This is a warning against get-rich schemes. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isnt true. Someone, somewhere is going to get hurt in any quick-money making scheme. The best way to earn wealth is the old fashioned way to work for it. Thats really earning it and not gaining it by some less-than-honorable means. Its the one who gathers little by little who will eventually increase it.

What Paul Says About Money In The Bible

What he says to them is again predicated on his thoroughly eschatological view of Christian existence, but without the asceticism of the false teachers. Such people may be rich in the things that pertain to the present life but these things, even though they may be for our enjoyment, belong only to this present age and are therefore uncertain. The rich should therefore hold their possessions loosely, not placing their hope in them but being generous with them, using them for good works. Their hope must be placed in God and their riches used to store up treasures for the future, for the life which is true life. One might note that there are some close affinities in this passage with Ecclesiastes 5:820.

Two Extreme Financial Teachings

Next, there are two extreme financial teachings in Christian camps today: the Prosperity Gospel and the Poverty Gospel. I believe both are wrong.

Those who believe that riches are a sign of Gods blessing advance what is commonly referred to as the Prosperity Gospel. This teaches that you can command God to prosper you financially, that when you give you can expect a larger financial increase in return, and that your spending can be extravagant and carefree. This false theology is in contradiction to the many Scriptural warnings against greed, selfishness, coveting, idolatry, and the love of money.

Luke 16:14-15: The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. He said to them, You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in Gods sight.

First Timothy 6:10: For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

You should be on your guard to identify and reject the teachings of the Prosperity Gospel as well as the other extreme, the Poverty Gospel. This false teaching claims that money and possessions are evil, that rich people are greedy and sinful, that being poor makes you more righteous in Gods eyes, and that spending brings guilt and condemnation.

The first definition of rich in the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is having great material wealth. But is great material wealth the kind of riches God wants for us? Did He promise us an abundance of things?

No doubt, having lots of money and an abundance of material things can be enjoyable. But notice the words of Jesus Christ:

Take heed and beware of covetousness, for ones life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.~Jesus Christ, Luke 12:15

According to Jesus, life is not about things. Being materially rich is not what lifes about. So you and I are not better off based solely on the abundance of our material things .

Dont Focus On Physical Riches Focus On Spiritual Righteousness

It should be clear by now that material riches are not what God wants for us now. He may bless some with riches, but thats it. Its not a blanket promise for every Christian today. Not that He doesnt want us to prosper materially, but He is working out a plan.

This present evil world ruled by Satan is not yet our home. God doesnt want us to get attached to it. This is not yet the Kingdom of God. We are still praying, Thy kingdom come. But the time is coming and soon! when Jesus Christ will return and we will have the best life then. Unprecedented peace will grip the earth and untold prosperity will be the reality for every man, woman, and child!

In the meantime, our focus should be godliness with contentment. Thats what will make us truly rich.

We all struggle with bills to pay, debts to settle, and mouths to feed. Sometimes, we catch ourselves being overly worried or anxious about what may happen tomorrow. Will we have enough to eat? Will we have enough to drink? Will we have the money to buy clothes or pay for tuition? Will we have enough to survive?

Through it all, God assures us that He knows our needs even before we ask Him. He numbers the very hairs on our head. He loves us so much and knows how much money we have in our wallet at any given time, down to the last cent or centavo.

Trust Him for all your needs. He did not promise to make you a millionaire, but He promised never to leave you nor forsake you.

Worship With Your Money

If youâre not careful, it can be easy to place your hope in money. Money is something we can hold in our hands or look at in our bank account. We feel the weight of its absence or possess a sense of self-sufficiency when we have it in abundance. In Bible verses about putting your hope in money, youâre going to come across a ton of warnings:

  • âBe careful!â
  • âGuard your heart!â
  • âDonât be a fool with your money!â

When it comes to money, wealthy people are not the only ones who will be tempted to sin. Regardless of how much money you have, youâll be tempted to sin in different ways.

Instead of placing your hope in money or whatever generates income, place your hope in God. He owns everything, and he will provide you with what you need to live your life for him.

Clearly The Issue Is Not Being Rich But The Heart Attitude Towards Money That Concerns The Lord

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were men of means. King Solomon was said to be the richest king in the world, as a gift from God. In Luke 8:3, it records that rich women supported Jesus ministry on earth. And when Jesus died on a cross for our sins, wealthy and well-connected men asked for his body and buried it at their expense. In Acts 2 we read how the early church shared their resources, rich and poor, to take care of all.

God gave us the tenth commandment as a law against coveting. We should not have animosity towards anyone who has been entrusted with greater possessions than us.

When it comes to earthly wealth, God never condemns it or the wealthy but warns that sin enters the equation when money becomes the ultimate goal, the main pursuit of life. First Timothy 6:9-10 says, But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Jesus states in Matthew 6:24, No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Bible Verses About Contentment

Once we appreciate Gods provision and become grateful for what we have, we can then experience a true sense of contentment. There are many benefits associated with contentment, including reduced anxiety and increased happiness.

Being content also helps us stop comparing ourselves to others. Helen Keller once expressed her perspective on contentment this way: I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.

Here are several scriptures about contentment that can help change our outlook on what we haveor dont have.

If they obey and serve him , they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment. Job 36:11

Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. Psalm 37:1617

A God Wants You To Be Rich In Faith

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?~James 2:5

Most true Christians today are not materially rich. Some are, but most arent. This contradicts the prosperity preachers that claim all of Gods children are supposed to be wealthy and living their best lives now. Apparently, they havent read the words of Jesus Christ to the faithful church in Smyrna: I know your works, tribulation, and poverty .

How can they be rich, yet live in poverty?

They were not materially rich, but they were rich in faith, which is far more precious than gold:

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith the salvation of your souls.~1 Peter 1:69

Getting Rich Quickly Will Lost Riches Quickly Too

  • The bible tells that a person who earns wealth easily will eventually lose it so everyone must not toil much or overwork to get rich quickly since you dont know when the wealth you get will disappear quickly .

I wrote a post on this site a while ago that talks about what the bible has to say about money topics, and some of the biggest search referrals to that post involve people searching for biblical ways to make money, or get rich quick tips or prayers relating to making money quickly.

While Im glad that people are searching for Biblical wisdom when it comes to their financial lives, I think a lot of them may have missed the point when it comes to faith and money.

The Bible doesnt have a lot of verses that talk about how to get rich quick, but it isnt silent on the topic of getting rich quick. In fact, it talks quite a bit about it.

Today I thought Id explore what the bible says about getting rich quick.

What The Bible Says About Rich People

They are going to hell.
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
