Scriptures On Relationships: What Does The Bible Say

What does the Bible say about overcoming Anger Issues?

You may, for example, feel like youre never able to maintain close friendships and always feel on the periphery of groups of friends. Or, you may long to have a better relationship with your colleagues outside of work, but you find yourself always turning down invitations to socialize.

There are many reasons why you might be struggling to maintain healthy relationships:

  • pride
  • personal problems
  • addictions
  • difficulties with your family of origin

What Does The Bible Say About Neglecting Your Wife

  • 11 September

Is my husband neglecting me?

Women often wonder if theyre being neglected by their spouse, or if theyre just imaging things. Since women are often told theyre too sensitive or too emotional, it can be difficult to trust our instincts and recognize when a dynamic of our relationship isnt right. After all, we dont want to come across as needy, or anything else that has been deemed negative in our culture. But at the same time, we desire the love and respect that ideally should be shared between spouses.

Lack Of Commitment To The Marriage

Several years ago, in the midst of a midlife crisis, God impressed upon me that he had provided everything I need in my wife. Put into that perspectivethat your wife is a tremendous blessing from the Lord in every way. Knowing that, a man can pour his whole heart into committing to being all she needs him to be, too.

Worship With Your Money

If youâre not careful, it can be easy to place your hope in money. Money is something we can hold in our hands or look at in our bank account. We feel the weight of its absence or possess a sense of self-sufficiency when we have it in abundance. In Bible verses about putting your hope in money, youâre going to come across a ton of warnings:

  • âBe careful!â
  • âGuard your heart!â
  • âDonât be a fool with your money!â

When it comes to money, wealthy people are not the only ones who will be tempted to sin. Regardless of how much money you have, youâll be tempted to sin in different ways.

Instead of placing your hope in money or whatever generates income, place your hope in God. He owns everything, and he will provide you with what you need to live your life for him.

1 Samuel 2:7: “The LORD makes poor and makes rich he brings low and he exalts.â

A Husbandsshould Express Appreciation For Their Wives

Biblical Advice for an Unhappy Christian Marriage ...

Genesis 2:18 – It was not good for man to bealone, so God made woman to be a companion for him. A woman whofulfills her God-given role is good for a husband. She was created by God for that very purpose.

Proverbs 18:22 – He who finds a wife, finds a good thing andobtains favor of God. So let the husband say so.

Proverbs 12:4 – A worthy woman is the crown ofher husband. If so, then let the husband express appreciation forher.

1 Peter 3:7 – The husband should give honor tohis wife. Yet many husbands give much more criticism than theygive honor. How often do you deliberately say or do somethingintended to honor your wife? Is she supposed toconsider herself honored simply because it has been a while sinceyou insulted her?

Proverbs 31:28-31 – A worthy woman should be praised byher husband. Do you praise your wife when sheprepares a meal, cleans the house, cares for your children, orfulfills her responsibilities as a Christian? Or do you justcriticize when you think she fails?

A husband often gets a sense of fulfillment and accomplishmentfrom his work. He gets a regular paycheck and perhaps occasionalpromotions. But the wife works day in and day out at home withthe family. If the husband does not express appreciation, thewife should still find a sense of accomplishment in seeing herchildren develop and in knowing above all that God is pleased. But she has a much greater sense of security and being needed ifher husband tells her he appreciates what she does.

The Dangers In This Evil World That Will Damage Your Marriage If You Are Not Careful

Behold, we live in evil times and as such, we must keep watch at all times not to fall into the deadly tricks of the evil one. It is in this light that Christians are to avoid the worlds dangers and apply Gods wisdom to their marriages. Remember that in the paragraph before he gives explicit commands to wives and husbands, Apostle Paul gives these general commands: Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is . It is with this in mind that we are calling on you to note that the evil world presents many dangers that will damage your marriage if you are not careful.

1) Poor communication will damage your marriage Ephesians 4:15

2) Anger and abusive speech will damage your marriage James 1:19-20

3) Bitterness and lack of forgiveness will damage your marriage Ephesians 4:31-32

Acompromise And Overlook Differences Of Viewpoint Where Possible

1 Corinthians 13:4f – Love suffers long and is kind. Love isnot selfish.

Every couple will find in one another characteristics that wewould like to change but cannot. Sin must not be overlooked, butif there is no sin and the person just does things we don’tlike, then love will not push personal desires tothe point of alienation. Learn to overlook these matters withoutbitterness.

Romans 14 – Even some spiritual decisions are matters ofpersonal opinion, not matters of sin. If you cannot prove yourspouse has committed sin, do not imply he/she has been guilty.

James 3:14-18 Matthew 5:9 Romans 12:17-21 1 Peter 3:11 -Sincerely seek a peaceable resolution to the problem. We shouldwant the conflict to end, even if we have to give up our owndesires to achieve it.

In some matters, there may be give and take – compromise. Aslong as no Bible conviction is violated, seek a middle-groundsolution. “I’ll give in here, if you’ll give in there.”Or, “Let’s do it your way this time, and then next timewe’ll do it my way.”

Remember to consider ways you can become involvedand help your spouse do a job better, instead of just sittingback and criticizing. Perhaps, in some matter, you will end upeach going separate ways and doing separate things.

However, if one has been guilty of sin, then another approachmust be taken.

What Does The Bible Say About Letting Go Of The Past

The bible is the only tool we need to encourage ourselves as Christians. Through the power of the word, we quickly identify Gods purpose and plan.

Should we forgive those that have sinned against us? Will God forgive us for our sins if we do not forgive others?

A popular passage of the scriptures that will teach you how to let go is the story of the prodigal son. Here are three takeaways that will encourage you to move on

C Listen Toyour Spouse’s Viewpoint

A “discussion” requires both listening and talking. In practice, however, many spouses only want to express theirown views.

James 1:19 – Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man beswift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. Don’t enter thediscussion assuming the other person has no valid reasons for hisview. We should be quickly willing to listen, and slow to presentour views, especially when we are angry.

Suggestion: Begin the discussion by asking your spouseto explain his/her view. Do not begin by attacking theposition you assume they hold and defending your own view. Beginby asking questions honestly designed to help you understand whatthey think. “Could you explain to me why you did it that way…?””Have you considered doing it like this?”Maybe they have considered your idea and have some valid reasonsfor preferring another approach.

Do not dominate the discussion. Let the other person expresshis/her views. Do you appreciate it when others just attack yourviews but refuse to listen to what you have to say? “Loveyour neighbor as yourself,” and practice the golden rule .

Has God Ever Punished People With Sickness

The Bible reports a few occasions when God used sickness to punish people. For example, he caused some individuals to have leprosy. However, these isolated incidents were not indiscriminate pandemics that spread to innocent people. Rather, such events were specific judgments on individuals who had clearly rebelled against God.

Bible Verses About Contentment

Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

1 Timothy 6:6-12 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

2 Cor. 12:9-10And He has said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weaknessTherefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christs sake for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Alcohol And Drug Abuse Will Damage Your Marriage

I have seen Christian homes torn apart by alcohol and drug abuse. Many argue that alcoholism and drug addiction are diseases. That is partly, but not totally, correct. Both forms of abuse are sins, but they also have a physiological aspect. Once a person is addicted to a substance, his body craves it and he often will lie, steal, or worse to get that substance. To deny that alcohol and drug abuse are sins is wrong, because it absolves the person of responsibility for his actions. But no one ever became addicted to alcohol or drugs without choosing to take the first drink or first hit of a drug. The Bible condemns drunkenness as a sinful deed of the flesh . Acknowledging it to be sin is the first step to deliverance from it, since God is in the business of giving His people victory over sin.

Although the Bible allows drinking alcoholic beverages in moderation, it can be dangerous. If you turn to alcohol to relieve stress or escape from your problems, youre sinning, because youre not trusting the Lord for these things. Turning to alcohol or drugs is a sin that will damage your marriage.

Anger And Abusive Speech Will Damage Your Marriage

Sinful anger is always destructive to healthy relationships. James 1:19-20 cautions, But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. Paul commands , Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Then he adds , Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Proverbs 15:1 states, A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

All of those verses assume that you are able to control your anger if you choose to obey God. So the excuse, I just have a short fuse, wont cut it! In the first counseling scene in the Bible, the Lord asks Cain , Why are you angry? The Lord was not wondering about the answer to that question! He wanted Cain to examine his heart about the root cause of his anger. The root cause of all anger is selfishness: I want my way and I didnt get my way! When we get angry were not in submission to the sovereignty of God, who is in charge of all the frustrating and trying circumstances that come into our lives. In marriage, partners use anger to try to intimidate and control their mates. But it always creates distance in relationships and it is always destructive!

Do it. In fact, if you’re struggling with wanting to have sex, get married and have it a lot. Well, that’s basically what God is saying in 1 Cor 7:9: “If they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” OKaaaay!

What else does the bible say about having sex? It says a lot actually, and this book would be quite a bit bigger if we included all of it. However, we will cover some of the important basics.

Why Should We Seek A Relationship According To The Bible

For Gods glory and to carry out His will. To be conformed into the image of Christ. To marry and be a representation of Christ and the church. The advancement of Gods Kingdom. Its all about Him. Oh Lord may this relationship honor your name and this should be our mindset going into marriage. Oh Lord I want to love and lay down my life for someone just like you loved and laid down your life for me.

9. 1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

10. Romans 8:28-29 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

11. Revelation 21:9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven final plagues came and spoke to me, saying, Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb!

I am not saying that you cant enter into a relationship, but take this into consideration.

Are you able to leave your mother and father? Do you have any responsibilities or are your parents paying for everything? For men this is one of the things that tells you if youre ready to seek your wife. Are you able to live on your own and provide? Are you a man? Does society consider you a man?
