Is Unconditional Love In The Bible

And Above All Things Have Fervent Charity Among Yourselves: For Charity Shall Cover The Multitude Of Sins 1 Peter : 8 Kjv

Kingdom Living in Unconditional Love | Bible Encouragement

This scripture passage is one of many in the Bible that encourages us to practice unconditional love. Our relationship with each other should be characterized by love. We are to demonstrate unconditional love among each other, in our marriages, and even to our enemies.

First John chapter three is a helpful Bible study that speaks about love. Verse 11 is a reminder, ‘that we should love one another”. Ephesians 5:25 encourages husbands to express agape love in their marriage by stating, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it”.

It is much easier for a husband to show erratic love to ” the love of his life” or for us to be loving to a neighbor. The true test of agape love is to love our enemies as if they have done nothing to us.

Jesus helps us to understand how we should treat a person who is our enemy. In Matthew 5:44 he stated, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you”.

In essence Jesus was saying love the way God loves. Be merciful, patient, and abounding in love.

There Is No Fear In Love But Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear: Because Fear Hath Torment He That Feareth Is Not Made Perfect In Love 1 John : 18 Kjv

This Bible verse simply means that we cannot be followers of Christ because we want to be free from punishment. Romans 6:23 states, “that the wages of sin is death”. If our only motivation for following God is the fear of death it means you have a lot to learn about love.

We should be drawn to God’s presence because of His everlasting love for us. He is merciful, He is touched with our infirmities, He sent His son to die in our place, and He has offered us eternal life. He is love and our relationship with Him should be motivated by love not by fear of death or punishment.

God’s Unfailing Love Examples In The Bible

There are many examples of Gods unfailing love in the Bible. In the Old Testament, God, in His sovereignty, has chosen Israel as His treasured people from all the nations on earth. Instead of responding to Gods love by living in trust and obedience, unfortunately, the Israelites rebelled against Him so many times by worshipping other gods and deliberately disobeying Him. But Gods promise never fails: He repeatedly forgives, restores, and glorifies Israel because of His unfailing love . Israels journey with God could actually represent our spiritual walk by faith in Him who has loved us with an everlasting love. King David, despite his sins, acknowledged the immeasurable love of God toward those who fear Him .

Gods love has also been demonstrated in the life of Paul the Apostle, who formerly hated and persecuted Christians, but was unexpectedly visited by Jesus Himself through a divine encounter that radically transformed his life forever. He ended up becoming the author of nearly half of the New Testament books, upon which most doctrines of the Christian faith are laid. Paul believes that the love of God has been revealed through the work of Christ for us . The Bible is very clear on this point: no one or nothing can ever separate us from Gods love in Jesus Christ .

Gods Unconditional Love For You

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase unconditional love?

Maybe unconditional love sounds like a wonderful, comforting thing. Or perhaps, when you hear those words together, a part of you doubts that such a thing truly exists.

Imperfect Examples of Love

If I had to guess, all of us could probably think of a time where love came with conditions.

You thought that person would stay forever, but then they left. A parent only praised you when you performed well in school, but then would become angry when you failed. Your best friend stopped hanging out with you when they started a new relationship. You opened up and told someone at your church your struggles, but then they judged you for it.

Everyones story is different, but at one time or another, someone we loved or trusted has let us down.

I know for me when I have experienced these situations, its easy to let my experiences with people shape my view of Gods love for me.

So often, I find myself striving to earn Gods love or hiding parts of myself in an effort to keep Gods love. I become afraid that if I go too far or dont react to things perfectly that God will get angry and leave me forever. I stop trusting Gods heart for me because I dont want to be vulnerable.

Honestly, its difficult for me to believe that God loves me- no conditions and no strings attached.

If you can relate at all, here is the truth I want you to hear, that I need to hear today: God loves you unconditionally.

You Can Never Lose Unconditional Love

Is Unconditional Love Even Possible?

In the story of the lost son in Luke, both the prodigal son and the eldest son are lost in different ways. The eldest brother cant understand why his younger brother is getting celebrated for his repentance, while he, the eldest, does the right thing by taking care of his father and is not rewarded.

Look! All these years Ive been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!

Yet readers find in this story an unconditional love that seems unbelievable: My son, the father said, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again he was lost and is found .

Nothing can separate you from the love of God, no matter how badly you believe you have messed up your life. With a heart of repentance, you can always come back to the Father. He will greet you with a kiss and invite you to a party thrown in your honor.

God Shows Us Unconditional Love

God is the ultimate in demonstrating unconditional love, and He sets the example for us all in how to love without expectation.

Romans 5:8But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful.

1 John 4:8But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:16We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

John 3:16For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is Gods gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own.

Jeremiah 31:3The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

Titus 3:4-5But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 2:1Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?

Should Love Your Spouse Or Your Child More

BIBLE VERSES ABOUT GOD’S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE (With Explanation)

Theres a teaching out there floating around that Christian wives should love their husbands more than their children. I see no evidence for this in the Bible. And honestly, I dont think the kind of love we are instructed to give is to be portioned out in certain amounts to some more than others.

There are only two levels of love I see in Scripture love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength , and love your neighbor as yourself . In my opinion, this is the only valid comparison of who to love most. If several people you love are at odds, I think a more valuable question to ask is what choice will benefit the health & well-being of the other most? For example, if your husband asks you to bring him a cup of milk, but your child fell down and is bleeding you choose to care for the child because their well-being is most at stake. On the other hand, if your child wants to stay out at a party late, but your husband wants to go home because he needs to get up early in the morning, you go home to support the well-being of your husband. The choice is between well-being and indulgence, not between two people.

How To Show Unconditional Love

Jesus used the Greek word agapé when instructing us to love. Sometimes agapé has been translated as unconditional love. Agapé is unconditional in that it is a love that originates from the choice of the giver, not on the condition of the receiver. Agape love does not change, even if the recipient changes. Unconditional love is a decision and a commitment on the part of the one who loves.

So if you want to show unconditional love, then start with deciding. Decide you will show love no matter what happens.

  • Be patient and kind when others are rude.
  • Make sacrifices for others, especially when they dont deserve it.
  • Never use fear and intimidation, even when you feel fearful and intimidated.
  • Elevate others. Help them get head and encourage them along the way.
  • Look for and point out the best in others, especially those in whom its hard to see.
  • Not only is it important not to let your feelings lead your love. But when you act against your feelings to choose love, it is the most unconditional.

Decisions and feelings are not the fullness of love, however. Love does as Bob Goff says, it acts.

To Be Like Christ You Have To Love Unconditionally

This is easier said than done. It is easy to love those that are easy to love. But how difficult is it when God asks you to love someone who is annoying and mistreats you over and over again?

Love is an action. It takes practice. It is not just a feeling that is here today and gone tomorrow.

It takes work to maintain and means knowing who Jesus is so you can love others like He did. It takes communication, sacrifice, and commitment to be more like Him.

Praying, listening, journaling, and attending church regularly are just some of the ways you can practice nurturing your relationship with God so you can nurture your relationships with others, too.

Some Final Thoughts On How To Love Your Children Like Jesus

To love your child like Jesus doesnt depend on how you feel. Its OK if you dont like or even cant stand your child right now. Loving them is about what you choose to do for their well-being. Gods love is so much more than I can grasp, much less put into words. If you want to know how to love your children like Jesus, the most useful thing you can do is draw near to Jesus. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God and everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God .He will show you perfect love and will pour out love through you. He has revealed himself in Jesus who demonstrated and taught us how to love one another. Finally, I hope that you may have what Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:17-19I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of Gods love, and to know the Messiahs love that surpasses knowledge, so you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

    Unconditional Love Holds Boundaries

Just because you love unconditionally, doesnt mean you cant have boundaries. In fact, holding your child to a standard and having boundaries is a loving part of parenting.

To love someone is to have their best interests at heart in all that you do. It is not loving to allow your child to touch a hot surface, wander off into the street, or talk online with strangers. Dangerous and unhealthy activities need to be reigned in to protect and grow your child in healthy ways. For example, I believe I am loving my son when I say no to eating candy all the time. I am protecting and nourishing him by limiting him to more healthy choices.
