St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church

St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, also known as Old St. Mary’s, is a historic church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is located in the Society Hill neighborhood at 248 S. Fourth Street, between Spruce and Walnut Streets.

Commonly referred to as “Old Saint Mary’s”, it opened in 1763 and was the second Catholic church in Philadelphia after St. Joseph’s. It is still an active parish of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, with Masses held on Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. The current pastor is Paul A. DiGirolamo, J.C.D. The church is twinned with Holy Trinity Church at 6th and Spruce Streets, which serves as a worship site of St. Mary and which has Masses on holy days at 12 noon.

Humanitarian Relief For Ukraine

Donations to help Ukrainians who are suffering due to this war would be most appreciated.

The Archdiocese of Toronto will channel donations to support the Office for Refugees, Archdiocese of Toronto and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association . CNEWA is a papal agency with a long history of humanitarian relief it is currently working in Eastern Europe, providing Ukrainians with food, shelter, medicine and transportation to safe locations. ORAT is Canadas largest private Sponsorship Agreement Holder, which helps bring hundreds of newcomers to our country each year it will use donations to bring Ukrainian refugees to Canada as soon as possible.

Your donation will help Ukrainians who are beset by violence in Eastern Europe and it will help some of them find a new home in Canada.

St. Marys Roman Catholic Parish serves the community and surrounding areas of Hamburg, Pennsylvania, a rural town situated on the banks of the Schuylkill River in the beautiful Blue Mountain chain.

The beginning of the new millennium brought with it the dedication of our new church, a modern, handicap-accessible building situated on a hilltop just west of town. The original church, dedicated by St. John Neumann in 1854, was no longer adequate for our growing faith community. Since the construction of the new church in 2000, the parish has been blessed with the ongoing development of our parish campus situated on almost 30 acres of picturesque land.

Youth And Cherub Choirs

If your child was previously in the program, you will receive an email from me with more details. If you would like to register your child, you may do so here, or simply fill out a registration form and leave it in my mailbox in the parish center. The youth choir rehearses on Thursdays from 6:00-7:00pm. The cherub choir rehearses on Thursdays from 5:30-6:00pm. All rehearsals will take place in the parish hall. I would like to invite all the youth choir alumni to join us for Easter. It will make the celebration of the Lords resurrection and our return to sung worship even more joyous if we can have all of our singers together again. Marjorie Donalds, Director of Music

Rite Of Christian Initiation

Our R.C.I.A. fall program will be starting soon. We welcome anyone interested in exploring the basics of our Faith. RCIA is also available for youth older than 8 years of age, who have not yet received the sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Holy Communion. Children At Masschildren In Mass Are Gifts Not Distractions

But if a young child does become disruptive, which is natural, please be respectful of other parishioners and remove the child from church and feel free to return once it is appropriate. Please do not let young children wander from the pew or run up and down aisles or through the Mary chapel alcove. Also, if late for Mass, please do not proceed to the front of the church but instead occupy a pew closer to the rear. Consideration of others and reverence help to maintain a prayerful atmosphere for all.

Weekend Homilist And Retreat

Father Benedict Kiely, who has twice been a guest homilist here at St. Mary, is the founder of Nasarean.org, a charity based in Stowe, Vermont, whose purpose is to bring attention and assistance to persecuted Christians around the world. Fr. Ben is incardinated in the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham in England. He was born in London and ordained in Canterbury, and in the summer of 2014 perceived a call to devote his entire priestly ministry to the plight of the persecuted. Father Kiely will be our guest homilist again this weekend Sunday, October 23. He will pose the question What is a Martyr? He will also lead a mini retreat each of the following nights, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, October 24, 25, and 26, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. His topic will be Faith, which is based on a beautiful treatise by Pope Emeritus Benedict called Lumen Fidei .

When hearing reports of the war in Ukraine, and the millions of Ukrainians that have been forced to flee their homeland, many have asked what they can do to help. Over 80,000 Ukrainians have already arrived to Canada through a special visa program created by Immigration Canada. An additional 500,000 have applied to the program and are expected to arrive in the coming months. Many are arriving to Toronto and are without family here in Canada to help them. Among those will be some who are vulnerable to human trafficking, particularly seniors, single women, and women with children. There is an immediate need for families to host for a period of between one and six months some of those who have arrived.
