What Does Bible Say About Marriage In Heaven

Bible Verses About Marriage

Will I REMEMBER my life on earth in heaven? Is there MARRIAGE in heaven?

The Bible contains numerous references to the sanctity and beauty of marriage. Its poetic love scriptures eloquently sum up what it means to be in love and to commit yourself to your significant other for the rest of your life. These Bible verses about marriage are the ideal addition to your wedding vows, and make beautiful readings to help make your ceremony even more special. For your reception toast, wedding programs or invitations, consider using other Bible verses about love that everyone can relate to. After all, there’s a myriad of ways to love one another outside of marriage.

1. Genesis 1:27-28: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’ “

2. Malachi 2:14-15: “But you say, ‘Why does he not?’ Because the LORD was witness between you and the wife of your youth, to whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.”

3. Isaiah 54:5: “For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is his name and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.”

6. Colossians 3:14: “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

What Did Jesus Explicitly Say About Marriage

In numerous places in the Scriptures, Jesus gives extensive overviews of marriage and divorce. From the beginning, it is clear that a marriage union is to occur between one man and one woman , and one should avoid divorce at all costs . While many will argue that Jesus did not address homosexual relations directly, Genesis 19 highlights the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, and Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 explains the detestableness of a man who sleeps with a man or vice versa.

In 1 Timothy 1:10, Paul writes: “The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching.”

While much more could be said about this topic, my aim of what Jesus says about marriage is not to delve into this point deeply but to briefly highlight what Scriptures note in a range of issues.

When two become one in covenantal bond, this matrimony is a pure image of Christ united with His Church. It not only represents Christ to the world through sacrificial love but shows that Christ should be at the center of that relationship . As a result, if our marriage is representative of Christ’s harmony with the Church, we must treat our spouse with the same honor and respect as we would treat ourselves !

Rejoice That Marriage Will Be No More

In sum, marriage ends because its procreating purpose is not needed in the resurrection . Marriage ends because all its pleasures are preludes and pointers to something so much better that the human heart cannot imagine . When the perfect comes, the partial passes away. And marriage ends in order to put the married and the non-married on the same footing for enjoying the fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore .

Feel the astonishing force of the promise that marriage will be no more because it was too weak to carry Gods best eternal pleasures.

Lets end where we began. If the age to come is not only an improvement over the worst of this world, but over the best, then the end of marriage is spectacularly good news. Do you see this? Marriage in this age, at its best, offers some of lifes most intense pleasures, and sweetest intimacies. If you have ever tasted these, or have ever dreamed of tasting them, then you can feel the astonishing force of the promise that marriage will be no more because it was too weak to carry Gods best eternal pleasures.

The more you feel like you would miss it, the more you should rejoice that it will be replaced. With every taste or every dream, remember: this is only foretaste only prelude. What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, God has prepared for those who love him . All of us, married or not.

What Does God Say About Marriage And Divorce

As Paul gives guidance to the Corinthians in regard to marriage, he very clearly states in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 that the Lord commands couples not to divorce or separate, but that if they do they should remain unmarried or else be reconciled. God does share that there are occasions when divorce is permitted as the

Humans Are Designed For Intimate Relationship Primarily With God

Will We Be Married in Heaven

As with all things, the ultimate answer is grounded in the person and character of God. From before creation, God has always existed in perfect, loving relationship between the three persons of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He didnt create the universe because He was lonely or needed something to do. He did it as an outpouring of His good and giving nature.

Consequently, as His image bearers, humans are designed for relationship, to love and be loved in a word, to belong. And the deepest expression of this relational nature that God has given humanity is found in the institution of marriage.

The universality of marriage has been borne out across all cultures throughout history. To be sure, we live in a fallen world and there have always been aberrations from Gods perfect design, not least in our own time. Nevertheless, the majority of societies have recognized the central value of marriage between one man and one woman for life.

This is reflected to an overwhelming degree in our arts and entertainment. How many stories and songs, poems and plays, novels and films have been written with love as their main theme? They celebrate its joys, mourn its heartaches, and more often than not, end with some version of happily ever after. Theres an old joke about Shakespeare that his tragedies all end with everyone dying, while his comedies all end with everyone getting married.

What Did Jesus Not Say About Marriage

In light of many hot topics that people ask regarding marriage, there are also many things that Jesus did not say about marriage.

Jesus did not say that marriage was the endgoal for all people. Marriage is not for everyone, and not being married doesn’t make you any less of a Christian. You can still be holy and growing in faith without a spouse. It is for this reason that marriage does not complete you. You are complete and whole as an individual in Christ. When we skew marriage to fulfill longings in us that only God can fill, we will always end up empty.

Second, while God gave us distinctive roles based on Christ and the Church, husbands and wives should understand that marriage is built on mutual honor and respect. There may be roles specific genders are more inclined to accomplish or drawn to than others, but as Piper explains, “no subjection to another human is absolute.”

“…The husband does not replace Christ as the woman’s supreme authority. As humble servants, husbands love their wives, and wives submit, but submission is not a free pass for crude orders or ‘because I said so’ responses… The husband who plops himself in front of the TV and orders his wife around like a slave has abandoned Christ for Archie Bunker. Christ bound Himself with a towel and washed the disciples’ feet. If a man wants to be a Christian husband he must copy Jesus, not Jabba the Hut.”

Jesus Takes It A Step Further: Marriage At The Resurrection

Jesus was not intending to give the final word on marriage in heaven. Instead, this response was Jesus refusal to answer the Sadducees riddle and fall into their trap. The Sadducees did not believe in angels either , so Jesus point was not to extend the argument into another realm.

Instead, he was showing that because there will be no levirate marriage in the resurrection or new marriage contracts, the Sadducees question was completely irrelevant. But their assumption about the resurrection needed a definitive answer, and Jesus was just the one to give it.

Matthew 33:31-32 But about the resurrection of the deadhave you not read what God said to you, I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.

The Sadducees underlying comment regarded their view of the absurdity of resurrection. Their question to Jesus was intended to show him to be foolish.

So Jesus cut right to the point: But about the resurrection of the dead.

Because the Sadducees accepted only the Pentateuch as Gods inspired Word, Jesus answered them from the book of Exodus . God would not have said, I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob if he had thought of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as dead .

Thus, from Gods perspective, they are alive.

Oh darn, no whoopee in heaven? Not to be disrespectful of you or Gods Wordguess I havent the foggiest idea of the WONDER of BEING WITH GOD IN HEAVEN?Perhaps Im still attached to this world. Cause of my hubbys health, we havent been able to enjoy this marital blessing for some time now. Have to admitI MISS MAKING WHOOPEE!Which brings me to a question Id asked Pastor Daryl Evans and havent received a response yet. He had written an article about lust. I asked him about masturbation, if it was a sin? Or should I pray for relief from sexual tension? Tried praying, taking a walk, SOMETHING to distract me from these overwhelming feelings.Years ago, when I was still practicing the Catholic Faith, after spending 7 months in the nuthouse, I find myself giving in to this and not really KNOWING if I were sinning or not. In Confession, I asked the Priest. He replied that in itself, it wasnt a sin. But that excess of any kind is harmful to us. Now that I am becoming more familiar with Gods Word, this particular subject has me concerned.I know I will never be perfect as Jesus is, but that doesnt stop my wanting to be as perfect as possible for Him.When you get the time, please advise me on this. OK?May you, Pastor Jack, and your family have a Happy, Blessed, Wonderful Easter!!!Always in Christ, JesusPatty

What Lessons Did Jesus Teach About Marriage

Bible Verses about Marriage What Does the Bible Say?

Beyond direct references, however, Jesus also taught many lessons and applications about marriage. And perhaps, demonstrated one of the best models, in His death on a cross for our sins.

When Jesus died for us in our sinful states, He reminded us that true sacrificial love doesn’t count the costs but gives until it has nothing left. It does not put up with abuse, but it looks for the best in everyone and is kind even when matters get tough. Marriage is not easy, but Scripture never says it was created to be simplistic . For this reason, Paul often said it was better not to marry !

God created marriage to make you more like Christ and give you the closest example of Him united with His bride, the Church . It teaches us to forgive, be patient, offer grace, serve, and cherish one another .

What images, parables, and metaphors did Jesus give related to marriage?

While many images, parables, and metaphors Jesus gave related to marriage, the most prominent one I have found is that marriage is the closest relationship we can enter into that demonstrates Christ’s union with His Bride, the Church, in the coming days.

You Are In Error Because You Do Not Know The Scriptures Or The Power Of God

The Sadducees thought they were pretty smart!

Jesus had just silenced the rival Pharisees, with their trick question about paying taxes to Caesar . That didnt slow down the Sadducees. They had formulated an even more elaborate word trap for Jesus.

They told an over-the-top hypothetical tale about one woman who married seven brothers in a row under the law of levirate marriage , none of whom fathered a child with her before they died one by one. She herself survived them all and died childless.

The Sadducees purpose in asking the question had nothing to do with marriage. It was meant to force Jesus into admitting that there is no afterlife.

You see, the Sadducees were the biblical literalists of their day. They didnt believe anything unless they could read it in the plain, literal meaning of the Biblewhich for them was the Hebrew Bible that Christians call the Old Testament. And since the Hebrew Bible says virtually nothing about any afterlife, the Sadducees didnt believe in an afterlife.

According to the Law of Moses, every one of that womans seven marriages, to seven brothers in a row, was a legal and valid marriage. And yet, unlike men, who could have multiple wives under the law, a woman could not have multiple husbands at the same time. Sothe Sadducees reasoning wentif all eight of them were resurrected and lived on in an afterlife, they would be in the illegal and impossible situation of one woman having seven husbands.

Obviously, there cant be an afterlife!

No Need For Marriage And Children

Jesus made it clear that angels do not marry and have children.5He also indicated that we will be like the angels in that regard.5God has allowed the human race to increase dramatically in numbers, so that there will be billions of God’s people in heaven. There can be no further reproduction in heaven, because it would violate God’s principle of free will and voluntary choice. All humans are required to choose to accept God or reject Him. If children were born in heaven, they would have no ability to choose to accept or reject God. This is because there is no allowance for rebellion and sin in heaven. For example, we know that angels do not receive grace,11 but are condemned on their first act of disobedience to God.12 Therefore, any children born would be forced to accept God – something God never does. This does not necessarily mean that God is necessarily finished producing spiritual creatures. It is possible that God could create another universe to allow other spiritual creatures the ability to choose God and enter into heaven. However, this is mere speculation.

It Should Be A Place Of Permission Generosity And Joy

The first marriage was a place of innocence, openness and joy:

the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

After the fall that is a very difficult state to attain.

The Bibles view on sexuality is rather straight forward. Basically the Bible says that sex is beautiful within certain boundaries and typically brutal and dehumanizing outside of those boundaries.

That is a simple view and a controversial view and it always has been. Sex has always been one of the main points of departure between the Christian community and the surrounding culture, and not just in the ways you might think. The caricature of Christian sexual ethics would suggest that we are prudes who say NO more than we say YES but that isnt actually the point of departure. In fact one of the most radical things the Bible says about anything is what Paul says about the anticipated frequency and reciprocity of sex within a marriage. In 1 Corinthians 7:3-4 the Apostle Paul says:

The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

That should be more widely known than it is.

A God Takes The Initiative To Show Adam His Loneliness

Marriage Made in Heaven? Part 7 " The Wife

It is God who says to Adam in verse 18, It is not good for a man to be alone. Adam doesnt figure that out by himself. After all, hes never been around anyone else so being alone is all hes known. You can imagine God saying, Its not good for man to be alone, and Adam saying, Its alright, Lord. Im good with the way things are. I may be alone but Im not lonely. And the Lord says, Adam, listen to me. Youre alone, and thats not good. But, Lord. Adam! The point is clear: God sees Adams need and moves to meet it even before Adam realizes he has a need.
