Bible Verses About Gods Sacrificial Love

Bible verses about love of God (Bible Verses for sleep)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

This is perhaps the most famous Bible verse, but it is still such a powerful reminder of Gods love. He loved, so He gave. God loves us so much that He gave Jesus to die in our place for our sin. He rescued us from our brokenness!

This verse is a simple, clear message of Gods great love, and can be used to share His love with others. You can use John 3:16 as a guide to share the Gospel with those who may not know the full picture of what Jesus did for them on the cross.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

God showed us His love through giving. Jesus died to save us, even though we did nothing to deserve it. We were still sinners! Jesus died knowing full well that we would betray Him again. That is how faithful His love is for us.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16

This is love: Jesus sacrificed for us. He rescued us! Gods sacrificial love transformed our lives and we are called to walk in the way of love, using Christ as our example. We are called to love sacrificially, even love those who may not offer anything back to us.

Because God Loves Us So Much His Love Should Overflow From Us Into Others

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Gods love should not stop with Him loving you, it should overflow into the lives of the people around you. This is the natural result of constantly experiencing Gods loving presence in the form of the Holy Spirit.

When you allow Gods love to grow in you, it will be like a plant that produces fruit. One of the fruits of Gods love is your increasing inclination and ability to love others. His Spirit also allows you to love with a love greater than you could have on your own.

Dont keep the love of God to yourself allow Him to use you to show His love to others.

What Scripture Translation Is Best For Memorizing Short Bible Quotes

For verses above weve used the NIV Bible or ESV Bible translations when noted. You can compare the KJV version with a parallel from Bible Gateway.

The scriptures were not written in English so the translations question comes down to two principles:

  • Is this Bible version faithful to the original?
  • Is this scripture translation in the common language I actually speak?

There can be lots of drama over which translation is the best I like the more common translations like King James Version , New International Version , and English Standard Version . They are well respected by most Christian groups and bring the word of God into modern English.

Some more contemporary translations can be better on specific verses , but I wonder how these will stand the test of time as informal language changes very quickly. All inspirational Bible verses have on purpose to help use grow and engage in a personal relationship withe Jesus Christ.

What Is Storge Love In The Bible

Love the Lord your God.

Storge is a term for love in the Bible that you may not be familiar with. This Greek word describes family love, the affectionate bond that develops naturally between parents and children, and brothers and sisters.

Many examples of family love are found in Scripture, such as the mutual protection among Noah and his wife, the love of Jacob for his sons, and the strong love the sisters had for their brother Lazarus. An interesting compound word using storge, “philostorgos,” is found in Romans 12:10, which commands believers to “be devoted” to one another with brotherly affection.

Christians are members of God’s family. Our lives are knit together by something stronger than physical tiesthe bonds of the Spirit. We are related by something more powerful than human bloodthe blood of Jesus Christ. God calls his children to love each other with the deep affection of storge love.

How God Demonstrates His Love

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Jesus tells us that love is laying down ones life for your friends. But God took it a step further. He sent Christ to die for us even when we were lost in our own sin and opposed to Him. When Jesus tells us to love our enemies , He isnt asking us to do anything He wasnt willing to do Himself.

Gods readiness to die for a world full of antagonists and adversaries illustrates His unwavering and captivating love.

Bible Verses About God As The Source Of Love

And hope does not put us to shame, because Gods love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:5

Gods love is steadfast and it will be proven trustworthy until the end of time. We will not be put to shame by placing our trust in God and His love. His love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, so we carry His love with us in our everyday lives. Wherever we go, whoever we are interacting with, we carry Gods love and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to share Gods love.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:7-8

We are called to love one another with the love that comes from God. Scripture shows that Gods love is great, enduring, and sacrificial. Thats easier to do for those in our lives that are easy to love! But, we are also called to love those who may seem difficult to love. Remember, we are to love others with love that comes from God through the power of the Holy Spirit. We can try to muscle our way through or go through the motions, but will inevitably fall short. We need to rely on God as our source.

We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19

God Chose To Adopt You Because He Loves You

God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure.

You can have a child by accident, but you cannot adopt a child by accident. When you adopt a child, you choose to love, cherish and care for that child for life. When God adopts you, its not an accident. He chooses to love, cherish and care for you forever. He does it because He loves you and wants an eternal relationship with you.

God loves His children as a proud Father. If you have begun a relationship with Him, you are Gods child and He delights in you.

Take a minute to think about how the God of the entire universe loves you personally and chose you to be His child.

Mark 1: 31and The Second Like It Is This: You Shall Love Your Neighbor As Yourself There Is No Other Commandment Greater Than These

An important part of being true Christians is thinking of others and learning how to love them as ourselves. Here, Jesus was asked by a scribe Of all the commandments, which was the greatest?

In which He replied that the first is loving God with all our hearts, then secondly, loving our neighbors as ourselves. And our neighbor doesnt just mean the person next door to us but also the strangers we meet on the street.

Being self-centered and only looking out for me alienates us from others and God. And so while it is okay to love and respect ourselves we also need to show others that same love and respect.

God Is Love So Our Love For Others Points Them To Him

God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and His love is brought to full expression in us.

When we love each other, it gives people a glimpse of God because God is love. It can be difficult for people to understand God, but when we love others in His name, they experience a taste of His love.

Sadly, sometimes Christians are known more for judgment than for love. If you want to help other people know who God is, you can share the message of Gods love and then help them experience it through your love for them.

Love Covers A Multitude Of Sins

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

If you knew the end was near, what would you prioritize? Above everything else, Peter wants his readers to love one another deeply. Why? Because love is the lubricant that makes community work.

The churchs job is to be ministers of reconciliation . We accomplish the Great Commission by introducing people to the reconciliation available through the cross. As we work together to do this work, there are plenty of opportunities to get sidetracked by offenses and hurt feelings. These are things the enemy uses to thwart our efforts.

But when we love one another deeply, it covers those offenses and prevents the enemy from derailing our work.

Moving Bible Verses About Loving Others

For Christians, Bible verses about Gods love are a solemn refuge in times of trouble. But Gods love is intertwined with another kind of love: that of loving and serving others. Indeed, if we summarize the contents of the Bible, it all boils down to love for God and for others. One cannot exist without the other. But for this post, well focus on the latter.

When we hear the word love, we tend to think about the romantic kind. But love, especially love for others, comes in all forms and varying degrees. It shows in how we care for our children, respect our parents, and look out for our neighbors and strangers. Its the reason why charity exists and why some people are willing to devote their lives to the service of others. If you think about it, love is essentially the thread that holds our society together.

From the Old to the New Testament, there are tons of bible verses about loving others. Here are some of them:

  • Love is patient and kind love does not envy or boast it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way it is not irritable or resentful it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
  • And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16
  • Blessed are those who have regard for the weak the Lord delivers them in times of trouble. Psalm 41:1
  • God Loved You Enough To Die For You When You Were Still Rebelling Against Him

But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

No matter how much you have messed up or how far you feel from God, He still loves you and wants a relationship with you.

Parents love their children, no matter how the children behave. If a child says, I hate you! it hurts. But loving parents will still love their children even when they say hurtful things or rebel. Even when you were still rebelling against God and saying, I hate you, He replied, I love you by choosing to die for you so that He could have a relationship with you forever.

You do not need to change or reach a better place before you come to God. He will help you change and get to a better place. All you need to do is accept His sacrifice and say yes to being in a relationship with God.
