You Of Little Faith Why Are You Afraid

Do Not Be Afraid | Bible Study on Fear | Bible Study on Trusting God | Bible Study on Faith

Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

As we’ve seen in the Psalms, when our faith is in God, it transforms our fears in other areas. Here we see the disciples in a situation that would trouble us all. They’re trapped in a storm and they’re worried about capsizing.

They wake up the sleeping Jesus, and He asks, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” For those paying attention, He answers His own question in the question. They’re afraid because their faith hasn’t reached maturity yet. Over the rest of the disciples lives, they will continue to grow in faith and diminish in fearto the point that most of them will give their lives for the gospel.

Isaiah 42:16 And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.

Worrying Won’t Add A Moment To Your Life

Look at the birds of the air they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Jesus’s teachings are often intensely practical. His question here is basically, how is worrying changing your situation? Is it adding or subtracting from your life? Is it giving you more time, or is it actually stealing from your life?

Take heart, God intimately cares for the birds of the air, and they’re not nearly as valuable as you.

Gods Command To Fear Not

Do Not Be Afraid, Isaiah 54:4, Bible Verse Printable Wall ...

God says Do not fear hundreds of times throughout the Bible. But what does that mean? Was my 7th-grade-self sinning? Are you wrong to feel fear when youre not sure how to pay next months rent or when you get that dire health diagnosis or when your job is on the line?

No. Youre not wrong. God wired our brains to experience fear. It is a primary emotion. There is a reason and purpose for our fear as we respond to triggering stimuli. When God says, Do not fear he is not commanding us to shut off a part of our brain. His model citizen isnt an emotionless and stoic robot.

The real issue God wants us to wrestle with is where we go when we fear. Where do you go with your fears? How do you deal with them?

Simply put, God wants us to come to him. Fear can paralyze us. Yet when we fear in the presence of God, God help us take the next step of faith even in the midst of our fear! Unfortunately, no one will be able to escape fear in this sinful and broken world. It is real. It can be paralyzing. It is powerful.

But God is more powerful.

He has the power and desire to be with us in the midst of our fears. Remembering this will enable to us to take the next step of faithfulness in our lives. How? Because God is with us. We can continue to fight to believe Jesus is more in and through our fears thanks to his presence with us.

Fear Not: 15 Bible Verses About Overcoming Fear

7th grade. Top of the St. Louis Arch. I lean over to look down at the citythen the arch moved. Today, I know such movement to be a sign of a healthy structure because it can flex and flow with the wind. At the time, I panicked. I couldnt breathe. I was in the grip of fear, and I now have the Arch to thank for my lasting fear of heights.

What do you fear? Where and how do you fear? Where do you panic and freeze up? What makes you paralyzed?

Why Does God Not Want Us To Worry

Jesus is saying that worry demonstrates a lack of faith in God. Therefore, worry is actually a sin! Worry demonstrates a lack of trust in Gods love because it implies that God doesnt really care about our needs. It shows lack of faith in Gods wisdom because it implies that God doesnt know what hes doing.

Do Not Be Afraid | 30 Bible Verses to help you Conquer Fear!

When I think about the root cause of so many mistakes and spiritual pitfalls in my life, the source seems to be the one and only, the ugly, fear. Fear will cause us to buckle and settle for less than God’s best. It’ll cause us to disobey after diluting our trust in Him, and even when do stay strong, it’ll rob us of our peace and joy. Here are some of the best scriptures helping us overcome fear by increasing our faith. Deuteronomy 31:8 “He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid do not be discouraged.” When you’re fearing a situation or emotional challenge, really envision God saying this, just to you. He’s on your side. No matter who leaves after promising forever. When friends, family members or co-workers disappoint you, he’ll never turn on you. Some of my lowest, most painful moments in life have also been my closest times with the Lord. I’ll never forget crying in fetal position on my kitchen floor after a brutal break up, and feeling the presence of God’s comfort and love like never before. It was so powerful I found myself laughing through the tears, as Duet. 31 burned in my heart: I am here. You will be okay. I’m all you need, and you’re never going to be alone. That was ten years ago, and he’s never let me down.

Bible Verses For Fear

Ive lived a life marked by fear.

Im standing at the door of single motherhood, and Im afraid. Ive known fear for so long. Its been a close companion, Im ashamed to admit it, but its true.

Afraid of abandonment, another affair, secret emails, angry words that stab deeply into my heart, identity and security. Ive known the fear of counting pennies to feed my family. Rationing out gas for my car so we can make it to church and the grocery store that week.

The kind of fear that brings you to your knees, choking on your own tears. Sobbing in the shower so the kids cant hear you, but they still know. A fear that brings the momma bear out, fighting to protect my kids.

My life marked by fear has had grave consequences. Little by little it stole my identity, peace and happiness. I woke up one day and realized I didnt know who I was anymore.

But not anymore. I draw a line in the sand.

I choose to learn to live courageously within the protective arms of the Savior!

Ive been working on me. Call it boundaries. . Call it whatever you wish, but Im finding me now and who I am in Christ.

Do Not Be Afraid Zechariah

When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth.”

Zechariah was chosen to minister before the Lord in the temple when he’s visited by Gabriel, an angel of the Lord. Like any of us would react, Zechariah’s first response is fear. The angel tells him not to be afraid he’s here because of Zechariah’s prayers. He’s here to inform the priest that his wife, Elizabeth, is pregnant with John the Baptist. Gabriel will then be dispatched to share some critical information with a young woman.

Nothing Can Separate Us From God’s Love

Do not Be afraid – What does the Bible say?

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul’s words here dont directly mention fear, but they might as well. This beautiful passage lays out the reason we don’t need to be afraid. Nothing can separate us from God’s love. This security should make us more courageous.
