How To Listen To The Bible App

Ancient Near-Eastern societies were hearing dominant. They didnt have much that compares to books and authors like we do today. Instead, all information was shared orally. Traditions and stories were passed on, generation by generation, through word of mouth. This may seem incredibly impressivebut, think about how many songs you know the words to, without ever seeing them written down. If you hear something enough times, youre sure to remember it.

In our days of writing and reading, authority is often found in books and authors. But, in hearing-dominant societies, authority remains in tradition and community. We can see this play out even after Jesus leaves. The Gospels werent written immediately after the ascension. Instead, for years the disciples shared the good news by word-of-mouth. The stories of Jesus life belonged to the Christian community and were preserved by their constant re-hashing of events.

There are many important reasons for us to have Scripture written down. But, when you listen to the Bible read aloud, you are participating in an ancient tradition. Its neat to step back, close your eyes, and hear Gods Word spoken over you like Christians and Jews experiences for centuries.

Youversion Bible App Best Audio Bible Apps For Android With Social Networking

If you only downloaded one Bible app on your phone or tablet, it likely came from Life.church. Life.church brags millions of downloads and often shows up in the list of top apps on iOS and Android.

The church created the Bible app years ago and keeps developing it and improving it. The app excels as a basic Bible reader app with an elegant user interface. It primarily serves as a Bible reading app but adds audio Bible listening and does it well.

I include it here because of its great social networking features. Share Bible verses in a visual way. If your friends post pretty photos with Bible verses imposed over the top of them, the share likely came from the Bible app.

To use the audio Bible features, open in the Bib reader and youll see a small audio icon in the top toolbar second from the right. Tap it to show the Bible reader pop up as seen in the left screenshot above. You can play from the current location in the Bible shown in the reader window. The fast forward and rewind buttons go forward or back by a chapter.

The settings at the bottom of the pop-up window control the speed and set a timer for how long the app will read the Bible. Theres also a button to hide the controls. If you do, then youll see the screen on the right which shows you smaller rewind, play, and forward buttons. They function the same way as the larger pop-up window.

Engage More With Audio Bibles

Often, the sweetest moments of being a child of God are found in intentional silence, quietly reading or writing. It is definitely important to find this quiet alone time, where we can humbly meet with God.

However, if you have kids, a job, or the need to go buy groceries once in awhile, then you know this quiet alone time can be hard to attain.

But audio Bibles can help fill in the gaps.

Say you only have 40 minutes left before you need to get the kids ready for bed. You havent exercised or read the Bible today. Instead of feeling torn between two healthy activities, combine them. Listen to an audio Bible while you run, taking care of both your soul and your body.

You can also get creative. Think of activities you do during the day that require your hands and eyes, but your ears are free to listen. What about:

  • driving
  • getting ready in the morning

Youre sure to think of many other opportunities to listen to Gods Word.

Lastly, we wouldnt recommend that you replace intentional quiet time with this multi-tasking-Bible-listening. Like we said before, audio Bibles can help fill in the gaps. They can help you engage more. Find ways to use them throughout the day to get an extra dose of Gods Word that you couldnt have before.

Phenomenal App Except This 305 Version

YouVersion Bible App + Audio, Daily Verse, Ad Free for ...

This app is phenomenal and has gotten me so much further in the Bible than I have ever gotten before just in the past 2-3 weeks. I am not much of a reader and when I try to read, I fall asleep, and I wanna continue to dive deep into the Word, and these dramatized audio books help me to do just that. Everything was going well with the simple layout and pretty quick Bible book downloads for offline usage as well. However, when this new update came out and I updated the app, it deleted all of my downloads and now I had to make an account. Also it takes 3 times as long to download all the books and chapters and the app keep glitching where if I pause in the middle of a chapter, any of them, and maybe go to another app, and then come back to it, even a few seconds later, it buffers FOREVER. It doesnt play until I use the skip button to go either forward or backward and then back to where I was. Also, every time I close the app, I have to log back in instead of it just automatically having me logged in. Its a bit too many downfalls for a bunch of extra stuff. And the new layout unfortunately is not as good as the old one. The old one was simpler and easier to utilize and faster. This one is a lot slower and has more defects unfortunately. Thats for version 3.0.5 by the way. Its currently April 22,2020. I downloaded the app about a month ago or so.

The Free Audio Bible App Youve Been Looking For

Ive been wanting for years to read the Bible straight through. In fact, I even bought a daily reading Bible that would help me go through the entire thing in 365 days.

And I have no idea whybut I just cant do it. Sitting down to actually read is just becoming a harder thing to do.

Daily Audio Bible is an amazing website that walks through the Bible for you.

My favorite things about this free audio Bible app:

  • You can listen to the Bible either as is or you can listen to it in chronological order.
  • Every day they give a personal introduction from the host with a short recap of yesterdays readingits pretty much like a podcast, which I LOVE!
  • It is still a commitment of 30-45 minutes a day, but in one year you can read through the entire Bible.
  • You can injest the Word of God consciously or sub-counsciously by listening as you go about your day. Brilliant!

If you dont want no fancy app, audiobooks provide another easy option for listening to the Word of God. You can load them on your phone, or just get them on CDs to play in the car. There are many options available and your choice is going to depend on what translation of the Bible you want to listen to.

But my pick for best audiobook Bible is the ESV Hear the Word Audio Bible. Ive listened to this one so many times that the narrator, David Heath, is the voice I hear in my head when I read the Bible.

You can pick up this audio Bible on or Christian Audio. Or you can get it free with a 30-day trial of audible.

It Works When We Work

Guide for spiritual growth and manifestation of love, our real purpose is in us and it will wake you up as you start tapping into your relationship with our creator. The truth will set you free but it can only be seen when you surrender and give in with all your heart. We are here to light up our spirits and not the flesh as it will die and your spirit belongs to your creator but its your choice to get to know the truth, your flesh is dying everyday. Each day you live is a chance to know our creator with all our heart, Pray and speak no matter how long it takes for the answer, he is for you not against you, he knows all your sins but he cares more for your heart and your peace but its your free will to desire that for yourself and you do that by feeding your soul the word of truth, it will set you free and you will see your life on a different lense. It took me 35 years to figure out the truth. When you wake up dont be afraid, keep praying, keep seeking him and you will rest. He loves you, he is with all of us waiting for us to reach out, we only get what we understand and when we dont understand we ask for wisdom to understand the things the flesh mind doesnt but I know now that our spirit does! Keep reading the word till he speaks to you even when you dont understand it. Your spirit will understand and only you can do that. No one can do it for us, it is our free will. Live for your spirit not for your sinful desires on this earth.

Our Criteria For The Best Bible App

In order to pick the best Bible app for iOS, the following criteria were used.

  • Design: Does the app follow current iOS design standards? Does it provide a great experience from initial launch, reading, and displaying any extras it provides?
  • Ease of Use: When it comes to apps that are used for reference and study, its easy to be heavy on features and material while being near impossible to figure out the basics. Does it provide an easy way to access what you want without needing ten taps to get there?
  • Available Translation: There are lot of Bible translations available today. From the ESV, HCSB, NASB, and NKJV, there are a lot of translations that people use. Does the app provide versatility when it comes to translation options?
  • Offline Support: This is a must-have feature. My iPad is WiFi only, so I need the option to be able to download my preferred translations so I can read them offline.
  • Study Tools: A good Bible app will give you more than just the text. Additional tools like reading plans, bookmarks, highlights, and scripture notes help you apply what you read to your own life.
  • Update Schedule: A quick search in the App Store will return hundreds of options that are no longer in development. A good Bible app is consistently updated to take advantage of modern iOS features.
  • Price: You can get a lot for free, which makes price even more important when trying to balance cost vs. features when picking the Bible app youre going to use.
