Have You Ever Wondered: Why Did Jesus Need To Pray
Recently I came across this verse in Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Usually when I read this verse I am impressed with the fact that Jesus got up to pray while it was still dark. If Jesus felt the need to get up and pray a great while before day, then maybe, just maybe, you and I need to as well.
Well, of course we do.

No wonder our Lord was sorrowful and troubled , and His soul was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death . Jesus agony was due to the cross which loomed before Him. He was not in agony because He would be forsaken by men, but that He would be forsaken and smitten by God. Jesus was dreading, suffering in the anticipation of His bearing of the sins of the world and the wrath of God which they deserved.

Like John said, there would be no room to keep it. However, the amazing number of times that the Bible records Jesus praying is there to teach us something about prayerthat it is essential for Christian life and godliness and is essential for all Christian ministry. Jesus Prayed Because God Infused In Him A Spirit Of Prayer
In Psalm 22 we catch some glimpses of the various details of Christs life, not just his crucifixion that so prominently features in this Psalm.
Christs life of prayer began at birth. Psalm 22 finds its ultimate fulfillment in Christ, though its immediate story is that of David. The Father prepared a body for Christ, which was formed by the Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary. According to the natural limits of his humanity, Christs early prayer life was clearly not as developed as it would be at the end of his life.
Experience is a great teacher for our prayers, and the more he experienced, the more his prayers would develop in light of those experiences, challenges, and struggles. Whatever acts of consent were possible toward the Father, involving the deliberate use of his human will, Christ performed perfectly, but also appropriately according to his age and stage in life.
His acts of reason were married together with the holy principles in his heart formed by the Holy Spirit. His heart, soul, mind, and strength all directed his actions in a manner appropriate to his age and capacity for spiritual acts of reason. He possessed the habit of faith from the womb, which would then bring forth particular acts of faith at the appropriate time in response to God and his Word.

Why Did Jesus Pray

A study of the Gospels reveals that Jesus prayed. Often. It was hishabit. In fact, the time Jesus spent in prayer and the depth of his prayersputs our own prayer lives to shame.
But why did Jesus pray? And why did he pray so much? The only Son of God,eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God fromtrue God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father? Surely Jesus did not pray tomerely leave us an example, for most of the times we find Jesus praying he istrying to be alone . As he himself advocated,When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father whois in secret .
Nevertheless, in the Gospels, when Jesus prays or refers to prayer, wecan discern why it was so important to him to pray. Furthermore, learning moreabout what motivated Jesus to pray is a wonderful way to strengthen our ownhabit of prayer.
The Superhuman Suffering Of Jesus In Gethsemane
39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, Pray that you will not fall into temptation. 41 He withdrew about a stones throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me yet not my will, but yours be done. 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
Jesus was pressing on to His own cross, even while in the Garden of Gethsemane. Luke tells us that Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives . Furthermore, we are told that the Savior and the disciples reached the place . This was all a part of the plan. While Jesus had deliberately been secretive about the location of the place where the Passover meal was to be celebrated, He was completely open and predictable about the place where He would be on that fateful night. He followed His custom, He acted according to a very predictable pattern. Judas would know exactly where to lead the arresting officers, at the place, the place where they had stayed every night. There is no elusiveness here, for it was Jesus time to be betrayed. He will be taken, but it is not by surprise. Everything is proceeding according to the plan, and according to our Lords predictions.

Should I Pray Three Times A Day
You should pray as often as your schedule allows you to. The men of God who prayed three times a day did so because they wanted to and were able. Nowhere in the Bible does it command us to pray at certain times. Instead, the Bible leaves it up to us to decide how often we should pray.
The only command that we have regarding how often we should pray is that we should be devoted to it.
rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving
Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart
Nowhere does the Bible tells us that we should pray three times a day, seven times a day, only in the morning, etc. The Bible just tells us to pray and to be consistent in our times of praying.
The Bible does, however, give us many examples of men and women of God who would have certain times of prayer, but that is all those are examples. They are recorded for our benefit. They act as a guide for us, not a law.
If your schedule allows you to pray three times per day and you desire to pray that often, then of course do it. It can only be beneficial for you.
But if you are unable to pray that often and you only have free time in the morning or evening, then use that time to glorify God and get to know Him.
Isaac, the patriarch, would spend time with God in the evening time.
Jesus Christ Provides An Outline For Prayer
Then Jesus got more specific. He said, In this manner, therefore, pray .
He then gave an example prayer that, sadly, has been misused by many in mainstream Christianityin direct contradiction of His instruction in verse 7 to not use repetitious prayers! This is commonly called the Lords Prayer and is recited repetitively in many denominations.
But Christ did not give this prayer for us to repeat over and over.
So what was Christ teaching us in the so-called Lords Prayer? Essentially, Jesus was providing an outline to show the general structure and topics that should be included in our regular prayers to God. This outline would more accurately be called a model prayer.

God wants a deep, personal relationship with you. To build that relationship, you need to communicate with Him through prayer. In order for those prayers to be effective and fervent , we must allow Jesus Christ to teach us how to pray and remove traditions that contradict what He taught!
