About Southeast Christian Church

SE!KIDS 04/10/22

Our mission to connect people to Jesus and one another has grown and multiplied, expanding beyond the city, over county lines, across the river, to encompass an entire region. We have multiple campuses serving the specific needs of the areas in which they are located, while receiving centralized leadership and teaching from the campus on Blankenbaker Parkway. As a church we want to connect with our neighborsto expand our family by coming alongside people where they are.

Our worship services have compelling sermons instilled with a strong biblical foundation and a focus on the gospel. We sing engaging songs aimed at glorifying God and inspiring people. We share dynamic stories and testimonies, backed by a multimedia experience to support the message. We value truth over trend, authenticity over performance, relationship over results, excellence over perfection, relevance over tradition, creativity over complacency, and Christ above all else. If you are visiting one of our satellite campuses, you can expect live worship and testimonies partnered with a sermon delivered by high definition video from the Blankenbaker campus.

Southeast Christian Ranked 7th Largest In Nation

Southeast Christian Church’s ranking at seventh on Outreach Magazine’s 2015 list of the “100 Largest Churches in America,” with an attendance of 23,012, is one measure of its success.

It’s right behind Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., led by well-known author Rick Warren, who wrote “The Purpose-Driven Church.” The 2015 list is the latest annual ranking compiled from self-reported figures by the Christian church publication, based in Colorado Springs.

For a little perspective, though, what’s thought to be the largest church in the country right now, Life.Church in Edmond, Okla., is not listed and has declined to participate in the survey for the past few years, James P. Long, the magazine’s editor, said in an email.

The church was profiled, though, in the 2015 “Outreach 100” issue in in October that said it was “extending its on-campus worshiping community to 70,000 and beyond at 24 locations,” including video-linked ones. Long said its attendance exceeds 60,000.

Thousands of churches are invited to participate in the survey each year, but some may decline, sometimes because the church has stopped growing or has declined or because the leadership does not want to emphasize numbers, and other reasons, Long said.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.

A man who was supposed to be on house arrest is facing charges, accused of stabbing a woman in a Louisville church parking lot.

The stabbing happened Tuesday afternoon outside the Southeast Christian Church’s southwest campus, which is on St. Andrews Road.

Police said a video shows a man, believed to be Oscar Vasquez, approaching a woman from behind, grabbing her and then stabbing her with a knife.

She told the police she didn’t know the stabber. Police said she suffered injuries to her neck and back, and has a punctured lung.

Detective Charlie Roberts says officers were able to make a quick arrest thanks to the help of church staff members and witnesses.

“We’re thankful that some witnesses in the community stood by and were able to provide us with some firsthand accounts of what they witnessed and we were able to relay some of that information to our police K-9 unit,” Roberts said.

Police arrested Vasquez, 27, that day at a nearby strip mall. He’s been charged with attempted murder and assault. Police said he was supposed to be on house arrest for a criminal mischief charge.

During his Wednesday court appearance, a judge ordered a cash bond of $1 million and no contact with the victim.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky’s largest church plans to hold in-person services this weekend, despite a recommendation from Gov. Andy Beshear to hold only online services.

Southeast Christian Church sent a message to members of its 12 campuses in the Louisville area saying it would hold services both in-person and virtually on Sunday. It says “We will continue to take all necessary precautions possible to provide a safe environment for all who choose to join us in person. If you have any hesitations or are uncomfortable, or if you or someone in your life is medically vulnerable, we encourage you to join us at SE Online.”

Gov. Beshear recommended churches and places of worship move services online starting Friday through Dec. 13 because of the spike in COVID-19 cases. The governor said this is not a requirement, but he did announce a number of new measures last week, including closing bars and restaurants to indoor service from Nov. 20 through Dec. 13, closing schools to in-person classes statewide and limiting gatherings like weddings and funerals to 25 people per room.

Southeast senior pastor Kyle Idleman said in a message to members that the church has decided to remain open out of many mental health concerns it has seen around its campuses and online community.
