What Is The Greatest Promise In The Bible

Knowing And Practicing The Bible

The Greatest Promise in the Bible | Dr. David Jeremiah

I. Prophetic Hope for the Ages

The Bible points to a better day ahead. Paul calls this the hope of glory. In Colossians, he writes:

Colossians 1:27 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

These riches in glory are the promises of God for a better future. That future is described in Revelation 21:

Ultimately, for the believer, God will right all wrongs. When will this occur?

Well, the simple answer is at the end of the age. The age involved is the current age of grace, the Church age. When the fullness of the Gentiles is complete God will commence the next step in His plan.

The rapture of the church

The next step in Gods prophetic calendar is the rapture of the church. This is the catching up of the universal body of believers into the sky to forever be with Jesus. Christ returns to remove the church before the great and final Tribulation and wrath that will result in the restoration of Israel and the judgment of the nations.

The restoration of Israel is foreseen in Daniels prophecy of seventy weeks of Jewish history. These weeks are periods of seven years each and the last week lies in the future. Daniels verses provide the timeframe of history.

1 Thessalonians 5:2 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.

The restoration of Israel
The judgment of the nations

Eight Promises Of God In The New Testament

Matthew: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

As life goes on, we forget our foundation as the people of God. Sometimes we begin to place other things before the Lord, and this verse is a perfect reminder of his promise if we put him first in all things.

Seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness will open the door to all other needs in this world. Financial needs, relationships, and even small details that can be overlooked.

John: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”

This promise is in the context of salvation. If you believe and receive Jesus, he will give you the power to become a child of God. You don’t need to work for your salvation its a gift from God when we simply believe in him.

Romans: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Sometimes life doesn’t turn out the way we thought it would. At times, circumstances outside of our control enter our life and put us in a place of struggle or pain. Even bad things happen to the people of God, but Paul wrote “all things work together for good.” whatever the enemy meant for evil, Gods love and power are enough to turn around for good.

2 Corinthians: “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.”

Gods Promise 9wisdom & Guidance

Most Christians would agree when I say: Its difficult to live according to the Word of God. Doing what the flesh wants to do is easy. But, going against the flow of our sinful nature is a hard pill to swallow. Give in to peer pressure is easy. But, standing up for what we believe in will give us countless enemies. And last, but certainly not least: Trying to maintain our faith in a world that is increasingly becoming ungodly, is incredibly challenging this is especially true for young people. Therefore, we need Gods wisdom and guidance in our lives. We need Him to show us the way, so that we may walk on His path. Fortunately, His wisdom and guidance are available if we seek His face. Yes, our all-knowing and powerful God promised to guide all His followers. Here are what the Scripture says:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. | James 1:5Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. | Ephesians 5:15-17The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction. | Proverbs 1:7For the Lord gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. | Proverbs 2:6I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. | Psalm 32:8

Gods Promise 1answer Our Prayers

Many Christians could attest to the fact that having your prayers answered is not something that happens overnight. Its a process of praying according to Gods will and persevere until we get results. As a consequence, many people become discouraged they stop praying and give up. No, friends! Dont let us become disheartened or lose faith, because IT IS WRITTEN that God our Father who sits on the most-high throne will listen to our cries and answer according to what He thinks is best for us. Thats the key thing that many of us forget: God will do what He finds best, and not what we think should happen. After all, He is God right? Are we as mortal creatures wiser than our immortal Creator? I want to encourage you to never stop praying, hoping and waiting. God will answer in His due time and according to His will. Without further ado, here are 5 well-known scriptures affirming that God do indeed answer prayers:

John Bunyan And Promise

The Greatest Promise in the Bible

JOHN BUNYAN, the 16th century British preacher, man of god, and author of The Pilgrims Progress wrote: The pathway of life is strewn so thickly with the promises of GOD, that it is impossible to take one step without treading upon one of them.

The actual word PROMISE, is used about 50 times in the bible, howeverestimates of actual promises of God, in the Bible, are over 30,000.

For instance: in Genesis, God said to Adam, In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground, for out if it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

The word PROMISE isnt used here, OR needed, for us to KNOW that this is a promise GOD made, and this is a promise made to Adam, and to his generations. still in effect today.

2 Peter 3:9 says:

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

We we have OBTAINED like precious faith WE ARE GIVEN EXCEEDING GREAT & PRECIOUS PROMISES!

When Our Burdens Weary Us God Promises Spiritual Rest

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Jesus, I come to you and lay my burdens at your feet. Thank you for your love and compassion for me. Teach me to walk with you, Lord, so that I will find rest for my soul. I want to abide in You today.

The Promise Of Pardon

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2

The promise of pardon removes the guilt and shame that can weigh you down and crush you. You make and break promises to God, struggling with sin that you should have conquered long ago. Too many Christians feel condemnation because of sin after following Jesus. God doesnt love you because youre good. God loves you because youre His. Proclaim this promise of pardon over yourself.

The Only Sin For Which There Is No Forgiveness Is The Sin For Which Forgiveness Isnt Sought

People have come to think that Jesus promise was qualified, and that he didnt really mean what he said. Not every sin can be forgiven, because there is one sin for which there is no forgiveness. Its a shame that people think this way. Im talking about what people refer to as the unpardonable sin, although that term doesnt actually appear anywhere in the Bible.

Notice verse 30. It says that Jesus said what he said because the people were saying that he had an evil spirit. The people were attributing Jesus works to the devil. Jesus was warning people about the danger of not acknowledging the work of God. And he had just told them that the work of God is to forgive sin all sin.

A person who doesnt acknowledge God as being the Great Forgiver will never come to God for forgiveness. The only sin for which there is no forgiveness is the sin for which forgiveness is not sought from God. And thats it.

Jesus wasnt nullifying or qualifying his promise. He was making it even more glorious. God is willing to forgive your sin: every and all sin, no matter how terrible it may be.

If you hold on to these words of Christ as the greatest promise in your life, you will find in the end, that every word was true. And you will enter into the joy of heaven.

The Purpose Of Gods Promises

The Greatest Promise in the Bible · H.B. Charles Jr.

Lets read 2 Peter 1:4-5:

Seeing that His divine power has granted to us all things which relate to life and godliness, through the full knowledge of Him who has called us by His own grace and virtue, through which He has granted to us precious and exceedingly great promises that through these you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption which is in the world by lust.

The context of these verses tells us that the precious and exceedingly great promises Peter speaks of arent related to prosperity or a trouble-free life. And they arent for something in the far-off future, nor are they for after we die. Theyre related to something profound that we can enjoy here and now.

The verses tell us God gave us such promises so that through them we can partake of the divine nature of God today. No wonder Peter calls them precious and exceedingly great. The fact that we human beings can partake of the divine nature of God is tremendous!

To partake of something means to take it into us and experience it. Just as we partake of food daily, we can partake of Gods divine nature through His precious and exceedingly great promises. As we partake of His nature, something happens in us: we begin to express God.

Note 2 of verse 2 Peter 1:4 in the New Testament Recovery Version says:

Now, lets take a look at just the first four passages listed in this note to get a taste of these promises.

When We Feel We Cant Handle Things Any Longer God Promises Sufficient Grace

But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christs power may rest on me.

Lord, I feel like I cant go on one more day, but you say your grace will enable me. Show your strength in my weakness. Lord, I confess Id rather not go through these difficulties, but I trust your all-sufficient grace and power to get me through. Help me believe You are all I really need today.

John : 57as The Living Father Has Sent Me And I Live Because Of The Father So He Who Eats Me He Also Shall Live Because Of Me

In John 6, the Lord Jesus presents Himself as the living bread from heaven for us to eat. Note 1 on verse 57 explains what eats Me means:

To eat is to take food into us that it may be assimilated organically into our body. Hence, to eat the Lord Jesus is to receive Him into us that He may be assimilated by the regenerated new man in the way of life. Then we live by Him whom we have received. It is by this that He, the resurrected One, lives in us .

We live physically by the food we eat. In the same way, we live spiritually by eating Jesus as our food in the Word of God. According to this promise in John 6, if we eat the Lord Jesus in His Word, well live by Him and Hell be lived out of us. This is how we live the Christian life its not by striving with our own energy but by taking in the nourishing supply of Christ as the bread of life.

Rather than feeling deficient and that were still lacking something vital in our Christian faith, Peter reminds us that we already have everything we need for a victorious Christian life. The key is the promises. As we take hold of the promises in Scripture, it changes the way we see the world and approach life. If you can change the way you think, you can change the way you live.
