St. Peter parish aligns with the four Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus
St. Peter Church is the only Jesuit parish and oldest Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC. St. Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuit Order, sought to find God in all things, and all people. We follow St. Ignatius through finding God in worship, spiritual formation, discernment of Gods plan for us, and an active service to others. Embraced by Gods enduring love, we are a joyful, supportive and welcoming community. If you seek a deeper relationship with Christ in worship, community and service, join us.

St Peter Claver Audit

Not long after Asare-Dankwah’s removal, allegations of financial impropriety at the church surfaced, prompting the archdiocese to order a forensic audit. The Carr, Riggs and Ingram accounting firm conducted the audit, which found that during his years as pastor, Asare-Dankwah made questionable payments totaling at least $368,682 to himself, associates and personal credit card accounts.
Attorneys for Asare-Dankwah and the archdiocese asked the court earlier this year to keep the findings of the audit confidential. Morgan denied that request, saying the embarrassing information does not outweigh the publics interest in an open and honest judicial process.
Since then, the accuser’s attorneys have asked the court to unseal the source material used to produce the audit, including the transcript of recorded statements that Asare-Dankwah made to auditors. According to court documents that cite the audit, those statements include, The archdiocese let me do it, The finance council approved what I was doing, and my mentor told me to do it this way.
The archdiocese and Asare-Dankwahs attorney argued the source material should remain under wraps, calling the plaintiff’s request for information a “fishing expedition” that is “beyond the scope of discovery, lacks any relevance to the purported sexual assault and is wholly inadmissible.”

A Letter from our Pastor, Father John Tokaz, OFM, Cap.
You’re invited to contribute to the worldwide Synod! Dear Saint Peter Parishioners, Pope Francis has called a synod on synodality, a two-year process where the People of God are being invited to reflect on what it means to journey forward together as a Church. You’re being asked to participate because you are a valuable member of our Church. In this intentional process of mutual listening, Pope Francis wants us to rediscover the joy of being the People of God who journeys together, listening to everyone. We ask that you complete the short 5 question questionnaire below so that your voice is included in this synodal process! Please know that your responses are anonymous. Copies of these questions will also be available in hard copy in the church, this weekend’s bulletin, and on the parish website. Drop boxes will be available in the church for hard copy submission. Our parish will hold a listening session during Lent to discuss these questions in person as well. May God bless you and keep you, |

For The Glory Of God And Salvation Of Souls
Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen and precious in the sight of God, and, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. .
This written witness of our patron, St. Peter, the Apostle, reminds us why after two millenia Christians still continue to gather in the name of Christ to pray. Baptized into His Paschal Mystery, we, the Body of Christ, the living stones, are witnesses to His ministry which continues to this day. We build the community by responding to this invitation to the celebration of Gods love through Sacraments, especially in the Eucharistic celebration, the source and summit of the Christian life.
A parish is the place where all the faithful can be gathered together for the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist. The parish initiates the Christian people into the ordinary expression of the liturgical life: it gathers them together in this celebration it teaches Christs saving doctrine it practices the charity of the Lord in good works and brotherly love .
It is my prayer that our parish community will always be a place where we can gather to worship, to celebrate our faith, and to share the living experience of the Body of Christ through our various ministries and faith formation programs.
May the Lord in His gracious love and mercy sustain us in our journey of faith!
Welcome to St. Peters.

Handcrafted Baskets From San Josemonteverde Oaxaca Mexico
Many of our local farmworkers come here from an impoverished village of San Jose Monteverde, in the State of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. This village of about 200 households and 1000 residents has very inadequate clean water. In addition, the men and women have lost their livelihoods due to pandemic shut down of the local markets where they usually sell their wares. The parishes of St. Ambrose and St. Peters have adopted San Jose Monteverde to help meet their most urgent needs. With the support of the Vergennes and International Rotaries and Healing Waters, a Christian not-for-profit engineering organization, we anticipate being able to provide this community with an adequate clean water supply before year end. The women of San Jose Monteverde support their families by weaving baskets and selling to tourists. Since the pandemic shut down travel and closed markets, the women have had no ability to sell their products. As a result, we have offered to help our adopted town women and obtained a variety of handwoven baskets, made of washable recycled plastic, to sell on their behalf. All proceeds go directly back to the weavers, to provide them with money for food, clothing, education costs for their children and 10 percent for the upkeep of their church.

Daily Prayer sets the tone for each day and allows each of us time to ask God what he wants us to do in His name. It is easy to be caught up in all of the problems we have or in the obstacles we face, and often times this can be very distracting for spiritual renewal.
