Luke : 35 But Love Ye Your Enemies And Do Good And Lend Hoping For Nothing Again And Your Reward Shall Be Great And Ye Shall Be The Children Of The Highest: For He Is Kind Unto The Unthankful And To The Evil

Love is Kind: What Does the Bible Say About Kindness?

It is easy for us to be kind to those who are kind to us. It requires a humble spirit to be willing to obey God when He tells us to love and do good for our enemies. God wants to bless us, and we come into agreement with His will through obedience and humility. When we are kind and good to our enemies or give to those who can never repay us, it shows others the power of God in our hearts.

The Story Of The Good Samaritan

The good Samaritan story highlights the important point that kindness and compassion should never be withheld because of race. The story is also one of incredible forgiveness and humility. Samaritans were a widely hated group of people and had become enemies of the Jews. However, when faced with the choice of doing good and being nice or exacting vengeance and acting in anger, the Samaritan chose to show kindness to the injured Jew. The story deliberately included a priest and a Levite because these were expected to be morally upright people. However, when the moment called for it, they failed to reflect kindness and love.

Being kind to others should not be dependent on how they are to us. This can be a difficult pill to swallow. Luke 6:33-35 poses some hard-hitting questions around this approach to kindness. In the end, we are reminded that there is a greater reward for loving beyond relationships. If we can show love and kindness to those who have wronged us, then we exhibit the character of Christ and will be rewarded for letting our lights shine.

‘kindness’ In The Bible

And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.

Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.

And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

and said, Praise the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not withheld His kindness and faithfulness from my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on the journey to the house of my masters relatives.

And the days of Israel are near to die, and he calleth for his son, for Joseph, and saith to him, ‘If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and thou hast done with me kindness and truth bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,

The Story Of The Widow Of Zarephath

This story highlights the real-time rewards and blessings associated with giving. The widow was poor with very little in her house to eat. She was unable to fend for herself or her son, but when the prophet of God showed up at her house and asked for something to eat, she chose to give the last that she had and trust God to do the rest. God came through for her and provided for her in a supernatural way. He wants us to open our hearts to receive His supernatural blessings as well.

The kingdom of God confounds the wise. To be the greatest is to become the least, and the way to receive is to give. Kindness unlocks a special blessing that God has in store for us. When we are blessed with Earthly possessions, we are not expected to become arrogant or rude to others as a result. Instead, we are expected to let the blessings we received flow through us like a river and not hoard them like a reservoir.

Why Does God Want Us To Demonstrate Kindness

The Fruit of the Spirit is KINDNESS! // 50+ Bible Verses about Kindness and Graciousness

The first section of Proverbs 19:22 states, What is desired in a man is kindness. Why? Why would God consider this trait so important?

Psalm 25:6 makes an interesting point about the origin of kindness: Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, for they are from of old. God created the world as well as humanity, and He graciously allows us to live here. He also gives us free choice to live as we please, though He deeply wants us to choose His way of life, knowing that it is the only way that will bring true happiness. What great kindness!

God wants us to become like Him. Though Gods tender mercies and lovingkindnesses are often taken for granted, His servants recognize His hand. The same will be true of us if we follow His example and are merciful and kind as He is. Biblical history shows that Gods mercy and kindness was many times shown through people He inspired. God raised up deliverers and sent prophets who tried to help the people.

Ephesians 4:32 states: And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Verse 31 reveals the implied opposite: Bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking. These are clearly traits God does not want in His chosen people!

Matthew : 42 Kjv Give To Him That Asketh Thee And From Him That Would Borrow Of Thee Turn Not Thou Away

Matthew challenges us in this verse to go beyond our comfort levels to share with others. We may create a place in our monthly budget for acts of kindness, but Matthew challenges us to go even further. Giving to those who ask may require giving in at a time that is not optimal or convenient. It is a call to trust God to provide for our needs as we attend to the needs of others.

First Lets Look At A Kindness Definition

Kindness Bible Verses

Quick question Have you ever tried to look up kindness in an official dictionary?

If you have, you might have found a formal definition of kindness that looked a little something like this:

  • The quality of being kind.

While that may be an accurate definition of kindness, it can feel a bit disappointing because it doesnt seem to do the word kindness justice.

Perhaps partly due to its brevity, the above kindness definition fails to convey kindness immensity. In addition, it creates the follow-up question of well, then, what is the definition of kind?

Acts : 35 Kjv I Have Shewed You All Things How That So Laboring Ye Ought To Support The Weak And To Remember The Words Of The Lord Jesus How He Said It Is More Blessed To Give Than To Receive

Jesus wants us to develop a heart for service towards those who cannot properly care for themselves. Jesus often spoke about the fatherless, the widowed, the orphaned, the poor, and the needy. In His time, these people were the most disadvantaged in society.

Jesus taught us that it is our responsibility as His followers and heirs to the throne of God to take care of these people, just as Jesus did. We should see it as our responsibility to put food on their tables, clothes on their backs, and shoes on their feet.

When Kindness Isnt Easy

Lets face it. Sometimes kindness is not easy. Sometimes it doesnt flow out of us like wed hoped because kindness is not always returned. Read this definition from Life, Hope, and Truth:

Kindness is humbly giving of ourselves in love and mercy to others who may not be able to give anything back, who sometimes dont deserve it, and who frequently dont thank us for it. Basically kindness means a way of thinking that leads to doing thoughtful deeds for others.

When kindness is hard to give, take some time to stop and ask why.

Is it pride, unforgiveness, or judgment that doesnt allow the kindness to flow?

The word kindness has been translated in Galatians 5:22 from the Greek word Chrestos. It means a softening or mellowing of something that was once harsh. It is not in our nature to give such humble, merciful kindness to people who dont deserve it, but we have been given the most wonderful kindness from God in his Son and the gift of his Spirit.

Soften our hearts, Lord. Make us mellow in our response. Cultivate Chestos in us. Help us slow down and look for opportunities to be kind. Fill us and empower the fruit of kindness to flow from our hearts, minds, and actions. Amen.

Kindness Is A Gift Everyone Can Give Every Day Not Only To Others But Also To Ourselves

In addition, the gift of kindness is a gift that keeps on giving.

Sincere kindness does so much more than just make us smile. It stays with us. It lingers.

As it disarms our shields of cynicism and reaffirms our faith in humanity, it marks us kindness changes us.

Despite how low we feel or how far weve fallen, great acts of kindness pick us up, dust us off, and urge us to stand tall regardless of the weight of our burdens.

Therein lies the beauty of kindness.

Kindness provides both comfort and clarity. It ignites, even as it soothes.

Kindness Prepares For Repentance

Random Acts of Kindness | Bible Fruit of the Spirit | Christian Motivation

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that Gods kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

So, kindness has significant power, and its power is not meant to simply make us feel better about ourselves. The power of kindness is seen in how it leads people to repentance.

Remember this next time someone makes you angry. You want them to know how they hurt you, and you want them to never do it again. When I am in this position, I usually use a different tool than kindness. I may use spite, gossip, or coldness, thinking to myself that kindness will only encourage their behavior.

This fruit of the Spirit entails forbearance, yet Scripture also tells us that God uses kindness to lead us into repentance. Why should I use a tool other than the one God chooses to use?
