What Does The Bible Say About Uncertainty

In Many Situations That Seem Unclear In Our Lives We Have To Be Reminded Of What Is Certain

What does the Bible say about uncertainty? Week 2

As Christians, we have the promise of eternal life through faith in Jesus which includes receiving Gods own spirit to dwell within us at all times. All the hardships and trials that we face in this life have already been defeated, and we can rest in that wonderful truth.

Its safe to say that most people prefer to have a clear understanding of what the definite next steps are for their lives. To have a job that they can rely on and confidence in how to complete their work. To have a thriving relationship with friends and family and to trust that those people will be in your life for the foreseeable future. To be healthy financially and physically with at least the short term view that there are prosperous years to come.

Uncertainty, on the other hand, can be miserable. Living in a season of uncertainty leaves people without a definite clear understanding of what the future holds and as a result a feeling of the ambiguity of what their next steps should be can ensue. Extended seasons of uncertainty can lead people to feel scared or anxious, making them feel trapped by whatever external circumstance is bearing down on them.

Thankfully, this isnt the first time people have faced uncertainty for an extended period of time. As we look to Gods Word, we find incredible examples of people who faced extremely bleak situations only to see God move in a powerful way just like the passage found in 2 Kings 6:8-23.

Remember God Has Provided A Secure Eternal Future

Ultimately he works all things so that we would not lose our heavenly inheritance for we are heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him . The inheritance is the kingdom of God and it is yours. Christ secured an eternal future for his people that is as certain as the bread we eat and wine we drink when we celebrate his death and resurrection in the Lords Supper. When times are uncertain and we are tempted to worry, meditate on this certainty, that our God is a God who is always in control and who never lies or deceives us .

Our comfort through uncertainty is Gods unfailing and faithful love. He loves us and cares for us enough to faithfully bring us through this life into his kingdom, as he did for his Son through the resurrection . There, all our desires will be met and we will live the best of lives.

Encouraging Scriptures For Facing Uncertainty

by Workmatters Team | Dec 17, 2015

We all face times of uncertainty, especially in our work. Maybe theres a threat of job loss, perhaps it doesnt look like youre going to hit your financial goals, or a big account isnt going to come through. Whatever the uncertainty is, it can feel like the ground is about to fall out from under you at any moment.

Ambiguity can drive us crazy and result in charging out on our own to create the path we think is best. We become desperate to feel safe and in control of our circumstances so we manipulate them until they seemingly turn out in our favor.

The problem with living that way is that we miss the opportunity to release our grip and simply trust our Father. I believe that uncertainty is a gift that God intentionally gives us so that our faith and trust in him has a chance to grow. We become better people when we embrace the tension of uncertainty and lean heavily into the faithfulness of God.If youre walking through a time of uncertainty rely on these scriptures. Memorize them. Keep them close to your heart as you simply take the next step forward.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you he will never let the righteous be moved. Psalm 55:22

Trusting God In Uncertainty: 4 Wonderful Things To Know

Trusting God in uncertainty isnt easy. But since uncertainty is inevitable, start preparing now for its next appearance by learning how to do trust Him.

You stare unseeingly out the window. Lost in thought and oblivious to whatever is unfolding outside. Your skin feels tight and your breath escapes in shallow puffs, as your heart races slightly.

Fear and panic try to wrest control of your body but you fight them back. Losing it now wont result in good things. So you draw a deep breath and silently chant, Stay calm. Be calm. Youre totally calm.

You didnt see this coming. This sudden change thatll upend your life. Thats already upending it in the short time since you found out about it. This one new factor that suddenly makes your life feel like its spinning out of control.

What should you do now? What does this mean going forward? How long will it last?

You draw another deep breath and turn from the window, as you stop the questions flooding your mind. Youll make a list thats what youll do. Youll make a list of the next logical steps, then youll check everything off your list.

Yes, thats a good plan. Youll deal with the hurt and uncertainty later. The main thing now is to find your footing and regain control.

Then you wont be uncertain anymore.

Remember God’s Provision For The Rest Of Creation

When uncertainty and fear threaten to overwhelm us, take a look at creation. The sun rises and sets, rains fall, and animals have food and shelter. The natural world tells us about God’s loving and constant provision.

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you.

If God provides these things for his creation, he will certainly provide for his beloved people. Gods abundant love so provided for us that he sent his own Son into the world to free it from death . If he does not hold back even his own Son, how much more will he give us what we need for our everyday existence?

Bible Verses About Worrying In Uncertain Times

“What Does The Bible Say About Doubt?”

These 10 Bible verses will help you to overcome worrying about the uncertain state of the world and your family. Uncertainty is everywhere, and there is a lot of stress, but these Bible verses and simple steps will help you to conquer those feelings.

Last week, I was not worried at all. I thought the world was overestimating the COVID-19 virus, and I was convinced that the media was blowing it all out of proportion.

I was not worried about the virus itself. My husband and I are both middle-aged and healthy, and our kids are healthy. I work in healthcare and work from home, and he works in construction but is assigned to a project to build a new cancer center. I thought the virus and its hysteria couldn’t touch us.

And then, with no warning, our governor shut down all “non-life-sustaining industries,” including the construction of a new cancer center. Joe is out of work, temporarily laid off until the governor lifts his order.

I am not upset with the governor. After reading quite a bit about the COVID-19 situation in Italy, I am glad for the governor’s extra dose of caution. I’m all for social distancing and keeping my little bubble healthy and safe.

Let me back up to say that Joe and I are frugal failures . We try to save money, and we do have automatic savings plans for many different purposes, but we spend a lot of money every month. We take our family on a lot of trips, and we buy whatever we want. We aren’t used to scrimping or making do.

I am now worried.

Dont Lose Faith When It Comes To Trusting God In Times Of Uncertainty

Job receives four messages, each bearing separate news, that his livestock, servants, and ten children, have all died, due to marauding invaders, or natural catastrophes.

Job tears his clothes and shaves his head in mourning, but he still blesses God in his prayers.

Satan appears in heaven again, and God grants him another chance, to test Job. This time, Job is afflicted with horrible skin sores. Even during this, hes still choosing trusting God in times of uncertainty such as this

For this light momentary affliction, is preparing for us, an eternal weight of glory, beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen, but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Jobs wife encourages him to curse God and to give up and die but Job refuses to struggle to accept his circumstances. In the end, he still speaks of Gods goodness.

I used Job as an example of trusting God in times of uncertainty because what an example he is right? If Job can go through all he endured and can still Praise his God! Who am I not to do the same!

They may be unaware of why they feel terrible, or they may be reluctant to share what bothers them if they believe you will think less of them or will be disturbed by what they hear. Brock has noticed that when people are introduced to the term, their eyes light up in recognition. They know it for themselves, she says, or they know someone who has it. Ways to introduce it include films, books, blogs, essays, stories, and conversations with someone who has experienced it. Just remember that you may not be the person they want to talk to, but make sure they have someone to talk to. There Is A Purpose To Suffering

Sometimes we wonder why we have to go through hard things. God doesnt love you, the enemy whispers to us. If God loved you, he wouldnt allow hard things in your life. We have to remember that Satan is a liar and he will tell us anything so that we will not trust God. He tries to convince us a loving God wouldnt let us suffer. And yet, if we read Romans 5:3-5, we find just the opposite is true. Because God loves us he allows suffering. Tribulation brings about perseverance, and that will develop character in us. And God wants us to have character.

One day we will be in heaven and we wont have trials and tribulations, but here on earth, we do experience them. But why should we be surprised? Gods own son suffered on this earth. And he did nothing to bring it on. Suffering is something God allows because of his love for us. And when Gods children suffer, God doesnt step back. He is right there with us.

Usually, I like to start my posts off with a lighthearted or funny story, not talking about anxiety and uncertainty. But right now, aside from a few of the coronavirus memes, there isnt much to laugh about. Tensions are definitely running high in these uncertain times.

As the coronavirus continues to spread like wildfire, it feels like were in a horror movie where the music builds with anticipation and we dont know when it will crescendo.

How much longer will it last? How many more people will die? Will we find a cure? At what cost? When can I leave my house again?

Its easy to feel anxious, overwhelmed, or just plain scared right now. Id be lying if I said I didnt feel the vice-like grip squeezing my chest with each shallow breath. But the other night, as I laid awake in bed nearly suffocating from fear, I realized something:

I can either let fear control my life, or I can let God control it.

Honestly, Hes the only one who knows how this will play out anyway. And worrying about it, while arguably unavoidable, does not serve us in any useful way.

So as I started praying for peace and comfort with all of the uncertainty, I decided to also crack open the Bible to see what God himself has to say about fear, worry, anxiety, and uncertainty.
