Vanity Fair Article Basis Of Film Bishop Pleaded Guilty In Drug Case

Danny Clinton – Living Hope Church, Vancouver WA

Film producer and distribution company New Regency has acquired the film rights to David Kushners Vanity Fair article, The Church of Living Dangerously: How One of Americas Biggest Pastors Became a Drug Runner for a Mexican Cartel, the Hollywood entertainment site, Deadline, reported Monday. The deal also includes the life rights to Bishop, 58, and his adult son, David.

Bishop who built Living Hope Church into a large enterprise housed in an empty Kmart building in central Vancouver was ousted in the fall of 2015 after allegations of alcohol abuse, infidelity and other moral indiscretions came to light.

He was arrested in December 2017 for attempting to smuggle nearly 300 pounds of marijuana into the United States from Mexico. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced the day before Thanksgiving 2018 to five years in federal prison.

Bishop is scheduled to be released Nov. 24. He is currently being managed by a residential reentry field office in Phoenix, according to federal inmate records. A spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons said Wednesday that Bishop transferred June 2 from a satellite prison camp in Florence, Colo., to community confinement, meaning he is either on home confinement or at a residential reentry center or halfway house.

Vancouver City Council Awards Contract To Second Safe Stay Community Service Provider

Press Release Date:

On Monday, Feb. 7, Vancouver City Council voted unanimously to award a professional services contract to Living Hope Church for the operation of the citys second supportive Safe Stay Community for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness. Living Hope Church has extensive experience providing shelter and outreach services to those experiencing homelessness in the community.

The nonprofit will run daily operations at the future Safe Stay Community ensuring safety, security and sanitation measures are maintained, and that residents have access to the stabilization resources and services they need.

Securing a committed and experienced service provider like Living Hope Church is the next important step to opening a second Safe Stay Community in the city, said Jamie Spinelli, homeless response coordinator for the city. They are already strong advocates for supporting our unsheltered neighbors, providing regular outreach services such as meals, food/clothing bank, mobile shower trailer and more on a weekly basis. They also currently operate the only walk-in severe weather shelter in Clark County. Living Hope Church knows what support is needed, how best to deliver it and how to do it with compassion.

The City has identified a potential location for its next Safe Stay Community, and is conducting extensive outreach to all residents and business owners within 1,200 feet of the proposed site, seeking their input during a public comment period.

Living Hope Church Is Getting A Movie Played By Christian Bale

Bale is a method actor so he may want to come down to the old Kmart location and get into character.

Method actor playing Meth pastor.

Great link – thanks for posting!

For anyone wondering what the whole story is behind this “Church” and what might make this movie interesting, check out this special project from The Columbian .

I just read all six parts. I go to a local church and my lead pastor also graduated from Western. I always thought the K-mart church was such an oddity.

The Living Hope Church, which became so big at his peak that it filled an 8500 square foot former K-Mart superstore in Portland Oregon.

I assume they mean the one in Vancouver, not Portland, right? And it wasn’t exactly filled, they had a smaller section walled in inside the main K-Mart building.

“North Portland”

Yeah, all the stories picked up the error in the Deadline article that said it happened in Portland. The Columbian’s story has it correct.

Im assuming youre right. But people dont know us from Canada- so it seems like they simplified it.

Okay, I drive by this place all the time and I had no idea it had such a story. Guess I have a rabbit hole to dive into…

Make popcorn and watch out for tigers.

Yeah – dude was a total cult leader. The fact that he somehow convinced his followers that it’s THEIR fault HE is a douchebag speaks volumes.

I used to go there and I can’t wait for this movie.

Who We Are

Living Hope Christian Church

Live Love Outreach is situated in an area with great need. Many in our local community are living in poverty or homelessness, with no guarantee of food or shelter on any given day. We recognize that we cannot do everything to fix the problem, but we must do something to help!

Live Love Outreach is open to those in need two times a week to provide meals and a place to hang out for a while. It is a place to make a connection and be welcomed. A place where people are not judged for their circumstances, but are accepted, encouraged, and given resources to better their lives.

In the winter during extreme weather, or summers extreme heat, Live Love Outreach is often open as an overflow overnight warming or cooling center, serving hot meals, and providing cold weather items such as sleeping bags, tarps, warm coats, socks, and gloves.
