The Community Center At St Matthew’s

In 1999, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church launched a $1.2 million capital fund appeal to purchase and restore a historic circa 1810 building adjacent to the sanctuary to function as a Community Outreach Center. The architect, Glenn Keys, used a photo from 1883 to guide his design. According to Sanborn maps from May 1884, the building was a boot and shoe store. Since the fall of 2000, the Community Outreach Center at St. Matthew’s has provided a range of services to the surrounding downtown community. This active, community ministry arm of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church is hospitable, vibrant, and welcoming. Current activities include English as Second Language instruction, a Lowcountry Food Bank affiliated Emergency Food Pantry, Holiday Care bags for the homebound elderly, and ongoing support for Charleston’s Cinderella Project for teen girls now held at John Wesley United Methodist in West Ashley, which originated at the center in 2001.

Feast of the Assumption Celebration, August 15, 2022The Filipino Ministry hosted the Feast of the Assumption Celebration and Reception on August 15th. Our faith community is blessed to have dedicated servants of Mary. It was a happy and successful celebration for our Blessed Mother.It Was a Sold Out Burrito Sale on August 21st – Thank You For Your Support!We have an amazing parish family when it comes to supporting our community! Thank you to the Hispanic Ministry for preparing the delicious variety of burritos and for everyone’s support! It was a SOLD OUT event, that benefits our 50th Anniverary Celebration in 2023! Bingo Night on August 6th – Thank You! Thank you to all who supported our Bingo Night last week. We hope that everyone had fun and enjoyed another opportunity to spend time with the rest of the community. Thank you again for your continued support of our Church.Hygeine Packets for July – Thank You! Thank you to all who donated towards our hygiene packets. We collected the following for men: 80 hygiene packets, 13 t-shirts, 50 pairs of socks and 9 underwear. We received the following for women: 77 packets, 8 t-shirts, 12 pairs of socks and 6 underwear. The Filipino and Social Concerns Ministries delivered our generous donations to Catholic Charities on Monday, 8/1. They were very grateful.

So many Catholics describe incredible feelings of peace, joy, relief, and love that they never expected. Jesus is calling you to experience His mercy in this way too. The St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church now has a new nave, day chapel and church office designed to accommodate the parishs current and future needs thanks to the largest project ever undertaken by a single parish within the Omaha Archdiocese.

Ongoing fundraising efforts forced the construction start to be delayed. When sufficient funding was secured, several subcontractors were no longer available. Substitute subcontractors stepped up to ensure scopes of work were completed to the level of quality required.

The $21.7-million project broke ground in April 2019 and completed in June 2021.

As steel erection began, it was determined that select crossmember braces needed to be added. The team collaborated to devise a solution that saved the owner more than $120,000 and prevented six weeks of delays.

Pope Francis Proclaims Year Of Saint Josephfrom December 8 2020 Concludes On December 8 2021

On the 150th anniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, Pope Francis proclaimed a âYear of Saint Josephâ to mark the occasion. He recalls in a new Apostolic Letter âPatris Cordeâ , the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church by Blessed Pope Pius IX.

Saint Joseph is also the patron of workers, father, and a happy death.

Let us now make our prayer to him:

Openly Carried Handguns Prohibited At St Matthew’s

In 2015, the Texas legislature amended several statutes to permit licensed carriers to openly carry handguns . These changes took effect on January 1, 2016. In a nutshell, HB910 simply changes current law related to licensed carriers of concealed handguns to permit licensed carriers to either openly carry handguns or to carry concealed handguns. Openly carrying a handgun requires the carrier to have the handgun properly holstered. A CHURCH or a place of business MAY PROHIBIT concealed handguns or openly-carried handguns, or both, in its buildings by providing notice under the statute. Notice may be accomplished in several ways: A) One may post signs at the public entrances of the building in a clearly visible manner. The text in the signs must be exactly as the statute prescribes in both English and Spanish. One may give NOTICE face-to-face, orally or in writing, to a licensed carrier that concealed handguns or openly carried handguns or both are not permitted in a building. Written notices must contain the same text as the signs.
