A crisis occurred when he lost his sexual virility .
It was a more serious matter than it would be today. A kings ability to perform the sexual act was believed to reflect his personal power, and the well-being of his kingdom. If David was impotent then it followed, so people thought, that his kingdom was weakened to the point of collapse.
Every effort was made to revive him. A beautiful young virgin was brought to his bed but he was unable to respond.

It was then that jockeying for the throne came out into the open.
Davids eldest surviving son, Adonijah, was the logical choice. He was popular with the people and supported by the tribal armies and their leaders. He had been publicly acclaimed as the next king.

Was Nathanael The Apostle Bartholomew
Most Bible scholars believe Nathanael and Bartholomew were one and the same. The name Bartholomew is a family designation, meaning “son of Tolmai,” which implies that he had another name. Nathanael means “gift of God” or “giver of God.”

What Is A Court Prophet
Prophets in the time of the kings might serve in the temple or places of worship, live alone, or even serve in the court of the king himself. Those of the last category are called court prophets. They were in the service of the ruler and were consulted about important decisions. Though corrupt court prophets would eventually become a major problem for the kings of Israel and Judah, Nathan was a godly and reliable court prophet.
What Can We Learn From Nathan In The Bible
There are many lessons we can learn from Nathans life and ministry. Here are just a few:
1. Its never too late to turn back to God. Despite his failings, David was still a man after Gods own heart. Nathans rebuke showed David that even though he had sinned, God was still willing to forgive him. This is a powerful reminder that no matter how far weve strayed from God, its never too late to turn back to Him.
2. We need to be honest with ourselves. Nathan didnt sugarcoat anything when he confronted David about his affair. He spoke the truth in love, and as a result, David was able to see his sin for what it was and repent. Sometimes we need to be honest with ourselves in order to see our own faults and shortcomings.
3. We should always be ready to give an answer for our faith. When Nathan confronted David, he did so with wisdom and authority. He was able to back up his words with Scripture, demonstrating that he was a trusted servant of God. This shows us the importance of being prepared to share our faith with others and defend our beliefs in an intelligent, biblical way.
In conclusion, Nathans life is a powerful reminder of the importance of godliness, integrity, and service to God. We can learn from his example and strive to follow in his footsteps as faithful servants of the Lord.

What Was Nathans Dream
The conversation must have played on Nathans mind, because that night he dreamt about the matter. In his dream, God instructed him to give a message to David.
It was not the message that David expected. In fact, it turned Davids initial idea on its head.
God, said Nathan, saw the word house in quite a different way. The house of God would not be a structure, however lavish, but a dynasty with God at its head.
In the days of the Patriarchs the head of the clan had walked at the front of his tribe, leading the way and showing his people where they were to go.
In just such a way, God would lead this house, Davids, even when its members wanted to go in a different direction, or go off course completely. God might chastise them for their sins, but he would stay with them through to the end.
So the first time we meet Nathan, he is acting as Gods messenger, Gods voice: it was a position of enormous power.
Where Is Nathan Introduced In The Bible
The first time Nathan is mentioned in the Bible is in 2 Samuel 7:1-2:
After the king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, he said to Nathan the prophet, Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.
David was addressing the fact that the Tabernacle, the center of worship and the house of the Ark of the Covenant, was a tent, whereas his palace was luxurious . Nathan replied, Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you .
However, that night God spoke to Nathan and told him otherwise it was not His plan for David to build Him a house. Instead, God promised David the He would build him a house:
The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me your throne will be established forever .
David was overjoyed to hear this news from Nathan. However, the next time the Bible records Nathan delivering David a message from God, it isnt nearly as joyful.

Nathan And The Temple
The Bible gives no indication concerning Nathan’s early life. He appears suddenly in the narrative as King David plans to build a “house” or temple for Yahweh . “Here I am, living in a palace of cedar,” says David, “while the ark of God remains in a tent.” Nathan initially approves of David’s plan but soon returns to announce that God has decided against the idea. He delivers the following message to David from God:
When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me your throne will be established forever.
The passage is significant for several reasons:
I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it. But God said to me, “You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.”
The Calling Of Nathanael
The Gospel of John describes Nathanael’s call by Philip. The two disciples may have been friends, for Nathanael was brought by Philip to Jesus:
Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wroteJesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
At first, Nathaneal was skeptical about the idea of a Messiah from Nazareth. He scoffed at Philip, “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” . But Philip encouraged him, “Come and see.”
As the two men approached, Jesus called Nathanael a “true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false,” then revealed that he had seen Nathanael sitting under a fig tree before Philip called him.
When Jesus called Nathanael a “true Israelite,” the Lord affirmed his character as a godly man, receptive to the Lord’s work. Then Jesus astonished Nathanael, demonstrating supernatural power by referring to Nathanael’s experience under the fig tree.
Jesus greeting not only to capture Nathanael’s attention but also, by its penetrating insight, threw him off guard. Nathanael was stunned to learn that the Lord already knew him and that he was aware of his movements.
Jesus’ personal knowledge of Nathanael and the recent event under the fig tree caused Nathanael to respond with an amazing confession of faith, proclaiming Jesus to be the divine Son of God, the King of Israel. Finally, Jesus promised Nathanael that he would see a stunning vision of the Son of Man:
