What Does The Bible Say About Eternal Life

What does the Bible say about eternal life?

What Does The Bible Say About Eternal Life? According to the Christian Eschatology, Eternal Life traditionally refers to continued life after death. Even the Apostles Creed testifies: I believe the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. It is experienced in its fullness after the Second Coming of Christ. In line with the mainstream Christian Theology, after death but before the Second Coming, the saved live with God in an Intermediate State. After the Second Coming, they experience the physical resurrection of the dead and the physical recreation of a New Earth. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that

Behold Brethren, Gods plan is not to abandon this world, but He intends to remake it. Upon doing this, He will raise all people to new bodily lives to live in it. Having this in mind, you can rest in peace with all hope that Christ will bring back to life all those who follow Him. Gods plans for us are the best as we can read from Jeremiah 29:11 I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. And for sure, the future we hope for is life everlasting in His presence through Christ. This scripture from Prophet Jeremiah clearly reassures us of Gods promise of everlasting life. And as we know, Gods promises never fail. He always does what He says He will do.

Life Means To Know And Walk With God

The most important truth we know about eternal life, is that God is the center of it. The Lord Jesus has eternal life defined in this way: And this is eternal life, that they know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent . To live means to know God. Therefore, if you dont know God relationally we are not called to know God merely rationally, but relationally you arent really alive. You live in the physical sense of the term, but spiritually you are dead in your sins . Do you know God through Jesus Christ? Do you know you have received the Lord Jesus Himself ? Do you know God has forgiven your sins? Do you know the power of the Holy Spirit, whereby God changes you into the image of Himself? Does your character reflect His moral attributes?

Eternal Life Is A Gift

I find it hard to believe that we are blessed entirely by our works

Yes, we need to be faithful and keep all Gods commands to be saved

But, in the first place, our works will count for nothing if there was no hope for Eternity

That is, God has freely given us the gift of eternal life because he loves us

Thats the essence of Christ death

That through the blood of Jesus Christ we will be redeemed back to himself

He loves us and has gifted us with Eternal life

It is now a choice to accept or reject life through our works

The scripture says,

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

Deuteronomy 30:19

Bible Verses About Eternal Life

And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions and in the age to come, eternal life.

The Bible Is Not Silent

Eternal Life Everlasting Life Has Been DISTORTED

First of all, the Bible explicitly says that there is life after death . At the same time, we need to be very clear about the fact that life after death is not a synonym for eternal life. There is a clear, yet all-important difference between a human being that experiences life after death and a human being that enjoys eternal life.

What Jesus Really Said About Heaven And Hell

None of us likes thinking about death, but there are times when we have little choice. The virus spreads, hospitals fill, and systems become overwhelmed. Our greatest concerns, personal and national, are for survival. But for many people even the otherwise healthy the crisis has unexpectedly raised the specter of death itself, our constant companion even if, most of the time, we do our best to ignore it. Or, in more normal times, try to laugh it off. The most recent and memorable effort was NBCs smash hit comedy series The Good Place but the humor even there was rooted precisely in terror, as Eleanor Shellstrop and her companions desperately worked to avoid the afterlife they deserved in the Bad Place and its eternal torments.

The fear is as ancient as civilizations oldest surviving records. The hero of the Epic of Gilgamesh writhes in agony at the prospect of spending eternity groveling in dust being eaten by worms. Few people today may share Gilgameshs terror of consciously living forever in the dirt. Plenty, however, tremble before the possibility of eternal misery. Possibly this is a good time to help people realize that it simply will not be that way.

The vast majority of these people naturally assume this is what Jesus himself taught. But that is not true. Neither Jesus, nor the Hebrew Bible he interpreted, endorsed the view that departed souls go to paradise or everlasting pain.

Those Who Put Their Trust In Christ Immediately Have Eternal Life

There are some who might say that eternal life is something that occurs after death, but Jesus says those who believe have eternal life. He is not referring to the future. These verses below clearly show that He is referring to the present.

31. John 6:47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.

32. John 11:25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.

33. John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for Gods wrath remains on them.

34. John 17:2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

CP VOICES do not necessarily reflect the views of The Christian Post. Opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

For many people, 2020 brought change and challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic turned normal, as we knew it, on its head, causing our society to collectively contemplate death in a deeper way.

Death is not natural

Most people would agree that things in this world are not as they should be, especially when it comes to death. If you have ever watched someone on the doorstep of death, every gasping breath is a fight to live. This is because death is not natural for us we were made to live.

The Bible explains that in the beginning God breathed into man the breath of life so that he could dwell together with Him. But tragically, humanitys first parents, Adam and Eve, chose to disobey Gods good, life-sustaining command and were cast out of Eden. God cursed them, saying, for you are dust and to dust you shall return . Since that day, out of consequence for humanitys disobedience, our bodies have continued to decay and will one day bring forth death .

Death is not natural we were not made for this. God created humanity in His image and after His likeness to live and walk in perfect fellowship with Him . Sadly, death is the unnatural consequence of humanitys sin.

Bible Verses About Eternal Life: Is Everlasting Life Real

Life is mysterious.

And thats the simple truth.

Despite the pains we suffer each day, we still want to live.

And thats because we know the truth ourselves.

That death brings an end to our relationship here on earth.

The bible says in Ecclesiastes,

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten

But is there a chance we will meet with our dead friends or family members again?

What about us?

When we die, is there another blissful life out there?

This evening, after a fun time with my colleagues at work, I heard a piece of sad news.

One of my patients suffering from a terminal disease has passed on.

He was a friend and a good man.

When I heard, I was shocked.

He was a Christian and an excellent father.

Is there hope in Christ that he is rewarded?

Yes, there are bible verses about eternal life that confirms we will not die in vain.

God is merciful, and he has loved us from the beginning of the world.

Thats why Jesus had to die in the first place.

The scriptures say,

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life

So, its that simple.

We will not die hopeless if we believe in Christ.

I have compiled bible verses about everlasting life to motivate your soul.

Having Eternal Life Is Not A License To Sin

Those who truly put their trust in Christ will be regenerated by the Holy Spirit. They will be new creatures with new desires. Jesus says, My sheep hear my voice. If you are living in rebellion and you are deaf to the words of the Lord that is evidence that you are not His. Are you living in sin?

Scripture makes it clear that many people who profess faith in Christ are going to one day hear the words I never knew you depart from me. Christians dont desire to live in sin. Examine your life. Does sin affect you? Do you see God working in you?

38. Matthew 7:13-14 Enter through the narrow gate for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

39. Jude 1:4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

40. 1 John 3:15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.

41. John 12:25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Reminder

43. John 4:36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.

What Happens To Believers When They Die

  • General Biblical Studies, Interdenominational Christian Training Center

One reader, while working with children was presented with the question, “What happens when you die?” He didn’t quite know how to answer the child, so he submitted the question to me, with further inquiry: “If we are professed believers, do we ascend to heaven upon our physical death, or do we ‘sleep’ until our Saviors return?”

What Does See The Salvation Of The Lord Mean

Bible Truth & Prophecy

But God being rich in mercy can make us alive together with Christ by grace . This is what it means to say, salvation belongs to the Lord. Hope eternal only belongs to God, and He shares it by grace with only those though they do not deserve it who trust in Him and His Son, Jesus for salvation.

Can Eternal Life Be Lost

Revelation 20:11-15 describes a scene in Heaven in which a Book of Life is opened and in it, all humanity is judged by their deeds. When we come to the end of our lives when we meet Jesus there will be a moment in which our lives are judged by God. Basically, there is no way to fake it into Heaven. God knows your thoughts, motives, beliefs, and when you stand before him He will know what your choice is.

God wishes that none perish and all are saved . He is patient with us hoping that over the course of our lives we will choose life over death. If we want God, we can rest assured that he wants us. If we dont believe, want nothing to do with his Kingdom, and have no desire to serve him even if we once did God respects our decision to reject him.

The Christian faith is described in relational, even familial terms. God is our Father, and we are adopted into his family as sons and daughters. If we are in his family, we are in. Nothing can separate us from his love .

Romans 6:23 says, For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. God has given us the free gift of eternal life with him. This is something that we surely do not deserve, and it is only by Gods grace that we are saved. Take a moment and thank God for rescuing us from what we deserve. If you do not know him, consider asking him to be your God, so you can begin to experience eternity on this side of Heaven.

What Is Eternal Life According To The Bible

Eternal life is a free gift of God to those who believe in Jesus Christ. Eternal life begins when we put our faith in Jesus. As believers in Christ, eternal life continues with God after our physical death. Eternal life is the quality of life that results when we know Jesus Christ by experience, on a first-hand basis.

Your Salvation Is Secure In Christ

What the Bible says about eternal life.

Believers cannot lose their salvation. Jesus always does the will of the Father. In John 6:37 Jesus says, All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never turn away.

Then Jesus tells us He has come down to do the will of the Father. In verse 39 Jesus says, And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.

Jesus always does the will of the Father, those who the Father gives will come to Him, and Jesus will not lose any. He will raise that person up on the last day. Jesus is not a liar. If He says He will not lose any, then it means He will not lose any.

28. John 6:40 For it is My Fathers will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

29. John 10:28-29 I give them eternal life, and they will never perishever! No one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Fathers hand.

30. John 17:2 For You granted Him authority over all humanity, so that He may give eternal life to all those You have given Him.

How Long Can A Heart Be Stopped During Surgery

Your heart will usually be stopped for about 30-90 minutes of the 3-6 hour surgery. The heart-lung machine makes it possible for the surgeon to work on a still heart. This technique has been used for many years with excellent results. Once the surgery is over, the surgeon and perfusionist restart your heart.

What Are Heaven And Hell Like

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world … Then he will say to those at his left hand, You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels … And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Many of our ideas about heaven and hell actually come from sources other than the Bible. In particular, The Divine Comedy, an epic poem written by Dante Alighieri in the 1300s, vividly describes hell, purgatory and heaven as imagined by Dante. Many of those ideas have endured to the present time.
