What Is Death In The Bible

Dna & The Temptation Of Eve:

What is the “second death” mentioned in Revelation?

The Bible was written thousands of years before discovering DNA. DNA is relatively a new field of study, being less than 200 years old. Consider this, did you know that the serpent in the garden tempted Eve using forty-six words.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

The letters in bold when counted up equal forty-six. What happened when they ate the fruit, they began to die, and sin and death entered into the world. Adam and Eve changed physically and spiritually when they fell. Going from being immortal to mortal. Let us look now at where the incorruptible seed grows in the born again believer.

The Bible: Key To Understanding

As we review these scriptures, we will come to understand that the answer is not as difficult as it first appears. We have to go to the Bible to find the answers. Since the Bible was inspired by the Creator, there can be no errors or contradictions in the Scriptures He originally inspired. John 10:35 clearly says, The Scripture cannot be broken.

If we recognize the authority of the Bible as being the inspired Word of God, then we can have confidence that seeming contradictions can be sorted out.

Take Up The Challenge

Our responsibilities are clear. We should certainly pray for those who have sinned that they will repent, but we also need to make sure we are living in harmony with Gods Word and allowing it to act as a guiding light in our own lives . We must beware of Satans devices and avoid the traps of temptation and habitual sin.

The Bible does not say that everyone goes to heaven when they die. It is those who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior who does. John the Baptist went around telling people to repent because the kingdom of heaven was near . He knew that those who accepted the good news would go to heaven, and those who didnt would face condemnation in the afterlife.

Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. If we die before repenting and accepting Christ, we will not have eternal life. After Death Comes Judgment

Part 1: What the Bible Says About Death

The biblical record is clear that God is going to judge every person, And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment . The news of judgment is good news for some, but bad news for others. Believers will be ushered into an eternity with God. There they will experience the kind of relationship that was only hinted at while here on earth. No heartache, no tears, the kind of existence for which we were created .

However, the news of Gods judgmentshould strike fear into the hearts of those who are in rebellion against Him. Eternal punishment, or the second death , is the destination for those who reject Jesus. Jesus himself said about those who did not live for Him, And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. . Even though both believers and non-believers exist after the death of their bodies, only believers will enjoy eternal life. Unbelievers will persist in a state separated from God. Their spiritual death will continue beyond the grave, except there will be no opportunity for repentance or salvation. The time for the unbeliever to turn to God is now. No one is guaranteed a next breath. One day it will be too late.

The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world .

What Happens To Your Soul When You Die

Many Christians think of the soul as an immortal entity within us that goes on living after death. What does the Bible say? Describing the creation of human beings in the beginning, the Bible says, And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul . Other Bible translations say, . . . and man became a living being . God did not put a soul into man. He formed the body from the dust of the ground, and then He breathed His life-giving spirit into the lifeless bodyand the result was a soul, or a living being. When a person dies, the reverse takes place. The breath of life departs from the body, and the soul no longer exists. Thats what the Bible says. The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it . At the resurrection, God reunites the body and His life-giving spiritand the person lives again.

If souls existed as separate entities that lived on after we died, that would mean we have immortality. However, the Bible says human beings do not have immortality. Only God is immortal . Paul says that the righteous seek for glory, honor, and immortality . If we had immortal souls, why would the righteous seek after something they already have?

What About The Sin Not Leading To Death

Even though true Christians strive and struggle to enter through the narrow gate , endeavoring to please God in their daily lives, they dont always succeed. From time to time all fall into sin as they learn to walk with Christ. Accidental sin is not a willful violation of Gods laws.

As the apostle John stated: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us . But if we freely admit that we have sinned, we find God utterly reliable and straightforwardhe forgives our sins and makes us thoroughly clean from all that is evil . In this context read 1 John 1:10 and 2:1-2 as well.

Confession of sins has to do with what the Bible calls repentance. This word represents the difference between the sin that leads to death and the sin that does not lead to death.

Why Does God Permit Death

Yeah, if God is all-knowing, all-loving, and all-powerful, youd think he wouldnt do this right? If I were God, you would say I wouldnt allow death, wouldnt permit death. Well, in a sense, death is definitely connected to the fall, the first man and woman were warned that if they ate of the fruit that they would die. They began to die spiritually in that moment and then would eventually die physically as well.

But in a fallen world now, where we live in these broken bodies, these diseased bodies and this broken world, death is a gift of God. Its the means by which we can step from death into life, where we can step from these broken, fallen bodies into Gods perfect paradise.

Im sixty-two years old. Im getting older every day. And the older I get, the more grateful I am that Im not going to spend eternity in this body, that Im not going to just continue to age forever, that Im not going to liveeven if God were to stop the aging processthat Im not going to live forever in this broken, fallen world.

And even if God were to somehow make this world better than it can be because of sin, its still not his presence. Its still not his paradise. And its nothing like its going to be.

I can make you this promise. One second on the other side of death, every believer is going to be grateful they died. One second on the other side, when theyre in Gods perfect paradise and Gods perfect presence. Theyll be grateful that God allowed death as the doorway to life.

Heaven Will Be Better Than Anything We Can Imagine

Ive experienced some amazing things. Ive visited the Grand Canyon, Hawaii, and Yosemite. Ive enjoyed Disney Land with my laughing, skipping daughter when she still dressed in princess gowns and tutus. Ive eaten enough ice cream of all varieties to fill numerous freezers, but all of these experiences pale compared to what awaits Christ-followers in heaven.

In fact, heaven will be better than all the earthly pleasures combined across the span of time. Regarding this, the Bible says, What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceivedthe things God has prepared for those who love Him .

Physical death is inevitable this side of heaven, but this was never Gods intent for His beloved creation. Nor is this where He wishes for us to remain. In Christ, He offers us lifeto experience, through relationship with Him, all the good and lovely and amazing blessings He has planned for us. He wants to surround us in His love, from now into eternity, and in so doing, casts out all fear.

Because of Christs death and resurrection, we, His beloved, can confidently say, Where, o death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ .
