Black Feather Meaning In The Bible: What Does The Holy Bible Say

What does holy mean? | What’s in the Bible? | DVD 3

The feather has been used in many cultures for centuries as a symbol of something that is thought to be spiritual. The feather meaning can represent our souls or the power that comes from the sky. Black feathers are often seen in Judeo-Christian symbolism, but what does this mean? In this blog post, we will explore all of the meanings behind the black feather meaning in the bible!

  • The symbolism of the black feather in the bible
  • Our Father Who Art In Heaven

How often in a group setting have we spoken the Lords prayer in that way? Too often, maybe? I wonder how it strikes the Lords ears and his heart.

Please do not misunderstand, I am not at all trying to point a finger or to condemn memorized prayers. I often recite many of the Psalms from memory Psalm 23 in its entirety, 103:1-4, and 63:1-2, just as an example.

And I recite the Lords Prayer, as well. In doing so, I absolutely admit there are times when the words are simply reiterated, but not felt in my heart or even thought about. I get distracted saying the words but not feeling the meaning. I dare say, it is human nature and happens to all of us.

There is one word, in particular, we seem to fly over, even when we are praying from the heart. We seem to speak it, but not give serious thought. That word is hallowed. Hallowed be thy name. Hallowed be your name, Lord. Glorious be your name, our Father in heaven.

I am pretty sure that, when we do think about it, we all understand what we are saying there. Glory to your name, Lord. Let your name be holy sanctified. Let your name be worshiped and glorified. Bless the Lord oh my soul and worship his holy name.

But, how much deeper is the meaning of hallowed? And isnt Gods name already hallowed?

    What Is The Lords Prayer

We all know the Lords Prayer. Im certain even many non-believers could recite the words. But do we know what we are saying? We hear it, we say it, so many times that we dont even think about it. Kind of like the air we breathe or even the ground under our feet.

It is what happens when we pray by rote sometimes we run the risk of the words becoming robotic rather than meaningful. The prayer is spoken, but is it understood and heartfelt?

    The Greek Word For Holiness

The Greek word used for holy or holiness is hagios and means much the same thing that the Old Testament word godesh means, which is pure, morally blameless or set apart as in set apart for holy use, which is what the saints of God have been called to. The word holy is found in the New Testament 180 times and if you used holiness, then its almost 200 times that holy or holiness is used. It is obvious from the Scriptures that holiness is important to God and that we should regard Him as holy. So how is holy used in context? It is used in much the same way in the Old Testament as it is in the New Testament.

    For Whom Are We Praying

What Does The Word Holy Mean? Bible Definition of Holy ...

So the big question remaining is, For whom are we praying when we pray, “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name”? Whose heart are we asking God to change when we pray, “Father, cause their heart to believe you and fear you and obey you and glorify you”? If we take our clue from the next two requests in the Lord’s prayer, I think we will hear two answers.

Ourselves and the Unreached Peoples of Earth

One answer is that we are praying for ourselves. The other answer is that we are praying for the spread of the gospel to the unreached peoples of the earth.

After teaching us to pray that God’s name be hallowed, Jesus teaches us to pray, “God’s kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Each of these requests has a personal and a worldwide dimension.

    The Personal Dimension

For example in Matthew 6:33 Jesus commands us to seek God’s kingdom first rather than seeking food and clothing. In other words, we are to seek to let God be the Ruler and King in our lives now. His kingdom is a present reality wherever he rules as King.

So when we pray, “Father, let your kingdom come,” we should mean, “Father, rule in my life. Be my king. Get the victory over my anxiety about life’s necessities.” This is the personal dimension of the coming of the kingdom.

    The Worldwide Dimension

“Thy Will Be Done on Earth as It Is in Heaven”

The same thing turns up when we focus on the third request in the Lord’s prayer: “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

    Does Hallowed Mean Blessed

To hallow is to bless, consecrate, or render holy by means of religious rites, especially significant religious places or the relics of saints. As a noun, hallow means saint. The word for our popular holiday Halloween is a shortened form of All Hallows Eve, or All Saints Eve, which precedes All Saints Day.

Now What Does Halloween Have To Do With Hallow And Do Catholics Celebrate Halloween

Most Catholics and our Protestant brothers and sisters in Christ who think Halloween is evil are well meaning, but they may not fully understand what this day is actually about, and Im going to clear that up for you.

In the Catholic faith, the feast of All Saints is celebrated on November 1, and the feast of All Souls is celebrated on November 2. The word Saint means those who are in heaven with God, so they are holy people. The day before a day is called the eve So the day before the day that celebrates all the Saints, or the holy or hallowed people, is All Hallows Eve, which got mushed together into Halloween.

Are there people using Halloween for evil? Im sure that there are, just as there are people using pretty much any and every day for evil. Almost anything can be used for good or for evil. Satan himself quoted the Bible to Jesus when we was trying to temp him in the desert. That doesnt mean that quoting the Bible is evil, but just an example of how anything can be used for bad.

The Catholic Church is actually known for placing important feast days intentionally on top of pagan days and festivals. Why? To steal their thunder in the name of Jesus. And you know what? It works.

So dont let the people in Louisiana with the beads take Mardi Gras from you! And dont let the beer drinking leprechauns take St. Patricks day from you! And dont let them take your All Saints Day either.

The Symbolism Of The Black Feather In The Bible

In this case, a black feather represents something that comes from God. It symbolizes his strength and power being bestowed upon someone or some people. We have seen this used especially during wartime depicted by angel wings coming down to protect soldiers going into battle.

Black feathers can also be seen as a state of mourning with one side having a white design on it- a sign of balance between good and evil forces which are at constant war within us all! This feather means so much more than just sadness though because we have been given these dark angels inside our soul for protection against negative energy like fear, anger, hate

When we see a black feather, it should remind us of the power that God has to help us through any situation in our lives! It is a sign that he is with us and wants us to know that we are not alone. No matter what might be happening, remember that you have a powerful ally in Him.

Many people believe that feathers are a sign of Gods presence, but some say this is not true. They claim that there are no instances in the Bible where an angel left behind their wings or his feather to show they were present for something important happening at that time nor any stories about prophets being shown divine messages through these signs . All meaning comes from context and personal spiritual experience therefore each user must evaluate what he/she believes based on those two things alone!

Which Religions Do Not Celebrate Halloween

    • Jehovahs Witnesses. They dont celebrate any holidays or even birthdays.
    • Some Christians: Some believe that Halloween is linked with Satanism or Paganism, so they dont celebrate it.
    • Orthodox Jews: They do not celebrate Halloween because of its origins as a Christian holiday. Other Jews may or may not celebrate.

Let Us Glorify Gods Holy Name

Thus, we are clearly not wrong to glorify Gods holy name. Unmistakably, that name is holy–set apart above all others. His name is to be worshipped by his creation above all other gods and authorities, as the one, true God. Yahweh.

In his book, The Unseen Realm, Michael Heiser makes a very strong case that there are indeed other, lesser, elohim in the spiritual world, who are below God. .

Our Father is the King of Kings Lord of Lords Lord of Hosts. But whether Heiser is correct or not, and I believe he is, this only serves to magnify the importance of Gods name being hallowed–holy and set apart above all others. By each of us.

Indeed, I believe that Jesus was teaching us that we must not take Gods name lightly. He is not the man upstairs or the big guy. He is, always has been, and always will be the Most High God El-Shaddai, Jehovah, Adonai. The great I AM.

But I think there is something more that we may be missing.

    What Is In A Name

Christianity: Christianity : The Bible, The Holy Trinity ...

What does hallowed be thy name mean? I believe that it isnt just Gods actual name that Jesus referred to–as I have pointed out, God has many names. Which of those are we to hallow? I believe it is God himself we are to glorify. It is who God is that we are to glorify. His character. His attributes. Those are what Gods name represents.

Here in the physical world, we each at some point in our lives want to make a name for ourselves. When I was growing up, my dad always encouraged me to go out there and do something great. Make a name for yourself.

Even now, when you hear someones name–do we really think of it only as a name, or do we relate it to who and what they are? If I say “Mother Theresa”, what comes to your mind? We each certainly conjure up more than her image.

We even use her name as a description of others. On the flip side, the same thing with any number of other historical and fictional characters. Billy Graham. Albert Einstein, Superman, and even Darth Vader. Every president who lived in our respective lifetimes. Jesus Christ. Each has an associated reputation or standing–a name.

Matthew wrote the words of Jesus teaching us to pray in chapter 6, verses 9-13. This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

What Does It Mean To Be Holy

According to Merriam Webster, to be holy is to be, exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness. There is an aspect of perfection and worthiness involved, and each time we think of Gods name as hallowed, it should bring us to consider his greatness and his majesty. It is also hard to think of the word holy without also thinking the word whole, which sounds very similar. Being holy means to be completely perfect and completely whole, in need of nothing.

Lets take a look at some other surprising places where this unusual word is found that you may have not noticed it before.

It is often used as a greeting, and when you say “bless him” to someone, it means that you wish him the best and positive things.

What Does Hallowed Mean In The Bible

ANSWER: The prayer in the Bible, commonly known as “Our Father,” contains the phrase: Hallowed be thy name, but what does “holy” mean? The American Heritage Dictionary defines the sacred as a hallowed and highly respected saint, similar to the hallowed halls of a major university. To heal is to sanctify or set aside.

Why Is The Word Hallowed Used Where It Is

What does the word Holy mean? (for the Bible)

Hallowed is used commonly in the Old Testament. The reason for this is linked to the culture in which the Israelites lived, and the Hebrew language they spoke. The Hebrew words miqdash and qadash both refer to make something, or someone, hallowed. Miqdash means a sanctuary of deity and qadash is used when speaking of becoming clean. Another Hebrew word, quadesh, speaks of a sacred place or thing.

The first few books of the Bible introduce us to a holy God and give instructions to the Israelites on how to build the tabernacle, how to live, and how to sacrifice. So, it makes sense that Hebrew words referring to hallowed were used.

The New Testament was written in Greek and hallowed was only used in the Lords Prayer. Matthew 6:9 says, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Here we find Jesus teaching about prayer in what is known as the Sermon on the Mount. I believe He is harkening back to the ten commandments and what God said about himself. God said He was the Lord your God and there were to be no other gods before him. When we pray, we are to give God the reverence and praise He deserves before all other requests.

    The Hebrew Word For Holiness

If you think God is concerned with His holiness in the Old Testament, consider the fact that holy is mentioned 431 times, not counting the word holiness. The Hebrew word for holy is qodesh which means apartness, sacredness, or separateness showing that God is altogether holy, sacred, set apart or separate from His creation. The idea is that God is totally different from us as He is spirit and desires those who worship Him do so in spirit and in truth .
