Assume God, as traditionally conceived, exists. Should a rational person fear God? My answer is definitely yes. Drawing upon the traditional texts, there is ample reason to fear God.
Consider, for example, His sending the angel of death to kill the first-born children of the Egyptians, after having hardened the heart of the pharaoh, so that he would not release the children of Israel from bondage. Or consider the story of Job and the horrors to which he was subjected to test his faith. Or consider Noahs story, where God willingly wiped out most of Earths life, because he was displeased with his creation.
