Bible Verses About Giving To The Poor
The wicked borrows and does not pay back,But the righteous is gracious and gives.
He who gives to the poor will never want,But he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.
So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
John Answered Anyone Who Has Two Shirts Should Share With The One Who Has None And Anyone Who Has Food Should Do The Same
God commands us to share what we have and in this verse, there are examples of food and clothing. He asks that we share what we have and give to those that we come across that do not have the same as us.
This is also a reminder that we shouldnt live with excess material possessions. It is easy to get caught up in a world where we constantly want the best and newest things in life and often end up accumulating more than we need. This is a great reminder that if we have more than we need that we should share with others.
Proclaiming Good News To The Poor
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”
Jesus would eventually kick off His ministry by standing up in the synagogue and claiming these words as a prophecy about His ministry. The fact that Jesus would choose these words from the whole Old Testament should tell us just how important this mission is to Him. God’s love is demonstrated in His tender care toward those who are broken, struggling, and hurting.

Biblical Basis For Giving To The Poor
What does the Bible have to say about poverty and giving to the poor? I want to have a God-honoring attitude on this matter, but to be honest, as a new Christian I’ve been confused by some of the differing opinions and ideas I’ve heard. Do you consider this kind of activity to be an important part of the Christian life?
On this point the message of the Bible is clear: God cares deeply about the poor and expects His people to do the same. Lets take a closer look at the scriptural teaching in this regard.
Well begin with the Old Testament. A mechanism designed specifically to provide for the needs of the poor was built into the Mosaic Law in the form of regulations governing the reaping and gleaning of fields: When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the Lord . Concern for the needy was in fact regarded as part and parcel of Israels religious life and an aspect of worship: He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, declares Proverbs 14:31, but he who honors Him has mercy on the needy. This is why the prophets consistently railed against the rich and powerful who were guilty of plundering the poor and grinding their faces .

Bible Verses About Putting Your Hope In Your Wealth
Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Matthew 19:21-26 Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.; When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, Who then can be saved? Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Peter answered him, We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?; Jesus said to them, I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first

While I wont be able to list all 2000+ verses here, I want to give a selection of verses in a variety of topic areas.
Christian Service: Serving Others And Seeking Social Justice
“Real religion, thekind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless intheir plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.” — James 1:27, TheMessage

When You Give To The Poor Do It In Secret
So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
All They Asked Was That We Should Continue To Remember The Poor The Very Thing I Had Been Eager To Do All Along
Even if you are unable to give to the poor through money, food, or shelter, do not feel as though you are unable to enrich their lives in any way. We are also called to remember the poor and serve them with our time.;
This can include volunteering help at shelters, helping with preparing or serving food. As well as volunteering in schools or orphanages in poor communities who need extra help or expertise in certain areas. This is as valuable as making monetary donations.

Matthew : 1921 Investing In Future Treasure
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
In keeping with some of these Old Testament passages, Jesus challenges us with a choice: accumulate stuff here , or use it in such a generous way that weâre investing it in the coming Kingdom.
When we are generous with the things that come through our life, we are actually sending it ahead, and weâll be compensated by God.
The beauty in this passage is found in Jesusâ promise that as we invest our resources in Godâs Kingdom, our heart will also be pulled in that direction. If you ever find yourself praying that God would awaken a desire in your heart for Kingdom things, try practicing generosity for a couple months.
Uphold The Cause Of The Poor
“Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
God is not naive. He knows that there’s a tendency for the strong to exploit the weak. He demands that His people rule in a way that protects the vulnerable.

God Asked Us To Remember The Poor
The Bible also speaks about how people in poverty might become rich one day in Heaven. But until then, we are called to assist our poor brothers and sisters in any way that we can. The Lord, your God, will reward such good deeds because, with your acts, you are honoring the kingdom of God.;
The above inspiring scriptures on giving to the poor are a way of encouraging us to have generous spirits in all we do by responding to the cry of the poor. As Jesus helped us, the poor and needy, by dying on the cross, we are too called to help the poor and needy in our daily lives.
Matthew : 42 God Keeps Track Of Our Giving
And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.
Again we see a relationship between how we treat the needy and vulnerable around us and our future reward. The Lord is keeping pretty intricate accounts and doesnât even neglect to record water given in his name.
The Generous Will Themselves Be Blessed For They Share Their Food With The Poor
God will bless those that are generous with their possessions and time. If there is someone needy in your land and you assist them by sharing in the harvest of your land, you will receive the grace of our Lord.
If anyone who has food and shares with their brothers and sisters knows that the Lord will bless them. This act shows some justice for the poor, and the Lord Jesus will acknowledge this.
Bible Verses About Planning Ahead
Proverbs 13:16 A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesnt, and even brags about it!
Luke 14:28-30For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish itlest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying This man began to build and was not able to finish?
Proverbs 6:6-8 Go to the ant, you sluggard;; consider its ways and be wise!; It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
Proverbs 16: 9 In their hearts humans plan their course,; but the LORD establishes their steps.
Proverbs 27:23 Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, and attend to your herds.
Proverbs 14:29 He who is impulsive exalts folly
Do Not Exploit The Poor In Court
“Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court, for the Lord will take up their case and will exact life for life.”
In God’s eyes, the court was a place where the poor could go and receive justice. If the court system is corrupt and becomes a tool the rich can use to take advantage of the impoverished, where can they go for fairness?
When the courts abuse the most vulnerable people in society, God becomes their public defenderand they will get justice.

Do Not Pervert Justice
“Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.”
The justice of the Israelites was to reflect God’s impartiality. The fairness lacking in a broken world was to be relieved by the unbiased nature of the Hebrew legal system. The poor were to be cared for, but not in a way that showed prejudice against the rich. Likewise, the rich were not to receive special treatment when decisions were made.
Bible Verses About Helping The Poor You Need To Know
For the poor will never cease from the land Deuteronomy 15:11. This is one of many Bible verses about helping the poor, a major theme within the Bible. Jesus famously said in Matthew 22:39, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. This statement can best applied in how we treat the poor.
Deuteronomy 15:11 says that the poor will always be with us. The world cannot escape it. We can try through economic and political systems to pull people out of poverty and create an environment where they can better themselves. But even the best system that leads to prosperity for many cant reach everyone. ;There will never be an instance in this present life when someone somewhere isnt experiencing poverty.
Because of that, we should consider all manner of ways in which we might go about helping the poor.
God clearly has a special place in his heart for the poor. His words about the poor are littered throughout the pages of the Bible. So today, we are going to look at 15 powerful Bible verses about helping the poor that show us how we might best meet their needs.
