It Will Help You Grow In Relationship With Other Christians

Why should I read the Bible? Why should You read the Bible? // Personal Development

Finding a friend you can talk to about God’s word can be a great encouragement. If you’re both reading every day, you can push each other to continue when the other person is feeling less enthusiastic. If you go to a church, you might be able to find an older wise Christian person to read with. They may even be able to meet with you to read and pray. Or maybe you can meet with a friend at school.

As you sit together and chat about what you have read during the week, it provides a great opportunity to reflect and pray for each other as you strive to live for Jesus.

The Right Handling Of Scripture Is Approved By God

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

It is a precious thing to be assigned to do a very important task, and then to find the master worker approving of what hes asked you to do. Were all assigned in some measure to handle the word of God. And what a wonderful opportunity to be pleasing to the Lord.

Why Christians Need To Read The Bible

In the 90s, there was a popular acronym for the BIBLE, which stood for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

And thats what the Bible is. Its our roadmap to how were supposed to live life on this earth as a representative of God and his son Jesus Christ.

The Bible has information on:

In short, the Bible is our instruction manual for how we should live in the world, filtered through the eyes of Christ.

  • The nature and character of God.
  • The history of our faith.
  • Who Jesus is and why he died for our sins.
  • How we should interact with God and other people.
  • Proper conduct and behavior for Christians.

The Apostel Pauls sums it up perfectly in his letter to Timothy, All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. .

Now that weve covered what the Bible is and why its important to read it, lets talk about the best way to read the Bible.

The Bible is our instruction manual for how we should live in the world, filtered through the eyes of Christ.

Its Stories Bring Assurance To The Timid Child

Encourage the child with Bible stories.

There are a lot of Bible stories that could give assurance to a timid child. Psalm 34:7 says, The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

Tell him how the prophet Elisha was encircled by a band of heavenly angels in the mountain city between him and a host of armed men. Let him also read about how the Lord delivered Peter from death, opening the prison with massive doors and a great iron gateway with bolts and bars.

Encourage the youth with these stories. Take a leap of faith, asking Gods Spirit to work through your child the same way He did for these men of old!

4. It guards them against worldly allurements.

Worldly allurements creep into the church like mad.

True enough, there is little that we can do about it. The easy access to the worldwide web allows Satan to open avenues for temptations. Thus, children who are left on countless hours in front of the screen may be led astray.

Though Bible reading does not entirely shut children from worldly allurements, it may safeguard the youth with correct principles to overcome it. 1 Peter 5:8 says, Be sober-minded be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Additionally, verse 9 says, Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that your brotherhood is experiencing the same kinds of suffering throughout the world.

Reading is a habit that must start at an early age.

Secondly, when you make the decision to startthe Holy Spirit will guide you each step of the way. For me, as I intentionally started reading the Bible daily, the Holy Spirit helped me to take control of my selfdefeating, limiting beliefs about not having enough time to read the bible.

In turn, I had to simply pray about it.

With Gods help and help from those who were actually reading scripture daily, after awhile I was able to see the real reason why reading the bible daily was such a struggle for me.

I was in a bigger battle. And you are too.

When the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, he shared with him the power of the Bible to change hearts. He said …

    Read The Bible For Blessing

Reading the Bible promotes wellness in our lives as we allow it to shape our beliefs, thoughts and actions. We may not feel the results of its nourishment at first, but our daily reading will eventually become evident.

“God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says …” Revelation 1:3

Why Should I Read The Bible

Do Christians have to read the Bible? Maybe youve tried, got overwhelmed or discouraged, and gave up. Why should you read it anyway?

Many people asked Billy Graham that same question over the years. Heres his response:

Today, many people keep the Bible a closed book. One reason is because we dont realize how much we need it. If I suggested that you stop eating for a few months, youd ignore meand rightly so. We need food in order to survive, and without food well grow weak and eventually die.

Yet many Christians are spiritually starved and weak because they ignore the spiritual food God has provided in the Bible. The Bible is not an option it is a necessity. You cannot grow spiritually strong without it.

Job said, I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread . Is the Bible this important to you?

Dont look on the Bible as a bad-tasting medicinethink of it instead as a delightful food that God has given us to strengthen our souls! The Psalmist said, Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord .

You see, God wants you to grow in your faithand one of the ways that happens is through reading Gods Word and letting its truth sink deeply into our hearts and minds. Through the Bible we learn how God wants us to live, and we learn too what He has done to save us.

    Scripture Frees From Satan

You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

And the context is that Jesus is showing the Jewish leaders that, though they think they are not slaves, You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your fathers desires . Satan is your enemy, young Christian. He is a thousand times stronger than you are. So, John writes to the young believers,

I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

This is our only hope for defeating a supernatural enemy. Every time Jesus was tempted by the devil , he struck back with the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God , and he had it memorized, so he didnt have to carry a book in the wilderness.

Where To Start Reading The Bible For Beginners

New Christians or people seeking to learn more about Christianity should start in the New Testament.

The New Testament covers the life of Jesus, the history of the early church, and ethical and moral guidelines for Christians.

To get an excellent overview of this information, I recommend the following reading order:

The Gospel of John Having a firm understanding of who Jesus is and why he came is important to your faith as a Christian. The book of John does a marvelous job of explaining who Jesus is and what his ministry is about. The other Gospels detail Jesus ministry, but they focus more on the things Jesus did.

Acts- The book of Acts was written by Luke, who also wrote the Gospel Luke, and records the history of the early church. Starting with Jesus ascension and commission of the disciples, the persecution of the early church, and the spread of the Gospel throughout the known world.

Romans- Every Christian should read the book of Romans. If you want to build your faith and gain a clearer understanding of the Good news of Jesus Christ, this is the best place to start once youve read the two books.

Once youve read through these first three books you should have a firm understanding of who Jesus is, the history of the early church, and a better understanding of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

After youve read these books, you can dive into the Old Testament and read:

This Is What Gods Word Can Do:

    Save you.

Get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. James 1:21

    Help you grow in wisdom.

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey His commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise Him forever! Psalm 111:10

    Teach you how to live.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

    Protect you from being deceived.

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. Colossians 2:8

    Develop your faith.

Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. Romans 10:17

    Keep you from sin.

I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11

    Fill you with hope.

Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans 15:4

    Bring you joy.

How I delight in Your commands! How I love them! Psalm 119:47

    Give you peace.

Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing can make them stumble. Psalm 119:165

    Prosper your life.
