Example Of Judging Others In The Bible

What does the BIBLE REALLY SAY about JUDGING OTHERS?

So, we read in 1 Corinthians 5 that Paul told the church in Corinth to remove the sinful person from among them with the hope that they would be reconciled. If we read in Pauls next letter to them, we see that there was evidence that this person had repented. Paul instructs the church at this time to affirm him and welcome him back into fellowship.

Sufficient for such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the majority, 7 so that on the contrary you should rather forgive and comfort him, otherwise such a one might be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8 Wherefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him. 2 Corinthians 2:6-8

Bible Verses About Judging Others Actions

What does the Bible say about judging others for their actions? As with everything else weve read so far, we cant judge others when we, ourselves, are not free of sin!

These Bible verses about judging others actions say:

  • Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure, you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brothers eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye, when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brothers eye. Matthew 7:1-5 ESV
  • When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. John 8:7 NIV

Is Being Judgmental A Sin

Judgment is the most human of all our sins. We have a natural inclination to judge others, and its not always easy to stop ourselves from doing so. With that being said, what are your thoughts on judging other people? Do you think its wrong or should we be more compassionate with one another?

In this blog post I will discuss my opinion on judgmentalism in relation to Christianity. Please share your thoughts below! Judgmentalism is the act of judging people without knowing them.

Its a human instinct to judge others, but it can be destructive when you dont know all the circumstances. Does being judgmental make you a sinner or not? Youll have to read on for my opinion and definition!

Matthew chapter 18, verses 15 and 16 instructs members to settle their differences privately with each other. And, if this fails, they are to seek help in resolving the dispute. Which Option Most Closely Describes You

Lets take a closer look at what is actually being said. Though we will rarely respond to something perfectly, lets analyze the three approaches and see what we can learn.

Option A: This option characterizes self-righteous condemnation. Letting the person know that we disapprove isnt enough we have to also insult him and elevate ourselves in the process. We cut off ties without compassion, in effect giving up any chances we could have to help or positively influence the individual. At the same time, we pat ourselves on the back.

Option B: This option characterizes righteous discernment. We let the person honestly know that we are not comfortable with enabling wrong behavior but it is done in a loving and compassionate way, allowing him to explain his opinion on the situation. It is an open dialogue where we strive to help him, but make very clear that we believe his behavior is wrong.

Righteous judgment requires a deep knowledge of right and wrong, and the courage to truly love and care for the well-being of others. Option C: This option characterizes what so many mistakenly call love, but actually is better described as irresponsible tolerance and perhaps enabling. To avoid offending him or feeling uncomfortable ourselves, we ignore his behavior and the damage and destruction he may be doing to himself. We enable behavior that we know is wrong and has destructive consequences and just look the other way.

Look To The Word Of God

When in doubt, look to the word of God as your guide. The Bible tells us that our speech should be loving and gracious .

When confronting someone about their sin, do so in a loving and gentle manner. Dont approach them condescendingly. Approach them in a loving manner that seeks to restore them from sin.

Our Judgments Of People

Judging Righteously

It is easy to see how our judgment of God can naturally influence our judgments of those around us as well. If we assume that the Lord is angry, over-controlling, vengeful, self-interested, or a being to be feared and not trusted, how much easier it becomes for us to superimpose those same negative motives and character traits upon people around us.

In a memorable general conference talk, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles stated:

âThis topic of judging others could actually be taught in a two-word sermon. When it comes to hating, gossiping, ignoring, ridiculing, holding grudges, or wanting to cause harm, please apply the following:

âStop it!

âItâs that simple. We simply have to stop judging others and replace judgmental thoughts and feelings with a heart full of love for God and His children. God is our Father. We are His children. We are all brothers and sisters. I donât know exactly how to articulate this point of not judging others with sufficient eloquence, passion, and persuasion to make it stick.â3

Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught, âGod cares a lot more about who we are and who we are becoming than about who we once were.â5 Elder Renlund also shared an insightful statement frequently made by Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa: âIâm no saintâthat is, unless you think a saint is a sinner who keeps on trying.â6

The Authority On Judging

Scripture makes it very clear that there is one supreme Judge of allthe Lord Godand that He alone has the authority to determine right and wrong motives and behaviors.

Many Old Testament passages attest to the truth of God as Judge:

God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

He shall judge the world in righteousness, and he shall administer judgments for the people in uprightness. (Psalm 9:8

Let the heavens declare His righteousness, for God himself is Judge. Selah

For the Lord is our Judge, the Lord is our Lawgiver, the Lord is our King He will save us.

The Old Testament is rife with passages that establish God as the ultimate Judge. When we come to the New Testament, we find that the Father has committed authority and judgment to the Son. Jesus spoke of this authority before He ascended to heaven after the Resurrection (Matthew 28:18

For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son.

I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges himthe word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

Because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.

We Are Judged By How We Judge

Remember Jesus said, Judge not, that ye be not judged?

Lets follow that up.

Matthew 7:2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Jesus is telling us, we will be judged according to how we judge others. Even down to the level of measure we mete which means allot, it will be measured against us.

Here is the best part.

Matthew 7:3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Now we begin to understand what judgement is all about.

It is not about pointing out the mote which means straw in someone elses eye when we have a beam which is a stick of timber in our own eye. Simply meaning, we should not be quick to judge the faults of others, when we have bigger faults to deal with.

Doing so would be considered unrighteous judgment and something we should not be doing. That is why its so much better to take care of ourself, rather than worry about someone else.

Matthew 7:4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

This reminds me of the blind leading the blind, . If we cannot figure out our own problems, then we are in no position to judge other people, nor would we be able to help them as we cannot help ourselves.

Now we know why Jesus said, Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Final Thoughts On Tacos For Two

The faith element was faint but the reader will be reminded of how important it is to love those we consider enemies. Even better, theyll realize that the person we usually consider an enemy is a person just like us trying to live their lives as best as they know how.

Another theme that will come out, though its not stated, is the importance of not judging others. Rory did that a lot. She was quick to think the worst of Jude because of who she thought he was. As Christians, we ought to try to see people as Jesus does: individuals worthy of redemption and second chances.

Other themes in Tacos for Two were forgiveness and understanding ones identity.

JUDGING OTHERS – What Does the Bible Really Say | Bible Study With Me

The Bible does not say anything about judging KJV. The Bible is a book with 66 books in total, which are also called the Old Testament and New Testament. It was written by 40 authors over a span of 1,500 years before it was compiled and put into one volume.

This means that there were many different versions of scriptures during this time period, so it would be difficult to make any definitive statements about what the bible says on judging KJV without looking at all the other possible verses from other parts of scripture.

What Does It Mean To Judge Righteously

At the other end of the dont judge command is the exhortation to judge righteously. Jesus admonished the crowds and the leaders of Jerusalem during a Festival of Booths,

Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment. John 7:24 ESV

The scribes and Pharisees were angry because Christ had chosen to heal a man on the Sabbath but thought nothing of circumcising a child if the eight day fell on a Sabbath .

The word translated as righteous is the Greek word dÃkaios, meaning equitable by implication, innocent, holy , just. DÃkaios, is used in the Bible when referring to things approved of or acceptable of God.

To judge righteously, is to judge the way God does: not by appearances and having all the facts and knowing all the motives. I thought a lot about why we should not judge others as I read Tacos for Two. Rory had an image of who Jude was and interpreted every thing he did through her own biases.

A Hypothetical Scenario On Judging

Judging others by a standard we do not demonstrate ourselves is unrighteous judgment. A coworker who frequently engages in hard partying and promiscuous behavior has come into work late, again. He is hung over and you have been covering his responsibilities for about an hour now, making this the third time in the same month you have had to do extra work because of his late-night escapades. He walks up to you to resume his duties. He says, Thanks, I owe you one again!

Here are three ways you could handle this situation:

Option A: You say: That does it. You go out all the time getting drunk and sleep with half the women in the city, and then expect me to do your work for you? You make me sick! Its disgusting what you do. Im not covering for you anymore. You and I are DONE. If it were up to me, Id fire you right now.

Option B: You say: We have to talk. I dont feel comfortable covering for you anymore. Its not just about your coming in late to work, but also what is happening outside of work. Im worried about you. I dont want you to get fired or get yourself into personal troubles. Ill cover for you when it is a real emergency, but please dont ask me to do something against my conscience again. Do you understand where I am coming from?

Judge With Righteous Judgment

  • Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment .
  • Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life? .

So, judging is something a Christian is expected to do.

Why Should Not We Judge Others

Are we to judge others? Yes contrary to what many believers think. The ...

Heres the thing about judging others: we rarely get it right. Either we paint the person as worst than they are or better. Thats because as humans our view of things, including the character of someone, is limited. We dont know the full truth nor are we aware of every situation that plays into a persons actions.

Furthermore, everything we think about a person will be filtered through our own experiences. The only Person capable of being an impartial judge is God. Quite simply, we should not judge others because we ourselves are not without sin.
