What God Says About Difficult Times

Bible Verses about Strength What Does the Bible Say?

Psalm 9:9-10 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Psalm 34:10b Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Isaiah 26: 3-4 Those of steadfast mind you keep in peacebecause they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock.

What Does It Mean To Endure All Things

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. I Corinthians 13:7. Love endures all things. What does it mean to endure? In this context, the word meansto remain to persevere to bear bravely and calmly. Lets break that down a little and explore each of those definitions.

Enduring Is Pushing Through

You can endure by “pushing through.” Pushing through means when you are faced with difficult situations, you do all you can to deal with them instead of complaining. Complaining only adds another layer to your adverse situation.

You push through by reading your Bible and doing what God says to do about your situation. Realize that God has given you everything you need to endure.

The Holy Spirit is always there to strengthen you and keep you in perfect peace when you rely on Him.

Use your community of faith when it is appropriate and beneficial. Often believers can get encouragement and support from other positive people that will help them to endure. Remember to stay clear of negative people who might distract you to do everything else except endure.

The Musts The Shalls And The Endurance Of Hope

And so when you read in Scripture that God SHALL cause you to endure , the aim is that, with all peace and joy, you would set your hope on the sovereign grace of God, and in that hope find the strength to endure. And when you read in Scripture that you MUST endure , the aim is the same: that, with all urgency and earnestness, you would set your hope on the sovereign grace of God, and in that hope find the strength to endure.

The SHALLS of Scripture are sweet and reassuring calls to hope in God. The MUSTS of Scripture are urgent and earnest calls to hope in God.

The MUSTS are not telling us to endure in our own strength. And the SHALLS are not telling us that we dont have to endure. Both the SHALLS and the MUSTS are telling us: HOPE IN GOD! HOPE IN GOD! HOPE IN GOD! For this is the great source of power to endure in the path of obedience.

If you put your hope in the sovereign grace and power of God and not in your own strength, or in the approval of others or in money or in fleeting pleasures or in status, then when the limelight shifts off your ministry and your life, and the praise of man is gone, and the glamour of self-denial evaporates and all the supports of men crumble, then you SHALL endure with the endurance of hope.

Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Amen!

Romans 1: 4 Endurance Leads To Hope

What does the Bible say about patience?

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

Romans 15:4 NIV

You can read story after story in the Bible of examples of people who faced impossibly difficult situations and still made the choice to keep moving forward in faith, without knowing what the outcome would be.

  • Job did all the right things, but still faced heartbreakingly difficult situations and praised God in the midst of them. God greatly rewarded Job for his faith.
  • Paul was imprisoned over and over again, beaten, shipwrecked and more and he still chose to praise God and continue his work.
  • Jesus, of course, is the ultimate example of endurance. He did nothing wrong and still went through adversity, pain, and hardshipall for us.

There are so many more David, Jacob, Abraham, Joseph, Jeremiah, Ruth, and countless others.

When you feel like quitting, find inspiration in these people told about in the Bible who persevered in faith, clinging to hope every step of the way.

What Does The Bible Say About Enduring Love

1 Peter 4:8: Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Ephesians 4:32: Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. 1 Peter 3:7: In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives.

To Endure Hardship Remember That Gods Promises Are Trustworthy

Paul cites the words of a familiar hymn to remind Timothy that Gods promises are trustworthy and will not fail. He introduces it as a trustworthy statement . He probably breaks into the middle of the hymn, so that the opening word refers back to earlier words that we do not know. It consists of four if clauses, followed by their consequences. The first two refer to those who are faithful. They attain to life and reigning with Christ. The last two refer to those who deny Christ or are faithless, and the consequences. The overall point reinforces what Paul has been saying, that if we endure hardship with Christ now, we will experience glory with Him in eternity.

There are a couple of interpretive difficulties in the hymn. Some take if we died with Him, we also will live with Him to refer to the truth of our identification with Christ in His death and resurrection, as Paul sets forth in Romans 6. The language is similar, but it seems foreign to the context. The verb may also be translated, if we die with Him, meaning, if we die a martyrs death, we will also live with Him eternally. If that is the meaning, the hymn would have been an encouragement to those who were suffering persecution for the gospel.

The Bible has so much to say on this topic and it calls fear out for what it is fear is a liar.

Important Lessons On Endurance And Patience From The New Testament

Bible Verses On Perseverance | Encouraging Scriptures About Endurance

Endurance of Christ

We have an interesting statement in 2 Thessalonians 3:5 regarding endurance as a Christ-like quality that God wants to develop in our lives as a part of our spiritual growth. Now may the Lord direct your hearts toward the love of God and the endurance of Christ. There are three possible ways to take this passage grammatically and actually all three may apply, but it is the third one that is probably best and important to our study.

In this prayer, Paul prayed that either they might wait patiently for the coming Savior as translated by the KJV, into the patient waiting for Christ , or that they might have the kind of endurance that Christ gives, an endurance that comes from relationship with Him , or that they might experience the kind of endurance that belongs to Christ or that was demonstrated in His sufferings on earth and that He is demonstrating even now as He waits for His enemies to be made a footstool for His feet . All three are true biblically and perhaps all are intended. This would then be what is sometimse called a plenary construction where the author intends more that one idea to be understood. Number three, however, was probably Pauls intention. While a too rigid exegesis is to be avoided, it may, perhaps, be permissible to paraphrase: the Lord teach and enable you to love as God loves, and to be patient as Christ is patient.95 Thus again, maturity in Christ-likeness is the objective.

Those Who Have Endured

11. Why should we consider the experiences of those who have endured?

11 We do not have to endure alone. To encourage Christians to endure the hardships heaped on them by Satan, the apostle Peter wrote: Take your stand against him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by the entire association of your brothers in the world. The experiences of those who have endured teach us how to remain steadfast, reassure us that we can succeed, and remind us that our faithful course will be rewarded. Let us consider a few examples.

12. What do we learn from the example of the cherubs posted at Eden?

12 The cherubs. The example set by some of the first spirit creatures to appear to humans can teach us to endure in a difficult assignment. Jehovah God posted at the east of the garden of Eden the cherubs and the flaming blade of a sword that was turning continuously to guard the way to the tree of life. Surely those cherubs were not originally created for this assignment! After all, sin and rebellion were not part of Jehovahs purpose for mankind. Yet, nowhere do we read that the cherubsspirit creatures of high rankcomplained that they were overqualified for this task. They did not become bored and give up. Rather, they obediently stuck to their assignment and endured until their work was completedperhaps at the time of the Flood, over 1,600 years later!

13. How was Job able to endure his trials?

Will Endurance Complete Its Work In You

15, 16. What work must endurance complete? Give examples of how we can let endurance complete its work.

15 Under inspiration, James wrote: Let endurance complete its work. What work must endurance complete? It helps us to be complete and sound in all respects, not lacking in anything. Trials often reveal our weaknesses, aspects of our personality that we need to refine. If we endure those trials, however, our Christian personality becomes more complete, or sound. For example, we may become more patient, appreciative, and compassionate.

When we endure trials, our Christian personality becomes more complete

16 Because endurance completes the vital work of molding us as Christians, do not compromise Scriptural principles to bring an end to tests that come your way. For instance, what if you struggle with unclean thoughts? Rather than give in to temptation, prayerfully reject such desires. You will thus fortify your self-control. Are you facing opposition from an unbelieving family member? Instead of yielding under pressure, be determined to maintain your pattern of wholehearted worship. Consequently, you will strengthen your confidence in Jehovah. Remember: To have Gods approval, we must endure.Rom. 5:3-5 Jas. 1:12.

17, 18. Illustrate the importance of enduring to the end. As we get closer to the end, what confidence can we have?

^ The Bible does not say how many cherubs were assigned to this task.

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid do not be discouraged.

Deuteronomy 31:8

One of the lies we often believe when we feel stuck is that we are alone in this.

Nobody else understands how hard this is. Nobody else has been in this situation. Nobody else feels my pain. No one gets it.

God promises that He will never leave you or forsake you. Just because you are going through a tough time doesnt mean He has abandoned you.

God is with you, always!

Galatians : 9 Do Not Grow Weary In Doing Good

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9 NIV

This is the first verse I turn to when I feel like giving up. Its a reminder that good things take work. And, often, they take a lot of work.

But that doesnt mean your efforts are fruitless.

One of my favorite hymns growing up was called, The Hymn of Promise.

It talks about how an entire apple tree is inside a tiny little seed. But, you cant just crack the seed open and have the full tree pop out.

Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

It takes time, patience, nurturing, and protection. But when you reap that harvest, it is so worth the effort!
