak.

Its what God expects of us!

When we share our struggles and how God is showing himself Omnipotent through it all, we allow others to join in on our journey to breakthrough. Sharing will get us to a place where we can celebrate together.

In every season, God will reveal the works of His hands all around you. Itll not only encourage others, but itll also encourage yourself. Youll be so shocked by how far youve come.

Youll be more and more conscious about what God is trying to do in your life.

I can assure you itll be something new.

Use Your Suffering As An Opportunity To Give A Testimony

Difficulties in life are never meaningless. When you lose your job out of nowhere, its not meaningless. When you find out that you or someone that you love has cancer, its not meaningless. When your marriage is struggling or youre discouraged because of your singleness, its not meaningless! Romans 8:28 says, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Your unique story is being used for good and Gods glory.

The things that you go through will not only build your character and your relationship with God, but they will also be used by the Lord to help others. When Im going through tough times, I dont want to talk to people who havent been in the fire. Im sorry, I just dont. I want to talk to someone who knows and feels what Im going through. I want to talk to someone who has been in the fire before and has experienced Gods faithfulness in their lives. I want to talk to someone who has wrestled with the living God in prayer!

    37. Luke 21:12-13 But before all these things, people will arrest you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my names sake, in order to give you an opportunity to testify.

    38. Philippians 1:12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.

Unashamed of the gospel that saves.

    The Power Of Testimony

Would anyone like to share a testimony?

I remember sitting in a pew as a little girl on a Sunday night. I was visiting my grandmas church. There were a few believers gathered, and, one by one, different individuals shared stories of what God had done recently or in the past. The pastor also took requests for songs.

Looking back, the word testimony seems frozen in time to that era. Its no longer part of our church culture to take testimonies or song requests, and thats OK. But the concept of sharing what God has done is a powerful tool to remind one another of His ability to come through.

In the middle of a strange passage in Revelation 12 that looks like something straight from Lord of the Rings, John the Revelator is speaking about defeating Satan, the accuser of our brethren. I quote from the King James Version because I think it says it best: They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony .

I have come to recognize that the fiercest attacks we face as believers are the lies of the enemy. He takes any difficult circumstance and does everything in his power to infuse it with doubt, fear, confusion and despair. But this passage gives us such a powerful antidote combination: the blood of the Lamb , and the word of our testimony.

How do we make this part of our lives and our churches? As leaders, there are some simple ways for us to help people build each others faith through testimonies.

    How To Share Your Testimony

    Kristen Wetherell

September is Listener Stories Month, where we encourage you to tell us how youve been impacted by Unlocking the Bible!

When preparing your testimony, ask yourself, How do the details of my story ultimately point to Gods bigger story in the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie explains the importance of this in a powerful way:

There are lots of voices out there today who will say that there is power in simply telling your story. To an extent that is true. But our stories alone have little power to inspire or change lives. What is more important is figuring out how to use our stories to tell Gods story.

    Your Testimony Demonstrates Gods Power

Desperate Faith: The Power of Your Testimony

The term, testimony, derives from the Hebrew word, uwd, which means to do again.

Your testimony shows people that God is in the business of doing it again and again and again. Not just for you, but for anyone else.

Revelation 19:10 tells us, The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

And so, may we focus on preaching the messages God gives us, prophesy in accordance with the Word of God , and realize that prophecy does not stem from our will but the Holy Spirit .

We will truly see how the power of our testimonies has the ability to drive a future miracle in the lives of others.

Why Sharing Your Testimony Is Important

Humans thrive off connection. It is something that needs to survive and thrive in our lives. Trauma and adversity produce a high level of shame and create psychological and emotional barriers that prevent us from being able to connect with other people. Addiction causes a great deal of shame and isolates us from others. Shame at its essence is the feeling of being different from others and not good enough. To alleviate shame we must allow ourselves to open up and share the things we feel shameful about. The antidote to shame is connection and connection is created through vulnerability. The courage to share our testimony, our story, with others despite the fear of judgment or criticism. When we share our truth with others and they respond with empathy, compassion, and/or relate this alleviates shame on a massive level.

Not only does sharing our testimony help us heal, but our story can be the catalyst for healing in others lives. The Emotional identification that happens when you hear another person tell a similar story of suffering helps you know youre not alone. It gives you hope that you too can heal and be brave enough to tell your truth one day. When we hear stories that are like ours we know we are not alone. We no longer feel different and apart from others. We begin to see that we are whole and worthy of belonging.
