Rest Through Faith And Obedience

Bible Verses On Sabbath Rest

Proverbs 1:33

But whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.

Proverbs 17:1

Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife.

Proverbs 19:23

The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied he will not be visited by harm.

Ecclesiastes 5:12

Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep.

Isaiah 26:3

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

Jeremiah 6:16

Thus says the Lord: Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.

Hebrews 4:1-3

Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. For we who have believed enter that rest.

Hebrews 4:11

Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

Revelation 14:13

And I heard a voice from heaven saying, Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Blessed indeed, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!

The Sleep Of A Laboring Man Is Sweet Whether He Eats Little Or Much But The Abundance Of The Rich Will Not Permit Him To Sleep

We see here in Ecclesiastes where having enough to satisfy one’s need is not denounced if all is done in temperance and according to the will of God. If you are not at peace with God, then your riches will never cause you to sleep, and you will be kept awake thinking about what you have done or have not done.

There has to be a delicate balance. Otherwise, we will find ourselves working but not enjoying our rewards because our riches are bound on earth where we know moth and rust can destroy and thieves can break in and steal .

Bible Verses On Trusting God

Life is unpredictable. Even with the best plans and intentions, no one can predict for sure what will come their way in life.

In December 2019, no one planned New Year’s resolutions with COVID-19 in mind. Most of us had never heard of it. Life threw a big curveball.

When unexpected times come, everyone needs to be reminded that God is good, in control and trustworthy even if everything seems out of control. Below is a list of 21 reminders of that truth.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

This is one of the most comforting verses to cling to when you are facing uncertainty or difficulty in your life. Your situation or the situation around you may be beyond your understanding, but it is not beyond Gods.

God knows what is going on all the hows, whens, and whys. When you do not know what to do or what will happen next, trust that He does. Follow Gods guidelines and commands knowing that as you practice obedience, He is working out the rest. The LORD is my strength and my shield my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him .

God sees everything that happens to you. He knows all He has protected you from. He is your source of protection. You do not need to give in to fear. It is not easy, but you can be free to be joyful and praise Him with gratefulness for this truth, even when things are difficult.

My Soul Finds Rest In God

Truly my soul finds rest in God my salvation comes from him.Truly he is my rock and my salvation he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

The idea of the Lord being a fortress is another common scriptural theme. Rocks and fortresses are steadfast shelters that people could count on when their world got chaotic. When a storm sprang up or enemies descended, one could run to the safety of their fortress. This safety represented freedom from worry and constant vigilance. The psalmist tells us that by trusting in the Lord, he doesnt have the kind of fears that plague him when he can only rely upon himself. And this reiterates this biblical theme that our worries and anxieties steal away our peace and rest.

When You Lie Down You Will Not Be Afraid Yes You Will Lie Down And Your Sleep Will Be Sweet

Faith, Fitness & Food

There are days when we just cannot sleep. Our eyes are heavy, but because of the fears and anxieties around us, we simply cannot close our eyes to sleep even when we are Christians. However, the promise from the Lord rests our hearts, and we are assured that we have nothing to worry about and we will fall asleep quickly once we are living in obedience to Gods will.

If we believe that the Lord will be with us ‘always’ Matthew 28:20, then sleep comes more effortless, and the benefits of sleep are felt in our bodies. Also, Proverbs 3:23 cements the idea that when we follow God’s wisdom, ‘ we will be kept from stumbling.’

Keep Your Focus On God

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD Himself, is the Rock eternal.

To be steadfast is to be firm and unwavering. If you keep your mind steadfastly on the Lord, you can have peace in knowing He is in control. He is a steady rock. He does not change or falter. You can have peace in knowing you are cared for by a trustworthy God.

Create In Me A Clean Heart O God And Renew A Steadfast Spirit Within Me Do Not Cast Me Away From Your Presence And Do Not Take Your Holy Spirit From Me Restore To Me The Joy Of Your Salvation And Uphold Me By Your Generous Spirit

Only when our heart is pure can we be assured of a place in the Kingdom of God. This prayer asks for a renewed and steadfast spirit so that guilt and sin will not take them away from God’s presence.

Sometimes we lose sight of where we have been, and the cry to bring back what was lost is being requested in this prayer. If this renewal does not happen, then we will not be sustained.

A similar idea is established in Ezekiel 11:19 as it says, Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,

Should We Keep The Sabbath

Bible Verses For Rest In The Lord | Peaceful Bible Scriptures On Resting In God

The commandment of Sabbath was made for the ancient Jews in the Old Testament. When Jesus came, His teachings are addressed not only to the Jews but also to us Gentiles who were saved through His sacrifice on the cross. Therefore, what we should follow is not the rules meant for the Jews nor the rules made by Moses for the Jews in the Old Testament. As Christians, we should follow instead the teachings of Jesus Christ.

This does not mean that we should work all days of the week without giving time for God. We must make time each day to spend time with God.

Bible Verses About Rest & Relaxing

God is very much concerned about our overall well-being and, ultimately, the saving of our souls. Rest, both physically and spiritually, helps us create a balance between self-care and walking in the footsteps of the Master. Resting in Jesus is a theme that runs throughout the Bible and is presented from several angles.

This means that God wants us to rest in Him so that we can ultimately find His peace that will lead us into eternal rest with Him. Today we will explore different aspects of rest and how each can bring us into a saving relationship with our creator.

But it is not only our physical bodies that need rest. Our minds and souls get exhausted as well. We must get good rest for our bodies and rest our souls through the words of God in the Bible.

Bible Verses About Resting In Peace

Many of the Bible verse about rest and peace comes from the Book of Psalm. This is so because David had so many difficulties in his life. He had riches, experienced much fear and anxieties, fell from grace, and needed redemption and restoration.

Without having the assurance of being able to rest in peace, David would not have been true to his name of being a man after God’s own heart. The Bible verses below will highlight how resting in peace has its rewards.

Other Verses About Rest And Sleep

Take time to rest in the Lord. #VerseOfTheDay #HelpingYouLiveWell ...

God grants sleep to those He loves. So those that disobey God will have no peace of mind both here and after death. But being lazy and having too much rest is also not good. Some Bible verses about rest, warns us about this.

  • Hebrews 4: 3For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, As I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter my rest, although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.
  • Hebrews 4:11-13 Let us, therefore, strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
  • Daniel 2:1 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him.

How To Rest In The Lord When Your World Is Upside Down

Our culture basks in busyness, wearing stress and lack of sleep like a badge of honor. As the news regularly reports, more than half of Americans dont use their allotted vacation days and are likely to bring work with them when they do take a vacation. Work provides our identity with busyness assuring our status. Stimulants like caffeine and sugar provide the means to get moving in the morning while sleeping pills, alcohol, and herbal remedies enable us to forcibly shut down our bodies and minds to get fitful sleep before starting it all over again because, as the motto says, You can sleep when you are dead. But is this what God intended when He created man in His image in the Garden? What does it mean that God worked for six days and then rested on the seventh? In the Bible, rest is more than the absence of work. Rest demonstrates where we place our trust for provision, identity, purpose, and importance. Rest is both a regular rhythm to our day and our week as well as a promise with fuller future fulfillment, So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered Gods rest has also rested from his works as God did from his .

Look To The Promise Of Heaven

The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Paul was the author of this verse. In this letter, this follower of Jesus was telling his young apprentice about one of the numerous hardships that he was going through. But Paul knew no matter what torture, imprisonment or harassment he might face, the Lord was on his side. The Lord would help him face every circumstance.

Paul put his trust in God when the world let him down. He knew that in difficulty he could look to the promise of heaven because he trusted in Jesus. He did not have to get worried because of the difficult things he went through. Neither do you. God cares about how you have been wronged. He will take care of you in those times. Do not let them distract you. Keep your eyes on Him.

Then He Cried And Said Father Abraham Have Mercy On Me And Send Lazarus That He May Dip The Tip Of His Finger In Water And Cool My Tongue For I Am Tormented In This Flame

This analogy here is that one man did not live his life according to the principles of God, and as such, he will ultimately receive a reward of turmoil and torment.

The destruction of the wicked will not be tolerable. How do we escape this? We have to ensure we find peace in Christ while living, for God will have to judge us without mercy. When we rest in peace, we will never hear the words as revealed in Matthew 25:41

Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

In conclusion, we can appreciate that God is concerned about the whole man, and he wants us to enjoy physical, mental, and spiritual rest. Physical rest allows us to perform at our optimum and be in good health with restored energy and better concentration levels.

Spiritual rest affords us the peace that surpasses all understanding. Make time for rest so that you can prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers.
