What Does The Church Of God Believe

Basic Tenets Of The Faith

Is God a Trinity?
  • The Bible: The entire Bible is the divinely inspired truth delivered by God. The Bible is the ultimate example of how to live one’s life of faith.
  • The Godhead: God the Father, God the Son , and God the Holy Spirit, are three distinct persons, existing in a unified form as one body. God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. He is revealed in the Bible. He is eternal, with no beginning and no end. Jesus Christ was the human incarnation of God the Father. He was born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died by crucifixion for the sins of the world. He was resurrected from the dead on the third day and exalted to heaven with God. The Holy Spirit is the essence of God which moves among the people, touching believers here on Earth.
  • The Church: The church is the Body of Christ here on Earth. Its mission is to spread the word of God to all the nations.
  • The Future: In the near future Jesus Christ will return to claim his bride, the church. This event is called the Rapture of the Church. Current and past Christians will be taken to live with Christ forever. Later Christ will return to earth in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Mormonism Is The Core Theology Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter

Mormonism is the theology of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Members of the church are often called Mormons. The term was originally considered derogatory, but today it is considered acceptable. However, the LDS church has explained that the word Mormon is sometimes used to describe other splinter groups that are not affiliated with the Church of Latter-day Saints, such as polygamist groups.

Mormonism is marked by several saving ordinances, or what other religions may call sacraments. These ordinances include baptism by immersion, confirmation, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, an endowment in the temples, and marriage.

Ordinances and covenants help us remember who we are, the LDS church says on its official site. They remind us of our duty to God. The Lord has provided them to help us come unto Him and receive eternal life. When we honor them, He strengthens us.

    Three Days And Three Nights

Jesus Christ was raised from the dead by the Father after His body lay for three days and three nights in the grave. The length of time that He was in the grave was the only sign He gave to prove He was the Messiah. The resurrection of Jesus Christ made immortality possible for mortal human beings. After His resurrection, Christ ascended into heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest, elder Brother and Advocate with the Father.

Things To Know About Churches Of Christhistory And Beliefs

    History

The early history of the Churches of Christ can be traced back to that of the American Restoration Movement which began as a split from the Baptist Denomination in the 19th century with several individual churches that wished to return to apostolic Christianity.

The movement was led by Barton W. Stone in Kentucky and Thomas Campbell together with his son Alexander Campbell in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. They called themselves Disciples of Christ and aimed to restore the whole Christian church on the doctrines and practices outlined in the Bible, rather than traditional councils and denominational hierarchies.

Members of this movement believed that Jesus Christ established only one church, and therefore, Christians should unite based on the Bible. Refusing to affiliate with any denomination, they referred to themselves as Christians.

Their dedication to unite the people of God and restore the church to its original form inspired many people to join in the movement. But, in the middle of the 19th century, controversies occurred among the Christians over the use of musical instruments in worship and the biblical authorization for organized mission societies.

These disagreements led to the breakup of the Restoration Movement into different groups, mainly the Church of Christ, Christian Church, and Disciples of Christ.

    Their beliefs

The Churches of Christ generally share the following beliefs and practices:

    • The Bible is their sole rule of faith and practice

The Assemblies of God are among the Pentecostal churches. The biggest distinction setting them apart from other Protestant churches is their practice of speaking in tongues as a sign of anointing and “Baptism in the Holy Spirit” a special experience following salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service. Another distinct practice of Pentecostals is “miraculous healing” by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our standards of belief are to be found in the Old and New Testament and in the Church’s historic Westminster Confession of Faith. For a brief summary of our beliefs, it is useful to look at the Apostles’ Creed, which is used by many churches in declaring Christian faith:

“I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried he descended into hell.

“The third day he rose again from the dead, he ascended into Heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

What Does The Assemblies Of God Church Believe About Baptism

    • We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as an enduement of the believer with power for service, and the essential biblical evidence of this is speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.
    • This belief stems from the fact that the Bible describes the baptism in the Holy Spirit as an enduement of the believer with power for service.

The last became the more important reason I did not like the response I would get when I told people I was Christian.

All my fellow Christians and church-goers know what I’m talking about, and their reasons are likely the same as why they stopped attending church.

It’s the way someone’s hair stands up and how their back hunches at the pure sound of “God” or “the Bible.”

I felt as though I were bothering people if I mentioned anything about church, God, or Jesus. But, was it my fault they were the ones asking me what my beliefs were?

It is no surprise when people begin talking about religion, everyone around them slowly starts walking backward and fades out of the scene when one of those people in the crowd is actually a Christian.

Truth is, each generation has a different viewpoint and stance on a very hot topic. Why is it that most of us can’t talk about our beliefs without feeling chastised?

Evangelism is among the Christian practices in the church. For those of you who don’t know, it is simply defined as spreading the word of God and how their lives have transformed through following the faith.
