What Does The Bible Say About Gays

Leviticus : 13 On Death Punishment For Homosexuality

What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination they shall surely be put to death their blood is upon them.

After God delivered the Israelite from the hands of Pharaoh, God created many laws for them to live according to his will.

One of those laws was severe punishment if any man or woman committed the sin of homosexuality. If you are Gay, you shall die.

So, why dont gay men and women die from their sin?

Gods commandment to the Jews in the book of Leviticus instructed death for anyone that is involved in homosexuality. However, this is not applicable today.

This is because we have been set free from the law of Moses through Christs death. Christs death put away the curse of the law, and we are set free in liberty.

The law is not based on faith on the contrary, it says, The person who does these things will live by them.Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole. Galatians 3: 12, 13

However, this does not mean we can live in sin. We must live in ways that please God. If we indulge in homosexuality that does not bring praise to the body of Christ, we fall from his grace of eternal life.

Jesus’ Discussion Of Marriage

In Matthew 19:3, Jesus is asked “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?” He answered that:

“Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female’ , and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’ ? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Rob Gagnon, an associate professor of New Testament studies, argues it is “obvious” that Jesus’ back-to-back references to Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 show that he “presupposed a two-sex requirement for marriage” even though the question he was being asked was about a contemporary dispute about whether married couples could divorce.

Interestingly, still in response to the question in Matthew 19:3, Jesus speaks further and discusses a class he calls ‘eunuchs’, which would seem to be a reference to something more than simply those who have removed their testicles or external genitalia or been born without such:

But he said to them, “Not everyone can accept this teaching, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.”

What Does The Bible Teach About Homosexuality

Everyone has an opinion However, Gods opinion is love and truth, and what we are judged by. We need to be saved and to have our lives glorify God. Parents should be concerned for their childrens safety. As a nation, we need Gods protection.

Q6 Are Homosexual Acts Worse Sins Than Other Sins In The Bible

Scripture does not give the clearest grading of sins. That makes this a hard question to answer. On the one hand Jesus said that if the works that had been done in Capernaum had been done in Sodom it would have remained to that day . Additionally, He said that it would be more tolerable for Sodom in the day of judgment than for Capernaum . This seems to indicate that the severity of Gods judgment will vary depending upon the knowledge and witness of God: those who should know better more so will be judged more strongly. On the other hand Romans 1 does specifically point out homosexuality as an example of persistent rebellion against God and as being an example of the judgment of God. Interestingly, in this passage it does seem like there is a strong knowledge of the sinfulness of their activities. It is despite their knowledge of God and His judgment that they pursue their course and encourage others to do the same. From these examples we can see that Scripture does not really answer this question directly. However it does seem to indicate that the more willful a sin is the worse will be Gods judgmentregardless of what the practice of the sin is. Even more clearly than that though, and more importantly Scripture answers a different question about homosexuality. The question it answers is whether Gods grace is sufficient to rescue and deliver from this sin. It is.

Whats Gods Purpose For Man And Woman

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

At the beginning of the world, God created all things according to His likeness and then thought it necessary to create man after his own image.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them male and female he created them.God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground. Genesis 1: 27, 28

Gods purpose was to create a resemblance of himself that will worship him and do his will.

The LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. Genesis 2:18

So, God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep, collected one of his ribs and created the woman

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep and while he was sleeping, he took one of the mans ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Genesis 2: 21

And then, Adam had a companion and a helper on earth. Then, in verse 24 he said

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh

This is the marriage covenant of God. God has a purpose for man and never wanted same-sex marriage or relationship to happen. Adam and Eve were the first human creatures and did not have parents. Yet, because of Gods covenant, they knew it was Gods purpose for a man and woman to be in a union.

Homosexuality In The Hebrew Bible

The bible addresses the act of two people of the same sex having a relationship, but it does so differently to sociey.

Its important to undertsand the bible doesnt assume that a person is homosexual because of their behaviours alone, as the world does.

For example if two people of the same sex have a non physical relationship, theyre not automatically categorised as being homosexuals.

The bible tells us how we should act as men and as women.

  • The first thing to look at is that the bible addressees the actions of how a man or woman should act and dress.
  • Secondly it addresses how the act of sexual intercourse should and shouldnt be done.
  • So lets deal with these two things i.e. behaviour and sexual relations.

Jude : 7 Describes Gods Punishment For Sexual Immorality

Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

God has always frowned at sexual immorality. Avoiding them entirely and following Jesus Christ through faith is the only way to have eternal life.

And there were also male cult prostitutes in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations that the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.1 Kings 14:24

Is There An Objective Way To Respond To These Assertions

First, lets consider the claim that this Old Testament law has no relevance for New Testament believers but should be classified with kosher laws and such.

A basic rule of biblical interpretation is that any Old Testament teaching repeated in the New Testament carries the weight of command to the Christian church and faith. And the prohibition against homosexual activity is most certainly present there .

Even those Old Testament statements that are not repeated in the New Testament carry the force of principle. For instance, kosher laws tell us, at the least, that God cares about our bodies and health.

Second, it is claimed that the Leviticus passage expresses a worship code, not a moral standard.

The logic is that Leviticus is written with regard to the Levitical priests and their duties of worship preparation and leadership and does not apply as such to the larger family of faith. However, the chapter in question begins, The Lord said to Moses, Speak to the Israelites and say to them . . . . .

Nothing in the chapter limits its application or significance to the Levites. Rather, the chapter exhorts all Israel to keep my decrees and laws, for the man who obeys them will live by them . It proceeds to forbid incestuous relationships, child sacrifice, and bestialitystandards I presume critics of Leviticus 18:22 would consider universal.

Does the Bible Say Anything About Homosexuality?

When discussions of Jesus and homosexuality or the LGBT15 lifestyle come up some might try to claim that Jesus never dealt with the issue. However that is not really accurate. Jesus, as God, was a unique teacher. He often dealt authoritatively with the principles that were behind not just one action, but a whole host of possible ones. He often discerned through to the heart and intent of people and exposed both our sinful hearts, and His holy standard. The following two examples carefully show us that we all fall short and are desperately in need of Gods grace.

Does Homosexuality Exist In The Bible

When we read the scriptures, we see homosexuality first in the Book of Genesis 19, with the story of Lot, Abrahams brothers son i.e. his nephew .

In the scriptures Homosexuality is called Sodomy

Here we see acts of homosexuality in the land of Sodom and Gomorrah. And from that point on wards the word Sodom which mean burnt becomes synonymous with what is homosexuality in modern terms.

The Story of Sodom and Gomorrah which is a place in the east, explains how the Most High sent Angels to be Lots guests to find out how bad the sodomy was there.

Unfortunately the angels that were sent in human male form, became the preferred sexual preference of the men in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Lot even attempts to offer his daughters to them, in an attempt to prevent this sin of sodomy.

    Genesis 19:1-11

In verse 5 it specifically says that the men of Sodom and Gomarrah wanted to Know them . And the them referring to the Angels the Most High sent to Lot as guests in his home.

These scriptures are clearly talking specifically about sexual acts between men when Sodomy is mentioned.

Sodomy only relates to men in the scriptures and not women .

The 6 Bible Verses On Homosexuality And Differing Interpretations

Gallery: Mayor Hopewell weds first gay couple at Bronson Park

There are six direct references to homosexuality in the Bible — three in the Old Testament and three in the New Testament.

Some Biblical scholars say the passages needs to be taken at face value. Other theologians say it’s much more complicated.

Here are the references and what scholars say, based on Kalamazoo Gazette interviews with theologians from Notre Dame, Western Michigan and Central Michigan universities, Kalamazoo and Calvin colleges.

Genesis 19: The story of Sodom and Gomorrah

This has been held up as a cautionary tale about the sinfulness of homosexuality. However, many scholars point to Ekezial 16:49 as indicating that the cities were destroyed by God for not helping the poor and needy. Some also say the sinful sex occurring in Sodom and Gomorrah was rape, which means it doesn’t apply to teachings on consensual same-sex relationships.

    Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13

The Book of Leviticus in the Old Testament has two references condemning homosexuality: “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman that is detestable” and “If a man lies with a man as one lies with woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death their blood will be on their own heads” .

While condemnations of gay sex are unequivocal in Leviticus, it also is part of a long list of Jewish laws, some of which are not followed by Christians today.

Leviticus also advocates the death penalty for adultery.

Iii Homosexuality In The New Testament

    Pin on bible

In the New Testament many passages generally prohibit sexual immoral activity . These commands would include homosexuality. However, homosexuality is most explicitly discussed in three passages. The first of these three discusses homosexuality at length. Whereas the last two are in lists of sins. Like the discussion in the Old Testament section this will not be an attempt to discuss every possible issue arising from these texts. Rather the goal will be to express the Biblical and Christian view on homosexuality that these verses teach. As before, further resources will be noted for those desiring a deeper investigation.

What About The Argument That Homosexuality Is Inherited

If this is true, at least for some, how can such activity be wrong?

God made me this way is a typical testimony. A very brief response would be that the connection between genetics and homosexuality is tenuous at best.

Where research has seemed to indicate some physical propensity toward homosexual orientation, others in the field have refuted such a conclusion. It is widely believed that alcoholism can be an inherited genetic propensity, but no one would therefore endorse its practice. While this is a very unfortunate analogy regarding homosexuals, it perhaps illustrates the fact that not every genetic tendency should be endorsed .

A Homosexual Person Deserves To Be Treated With Dignity And Respect

He or she is acting out a lifestyle that many of us understand to be unbiblicalbut so are any of us who practice slander, gossip, heterosexual lust, or egotistical pride.

So-called gay bashing is always wrong. Any action or attitude that demeans a person or makes them less valuable is the opposite of the grace and unconditional love of Christ.

The Tribulation Kingdom Of The Antichrist Will Be Defined By Homosexuality And Religious Pluralism

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

Revelation 6 warns that the end-times Antichrist will ride forth on a white horse conquering and to conquer holding aloft a bow .

    men

Chapter 6 of the Revelation of Jesus Christ to the Apostle John closely parallels a portion of the Olivet Discourse in Matt 24, Luke 21, and Mark 13, in which Jesus summarized the sequences of end time events before His return. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse represent the four phases or aspects of what Jesus calls the beginning of sorrows just before the start of the tribulation .

The white horse represents the Antichrist, and the bow which he holds is almost certainly the rainbow. Remember that the Antichrist is an imposter who seeks to deceive the world into thinking he is the messiah. The real Christ will return in the clouds at His second coming , and on a white horse. Revelation 19:11 states And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

Remember also that the rainbow, which God set in the clouds after the great flood is the symbol of Gods authority over the earth and evidence of His presence . The Antichrist will apparently appropriate the symbol of the rainbow for himself as part of his claim to deity.

Proposition : The One Passage In The New Testament That Almost Certainly Does Refer To Homosexuality Is Based On Some Highly Debatable Presuppositions About Its Nature And Causes

The passage in question is Romans 1:2627. Earlier in this chapter, the author is talking about idolatry, the worship of false gods. Then, beginning in verse 24, he talks about the results of idolatry. Verses 24 and 25 identify the results of idolatry as lust, impurity, and the degrading of ones body. Then, verses 26 and 27 spell out in more detail the nature of this lust, impurity, and bodily degradation as follows :

For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

Following verses 26 and 27, the remainder of the chapter lists some of the other results of idolatry, and the list is rather similar to the catalogues in 1 Corinthians 6:910 and 1 Timothy 1:811. In other words, homosexuality is but one among other types of unacceptable behaviors.
