PS: A song that this scripture reminds me of was one of my favorite songs to sing in church growing up with His Eye is on the Sparrow. If you aren’t familiar with this song, check it out.

God Is With You Dont Be Afraid

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 MEV

The Bible contains hundreds of Fear Nots, admonitions to not be afraid. God must have known that we as human beings would need that kind of reminder! If Jesus was standing right in front of you, would you be afraid? He has promised to be with you always. He IS with you right now, just as much as if you could see Him with your physical eyes. There is no need to fear.

Worrying Is Not A Sin

When it comes to worrying, Jesus isn’t trying to shame us into not worrying. Instead, He is saying it is unnecessary to hurt ourselves in this way. He is offering relief from responsibilities that are not ours. While it is our responsibility to make the wisest choices with our time, opportunities, and resources, we need to realize that we are not responsible for the end results.

It is not your responsibility to win a contest. It is not your responsibility to ace every test, even if it is your responsibility to study. It is not your responsibility to make your peers happy, even if it is your responsibility to treat everyone with kindness and integrity. Do you see the difference?

Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Many times, stress stems from us seeking so, so hard to do everything in our own strength. But Paul reminds us that true strength comes from God Himself. Our imperfections are beautiful opportunities for God’s grace to shine through the cracks.

Overcoming Worry & Stress: What The Bible Says About Stress

In todays world it is virtually impossible to avoid stress. Almost everyone is carrying some amount of it, in varying degrees. Many find it increasingly difficult to simply survive in the world we live in. In desperation, people are seeking relief for their problems through any remedy they can find. Our culture is inundated with self-help books, therapists, time-management workshops, massage parlors, and recovery programs . Everyone talks about returning to a simpler way of life, but no one seems to even know exactly what that means, or how to attain it. Many of us cry out like Job: The churning inside me never stops days of suffering confront me. .

Most of us are so used to carrying the burden of stress, we can scarcely imagine our lives without it. We think it is simply an unavoidable part of living in the world. We carry it like a hiker trudging out of the Grand Canyon with a huge pack on his back. The pack seems to be a part of his own weight, and he cant even remember what it was ever like to not be carrying it. It seems that his legs have always been that heavy and his back has always ached under all that weight. Only when he stops to rest for a moment and takes off his pack does he realize just how heavy it really is, and how light and free he is without it.

How To Use The Reading Plan And Customize It For You

Below Ive listed the calming bible verses for worry, stress and anxiety. Ive also included a free printable version of these verses. Heres how you can keep these verses front and center in your day-to-day life:

    • Print the verses out and put them where you can see them every day. Especially when you first wake up and before you go to bed, to sort of bookend your day with Gods truth. Perhaps, tape them to your bathroom mirror, set them on your nightstand, or put them on the fridge.
    • Another way to use the reading plan below and customize it for you, is to grab some cue cards, or cut up paper, and write the verses down, one at a time.
    • Also, read them out loud when you see them each day.
    • And finally, memorize the verses you love most.

By reading them, writing them, speaking them and memorizing them, they will become more ingrained in your brain and will sink deep for easy recall when you again feel pressure or worry.

What God Says About The Causes Of Anxiety

The bible does not state what causes anxiety, because God considers anxiety to be a crisis of faith. The belief here is that anxiety shows that the person has not yet been able to put full trust in God, because fear itself is something that is meant to be relinquished as every person is meant to be part of God’s plan. As it is said in Matthew 6:27:

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single cubit to his life’s span?

In other words, what does being anxious do that helps you? This is a question not just of religion, but also about anxiety itself. There are those that struggle with anxiety and panic attacks every day, worrying that they may be suffering from a dangerous disease or at risk for many dangers. But what does worrying about the disease do to cure it? What does thinking that you may be at risk for danger do to improve your life?

The answer is that worrying about anxiety does nothing to improve one’s lifespan, both in longevity and in quality. It’s simply the result of uncertainty, and the bible teaches the idea that uncertainty is, essentially, distrust with the plan of God. It’s not that anxiety is a sin, but that anxiety is the act of experiencing fears and worries that one wouldn’t experience if they truly follow and show commitment to God.

    Give Your Anxiety To Jesus

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 NIV

The Greek word translated cast is very descriptive. Its the same word used to describe how the disciples threw their garments over the donkey Jesus would ride into Jerusalem. Do that with your anxiety today. If necessary, write your worries on a piece of paper, and then throw them into a river or leave them at the altar at your church. Such a physical act symbolizes casting all your worries onto Jesus, and leaving them there.

Encouraging Bible Verses Cast Your Anxiety On God Because He Cares For You

As someone who has personally dealt with anxiety and worrying most of my life, I can tell you that there have been times where I have felt so paralyzed and alone with my feelings and thoughts.

Anxiety and depression can often make you feel alone and even make you feel as if no one even cares about you.

But in gaining a closer relationship with Christ over the years, I have learned thats just a lie that the enemy tries to make us believe.

In fact, were NEVER alone and scripture reminds us in numerous places that not only is God always with us, but the depth of his love is far beyond what we could ever imagine.

What does God say about anxiety and fear?

God speaks of anxiety and fear several times throughout the bible, reminding us to put our faith and trust in him, and commanding us to pray and give thanks instead of worrying.

As his children, God doesnt want us to worry or be anxious, but instead he wants us to fully trust that he will always provide us with everything that we need.

In Philippians 4:6-7, scripture tells us to:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

In 1 Peter 5:6-7, the bible reminds us to:

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Remember How God Has Helped You Before

One of the things that can begin to change our thoughts and calm our minds is to remember the ways that God has helped us in the past. Now, some reading this may say, Im not sure that I really believe in God. Then think, How have past troubles been resolved for me? Remember those times. And since worries can be for nothing, you may also think about this: When have I worried, and what I was worrying about did not happen?

My prayer is that you would begin to see God in the blessings and help that you have experienced, but a sure way of alleviating anxiety is to remember past escapes from trouble and stress.

It is also helpful to hear others talk about their lives and how God delivered them from trouble. When you hear many testimonies of relief and provision, it encourages you to look up and start trusting that you, too, will find relief.

    Anxiety In The New Testament

In the New Testament, Jesus talks about faith versus anxiety. Matthew 6:26 says, Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his lifespan? He continues saying in verse 28, And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. Hes telling His followers that Hes got it covered, and if they have any doubt, they need only notice the carefree attitude plants have.

He teaches us to look and learn from them, for how much more will He care for us when He cares so much for the lilies of the field? Its a reassurance that He cares about our anxieties, that they are not greater than He.

And in the book of Philippians, it tells us to be anxious for nothing but in all things give thanks for this is the will of Christ Jesus . Paul couldnt have stated it clearer, in other words: Heres my will for my church to always be thankful. And heres what I dont want for them to be anxious. So, if we believe the dictionarys definition of sin is a state of nature in which the self is apart from God, then anxiety is a sin.

However, as stated above, it is a subtle habit of the mind, one that is not always an active choice, or a choice at all, but a reality, nonetheless, that entered the world once humanity fell .
