Are Tattoos A Sin In Catholicism
Tattoos are sinful because they are bodily mutilations against the Fifth Commandment. God made man to be without sin and to be perfect in soul and body tattoos are sins because they harm that perfection God intended. Our bodies belong to God, and tattoos are sins against Gods rights over our bodies.
Cremation Or Burialhow To Decide
When deciding how to dispose of a dead body, consider the following factors.
Local customs. These often have a bearing on how dead bodies are treated. For instance, in Bible times, people customarily buried the dead. Likewise today, a person may choose to deal with the remains of the deceased according to local customs as long as such customs do not conflict with Bible principles.
Legal requirements. The Bible encourages obedience to secular authorities. In some areas, the authorities enact laws about the treatment of dead bodies. For instance, in the case of cremation, some authorities place restrictions on where the ashes may be disposed of.
The feelings of others. The Scriptures encourage us to look out for the interests of others. When deciding how to deal with a dead persons remains, we might consider these questions: How do other family members feel about cremation or burial of the deceased? How does the local community view such customs?
The Body Is A Blessing

We will all die eventually so it makes sense that we each do the research and planning ahead of time. There are a variety of options to consider when we die so doing the proper research and planning years ahead will save your family the headache and stress. Where Did The Idea For Halos In Christian Art Come From
Im holding a copy of an ancient depiction of Jesus . In this depiction, Jesus hands are in the traditional posture of a teacher, according to the iconography of Eastern Christianity, and behind the head of Jesus is something that would be known as a halo.
Im no expert on ancient art or depictions of Jesus, but its my understanding that halos were used in art to identify either Jesus or saints. The halo was used so that everybody would know, when looking at the picture, that this is someone who was holy. A halo would indicate either Jesus or a saint. I dont know where that idea came from, other than that the artists who were making a painting or other depiction of biblical characters wanted it properly understood who the people were.
Now, you might say, Well, with Jesus, its easy, because everybody knows what Jesus looks like. By the way, we just put a video on the YouTube channel called White Jesus?. It was prompted by an examination of a book, given to me by my daughter, called Son of Man, which includes depictions of Jesus in a few different cultures. If youre interested in this idea of what Jesus looked like, and how He has been depicted in art, you can watch the video on our YouTube channel:

So In Summary What Does The Bible Say About Cremation
Therefore, cremation is an acceptable means of dealing with the dead. Cremation does not conflict with the Bible nor does it interfere with Gods ability to resurrect the dead.
Those who are considering cremation should also consider the impact of their decision on their survivors. For many people, a funeral and the ensuing interment is an opportunity to show one final act of love and respect for the deceased. Would cremation provide them with the sense of loving closure they need? Prior to making a decision to have ones remains cremated, we recommend that people discuss these matters with family members to be sure they are also comfortable with this decision.

Why Are More People Choosing Cremation
A common reason why more people are choosing cremation is to avoid the expenses related to funeral services and burial. A traditional funeral can often cost around $8,000 to $10,000 while the average cost of cremation is $1,500 to $2,500. Theres also the cost of digging a grave and purchasing funeral plots as well. Both run around $1,000 each.
A new growing trend developed in Italy is the Capusla Mundi project. The cost of these biodegradable urns is around $500. Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel have developed an organic, biodegradable burial capsule that will turn the deceaseds body into nutrients for a tree that will grow out of their remains. After being encapsulated in the fetal position, the deceased is buried and either a tree or tree seed is planted above their capsule. As of right now, the project is waiting to gain clearance of burial laws. If it is approved, the goal is to create memorial parks full of trees instead of tombstones.
Trees hold great symbolism and meaning across many different cultures. In many ways, a trees life cycle mirrors the human experience. God starts us from a seed in the womb. We grow from young and small to strong, tall, and firmly rooted in the ground of his Word. Eventually, we grow old and pass from this earth to heaven.
How Do Other Religions View Cremation
Christianity and Judaism discourage cremation and Islam prohibits it. Hinduism practices it and we saw this while on a missionary journey to India. In the seventies, while there, so many people were starving and dying on the streets of Bombay, that every morning the government would send out trucks to pick up the dead bodies and take them to a local place where they burned the dead bodies. How sad it was to see no dignity given the dead. The Roman Catholic Church discourages cremation as they believe the body is holy and should be treated with honor and respect and felt that cremation constituted a denial of the resurrection of the body.
We notice from all the above scriptures from the Bible that the reference is made to burying people, not a reference to burying bodies or corpses. They always talk of a persons name when mentioning burial. This being the case, the practice of burial has always been the biblical tradition and the church was united in this practice until the middle of the 19th century. There was an attitude that, not only was the passing of someone a solemn event that included stewardship of a persons body, but it also was to be a demonstration of the glory of God when a saint went home to be with the Lord.

Is God The Father Greater Than The Glorified Jesus
During Jesus earthly ministry, He declared that the Father was greater than Him. Does Jesus still declare that the Father is greater than Him, in His glorified state in Heaven?
This is a very interesting question. When Jesus was on the earth, He was in obvious submission to God the Father. Just those titles, Father and Son, imply some kind of hierarchy. We never want to think that this means that Jesus, as God the Son, is somehow less than God the Father. A difference in hierarchy doesnt mean a difference in nature or value or purpose not one bit. A company might have a CEO, who runs the whole thing, and somebody else who sweeps the parking lot. In mans eyes, one seems much greater and better than the other this person makes a lot more money and can hire and fire the other one. But in Gods eyes, concerning what those people actually are, both are human beings of equal value and worth before God. A persons value or status doesnt depend on where they are in a hierarchy.
So, during Jesuss earthly sojourn, His earthly pilgrimage, He lived His life as a Son submitted to His Father. In that sense, He could freely say that the Father was greater than Him. In His glorified state, we would still say that at least in some sense, the Son is still submitted to the Father. Now, we dont know every dimension of this. There are lines we could travel down, which would take us too far, and imply some kind of separation in the Godhead or the Trinity.
What Happens To Your Gold Teeth When You Are Cremated
At cremation temperatures, any gold in the teeth will be definitely melted. That means that any metals that get liquefied at those temperatures also get mixed in with the bone fragments. Those bone fragments are then processed, resulting in the final cremated remains or ashes that are then returned to the family.

Should Christians Be Cremated
The Bible doesnt give any specific instructions about cremation. Although there are instances in the Old Testament where people are burned to death and bones are burned , these are not examples of cremation.
Interestingly, 2 Kings 23:16-20 states that burning human bones on an altar was a desecration of the altar. However, it is not in the Old Testament that a cremated body of a human being should be burned or cursed.
Although cremation was common in biblical times, it was not practiced widely by New Testament believers or the Israelites. According to the Bible, burial was common in Bible cultures. It could be done in a cave, a grave, or in the ground. Although burial was a common practice, it is not the norm.
The Bible does not recommend burial as the only acceptable method of disposing of a body.
Can a Christian consider cremation? There is no specific commandment against cremation. Some Christians object to cremation because it doesnt recognize that God will one day resurrect our bodies and reunite them with our soul and spirit.
1 Corinthians 15:3558 But, just because a body is cremated doesnt make it more difficult for God to resurrect that corpse.
Christians who died over a thousand years ago are now completely dust. God will still be able to raise their bodies. God created them He will not have any difficulty in resurrecting them.
Cremation is nothing more than expedites the process of turning a persons body into dust. God can also raise a person.
Burial Was Typical In Old Testament
Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried after their death . Also, mentioned in this scripture is Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried after death. These are some examples of how the prophets and their families were treated after death. These scriptures do not appear to require a burial in death but they seem to imply that burial was the most common means of caring for the deceased during the times of the Old Testament.
As a result, burial was the traditions during the Old Testament times.

Burning Bodies Is Part Of Capital Punishment
In some instances, burning bodies isnt actually a burial rite, but rather a capital punishment. This was the case in Leviticus 20:14:
14 If a man marries a woman and her mother, it is wickedness. They shall be burned with fire, both he and they, that there may be no wickedness among you.
In Joshua 7:25, we read:
25 And Joshua said, Why have you troubled us? The LORD will trouble you this day. So all Israel stoned him with stones and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.
You might have heard about Achan, the man who hid treasures in his tent after God forbade the Israelites not to do so.
As a result, Joshua and His men were defeated by the soldiers of Ai. Eventually, Joshua knew Achan caused the defeat of Israel by taking the accursed things.
Yahweh, Himself, commanded that the culprit, along with all that he has, would be burned .
We also read Jeremiah 49:2 :
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.
In some translations, the daughters in this verse are translated as villages. Whether this refers to actual people or the village, we can see that burning bodies is part of Gods punishment.
These are the three things the Bible says about cremation. Now, lets go to another important question.
