Bible Verses About Listening

When God Speaks | Bible Verses For Quiet Time | Restore With God’s Word

Listening is a very important concept in the Bible. We are commanded to listen to Gods instructions. The Bible also teaches us to love others and listening to them is a way that we communicate love.

Quotes

Taking the time to listen to truly listen to someone can truly communicate our love and respect even more than out spoken words.

If a person feels the need to tell you the same story countless times, there is a reason. It is either important to their heart or they feel it is important for you to know. Be kind, be attentive, be patient and perhaps you will be the one God uses to help them move past where they are stuck.

Lead by listening to be a good leader you have to be a great listener.

Listen and silent are spelled with the same letters. Think about it.

God speaks to those who take time to listen, and He listens to those who take time to pray.

Prayer at its highest is a two-way conversation and for me the most important part is listening to Gods replies. Frank Laubach

The importance of listening

Repeatedly in Scripture we see commands to listen. Far too often we get preoccupied with our lives and our stressors and we fail to see what God is trying to teach us. Here are a few examples of times that people were commanded to stop and listen in the Bible.

1) Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.

Listening is an act of love

When God Speaks To Job

by Carla Alvarez | Dec 14, 2021 | Bible Study |

Job 38:1 sn This is the culmination of it all, the revelation of the Lord to Job. Most interpreters see here the style and content of the author of the book, a return to the beginning of the book. Here the Lord speaks to Job and displays his sovereign power and glory. Job has lived through the sufferingwithout cursing God. He has held to his integrity, and nowhere regretted it. But he was unaware of the real reason for the suffering, and will remain unaware throughout these speeches. God intervenes to resolve the spiritual issues that surfaced. Job was not punished for sin. And Jobs suffering had not cut him off from God. In the end the point is that Job cannot have the knowledge to make the assessments he made. It is wiser to bow in submission and adoration of God than to try to judge him. The first speech of God has these sections: the challenge , the surpassing mysteries of earth and sky beyond Jobs understanding , and the mysteries of animal and bird life that surpassed his understanding .

Does The Universe Talk

Matthew T. Fisher, Reno Buddhist Center resident priest

Buddhism is a non-theistic world view, so this is not a central question. But we can ask if the Light of the universe can be heard? After the Buddha was enlightened he described a vibrant scene more beautiful than any he had ever seen. He called this being awake, deeply hearing the world around him. All sentient beings can reach this state, but we are limited by biases and narrow habits of thought. This deep hearing of the light is joyous appreciation of the wondrous gifts the universe offers. Does the universe talk? Only if we listen.

Conversations do happen. Just after the Buddha was enlightened, the highest of Hindu gods, Brahma, encouraged Buddha to go forth and teach. Though Buddha was reluctant, he was swayed by Brahmas request. And sutras recount many gods listening with interest to the Buddhas important discourses like the Lotus Sutra.

Faith Forum: Does God Speak Directly To Humans

According to an Associated Press story, Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte recently said while flying home he was looking at the sky while everyone was sound asleep, and he heard a voice that said, If you don’t stop epithets, I will bring this plane down now.

And I said, Who is this? So, of course, it’s God, said Duterte.

Duterte, who is Roman Catholic, says he has promised to God he won’t spew expletives again.

Many have claimed God spoke to them directly. Seeing something or hearing voices while alone which others cannot see or hear is reportedly quite common. A Gallup 1999 analysis reportedly said 23 percent of all Americans have heard a voice or seen a vision.

Does God speak to humans directly or through messengers/deities/angels/saints/inspired-persons/ sages/intermediaries/representatives? Or does he speak through scriptures or in dreams or through visions or is there another channel of communication? Does God appear in a physical form or do human beings only hear the voice of God? Or maybe God does not communicate at all?

Does God still need to talk to us directly since God is said to have already delivered to us divine scriptures with Gods complete message?

What can be the best way for God to communicate with the humans?

We asked our panel of distinguished religious leaders of the region the following question: Does God speak directly to humans?

Here is what they have to say:

Did You Know God Speaks To Us Through The Bible

1. Did you know God speaks to us through the Bible?

The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God’s acts in history.

What Does The Bible Say About Hearing Gods Voice

Hearing the voice of God implies two different actions have to happen. The first of those is God has to be speaking. We serve a living God who is always speaking to us, through creation, through his holy bible, through his spirit. Hearing his voice requires, first, that he is speaking to us and second that we are listening. There are several bible verses about hearing God speak that encourage us that we need not worry about whether he is talking to us.

Why Is It So Important To Read The Bible To Hear From God

Scripture is Gods complete revelation of Himself and serves as the final authority by which all things are judged. The Bible is the primary way God speaks to us, and Jesus gives a fervent warning to be on guard against false prophets . Christians must have discernment.

Scripture must be handled correctly , and anyone who teaches Gods Word is held to a higher standard . Intentional or not, some pastors and Sunday school teachers are false prophets because they deviate from the teachings of Scripture. Therefore, an immature believer should never make the mistake of dependence on a teacher as their sole means of knowledge about God. Gods Word is the only perfect source of godly things for our edification and training . All teachers, no matter how well studied they may be, are still imperfect people, and they, just as everyone else, sit under the authority of Scripture. Their teaching is only authoritative if it adheres to Scripture. God gifts people to teach to the Church Body to clarify the meaning and application of His Word, however, they are to merely assist, not take the place of Scripture.

Do You Want To Hear God Speak

John Calvin Quote: âWhen the Bible speaks, God speaks ...

Lets begin with a question? Do you want to hear God speak? Have you ever said in a moment of desperation, O God, if you would only speak! If I could only hear your voice. If you would only talk to me and not be so silent! I have said those words. And I have found the Lord patient with me and tender in his rebukes. One of the rebukes I have heard is found in Hebrews 1:12. What these two verses teach very loudly and plainly is that God is not silent. God is not withdrawn and uncommunicative.

They teach us that God has spoken in two phases: before the coming of the Son of God into the world and through the Son of Gods coming into the world. Read them again: God, after he spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in his Son. Consider these two phases of Gods communication for a moment.

Before the coming of the Son it says God spoke in the prophets in many portions and in many ways. Notice three crucial things.

What Does It Mean To Hear From God

When you hear from God you are listening to him. Now I know that is a very duh explanation but hear me out. Oftentimes as Christians both new and old, we go through things that leave us wondering if God hears our prayers. It can be hard to distinguish his voice from the noise around us and we question whether He is listening.

Hearing from god requires us to be listening. Listening means we are actively making our quiet time with him a dialogue instead of a monologue. Its a dynamic conversation between a loving God and his doted on child.

If this sort of communication with God seems foreign you may be asking How is prayer a conversation? Ive been asking God for answers, help, direction, and it seems like all I am getting is a busy tone.

I used to feel exactly that way.

I know what it is like to be sure of Gods existence, to know what things should be like, but to doubt your connection to God because you cant hear God clearly. I know what it means to feel like he is ignoring you.

This. Is. Not. True.

God Speaks To Us Through His Spirit:

Online Bible Study | “When God Speaks” Job 33:14 NIV

Just as Jesus was coming out up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: You are my Son, whom I love with you I am well-pleased. At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan.

John 6:63 The Spirit gives life the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you they are full of the Spirit and life.

Hebrews 10:15-16 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First, he says: This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.

Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Bible Verses To Help You Hear Gods Voice

Scripture shows the way in learning to listen.

by Rick HamlinPosted in Bible Verses About Faith, Sep 14, 2020

Our family was on a late-summer hike along the Appalachian Trail, going up and down through the woods, treading carefully over the rocksat least I wasand chatting the whole while, enjoying each others company.

Then my nephew Kirk said, Lets be silent for a while. Spread out a bit and just walk.

Good idea, we said. We spread out along the trail so that you could only see one person ahead through the trees, and we hiked in silence. Afternoon light shimmered through the branches, dry leaves crunched underfoot, a marmot darted along the path. What a difference it made.

When I was a kid in Sunday school it baffled me how people in the Bible heard God speak to them. How? I wondered. This seemed to be a good example. Gods creation was speaking loud and clear. We just needed to get silent for a while. Here are some Bible verses to help you hear Gods voice.

1) Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.

In an age of texts, emails, minute-by-minute news updates, its so easy to forget the importance of being still. Not for nothing do I leave my phone in the other room when I sit on the sofa each morning to get still with God.

2) If one gives answer before hearing, it is folly and shame.

3) My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me.

5) So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ
