What Does The Bible Say About Fathers And Sons

For What Children Are Not Disciplined By Their Father

What Does The Bible Say: Son Of The Father, or The Father Incarnate?

âEndure hardship as discipline God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?â

The writer of Hebrews encourages believers to treat our struggles against sin and difficult circumstances as discipline from our father. The passage goes on to suggest that while our earthly fathers discipline us to point us toward what they think is best, God disciplines us so that we may share in his holiness.

âMoreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.â âHebrews 12:9â11

Similar to the encouragement we see in James 1:2â4, this passage isnât suggesting that our hardships are in any way enjoyable or that Christians donât suffer through them. Rather, we can be encouraged by the knowledge that our trials are refining our faith and transforming us into better Christ followers.

As For Me And My Household We Will Serve The Lord

âBut if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.â

Parents make important decisions for their families about how to use their resources, how to spend their time, what to prioritize, and even what ideas and worldviews will influence those decisions. A father plays an important role in shaping their familyâs ideology. A good father makes choices that help their spouses and children orient their lives around God and recognize opportunities to serve his purposes.

Christ Incarnate And The Work Of Salvation

Jesus expounds upon this unity and its role in salvation in John 14:6 when He says, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Some critics of the Christian faith point to these words of Jesus and cry foul. They excoriate us for insisting that Jesus represents the only way to salvation or to communion with God. Yet, this verse establishes that only through the Son can people come to know the Father. We rely on a perfect, holy mediator between us and a holy God. Jesus does not withhold knowledge of the Father as some think. He simply declares the fact that people who do not trust in His oneness with the Father are blind to the reality of God the Father, Son, and Spirit. Jesus came into the world to announce the Father that is to make Him known. John 1:18 says, No one has ever seen God the only God, who is at the Fathers side, he has made him known.

The unity of God becomes visible in the work of salvation even, paradoxically, as Jesus appears to draw a distinction between the Son of God and Son of Man when He says, No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him . Here Jesus speaks of His dependence upon the Father while He bears the frail form of the suffering servant. Christs incarnation does not deprive Him of His divine power in the lowly state, And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself . He manifests His heavenly authority to give life to whom he will .

Even in our current culture and time, there are a variety of popular parental styles. You may know them by their nicknames such as the helicopter parent, the tiger mom, and the free-range parent. Each of these parenting styles assumes a distinct belief system about the needs, nature, and capabilities of children. Do you subscribe to one of these? You may need to challenge your underlying assumptions. As Christians, we must look to the bible to understand children and our roles in parenting them.

Do Not Embitter Your Children

Father Son Bible Quotes. QuotesGram

âFathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.â

Our families are one of the greatest proving grounds for our faith. Our children, spouses, parents, and siblings are most likely to see us at our weakest, in the moments when itâs hardest to do and say what is loving. In his instructions to households, Paul cautions fathers not to cause their children to become bitter, as it can discourage them.

His Father Saw Him And Was Filled With Compassion For Him

âBut while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.â

The Prodigal Son is a powerful portrayal of a loving father. The father in Jesusâ story symbolizes God and his love for us, and he also shows us a love every dad should aspire to. His son effectively said, âI wish you were dead so I could have my inheritanceâ and then abandoned him. Despite the hurt he surely felt, the father not only welcomed his son with open arms, but he ran to greet him, hugging and kissing him.

At times children deeply wound their fathers. The ideal father humbles himself and doesnât allow his pain or frustration to overpower his love.

Some Final Thoughts On Bible Says About Parenting

There are more Bible verses about parenting than Ive gone into here. Keep in mind that just because a particular scripture is not directly addressing parents, that doesnt mean it doesnt apply to parenting. If you stick only to verses that directly address parents, you will miss out on all that the bible has to offer you in your many roles as a parent.

Everything that applies to the role as well as every verse that talks about the other applies to parents. In all we do as Christians, we are to follow the pattern of Jesus. I didnt say it specifically above, maybe because it doesnt feel like a responsibility, but you do have a duty to love our children.

Be wary of Christian advice that doesnt sit well with you. It may be tainted by worldly influences and worries. Ask the Holy Spirit, pray, and research scripture for yourself before trying any parenting advice.

God doesnt want you to focus on a set of rigid rules, styles, or procedures. He is a Father who wants a relationship with you. He wants you to keep seeking and asking Him for his presence and guidance as you go along in life. It is only through continuous dependence on Him that you can live into your biblical role as a parent.

Fathers Day Verses About God As Our Heavenly Father

Praise God, He is our Heavenly Father who will never leave us or forsake us. God is the perfect father and thanks to Jesus sacrifice, we can know Him personally. May you experience Gods unfailing love as you read these incredible truths:

  • Isaiah 64:8 “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter we are all the work of your hand.”
  • James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
  • 1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
  • Romans 8:15 “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father.
  • Psalm 103:13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

Invest Time In Your Son

What Does The Bible Say The Father, Son, Angels & Israel Look Like?

My dad’s generation – the depression era “builders” – showed their love for my generation by working hard to provide for us. Often, though, it would have been better to give us more time. By contrast, my generation – the baby boomers – when present in the home have become more “hands-on” fathers. While I was far from perfect, these are ideas I successfully employed as a dad:

Dad, can I be frank? Fathering a child creates responsibility. The chief responsibility of fathering is time.

My son, John, recently married, and he and I were talking about the kind of career he wants to pursue. He said, “Dad, you were there for all my ball games. That really meant a lot to me. That’s what I want to be able to do for my kids. I need a career that let’s me do that.”

I was there for him because my dad was there for me. To “be there” takes time. Because my dad broke the cycle, I was able to “be there” for my son and daughter. What joy is mine to see the legacy I have passed on! No matter what your experience has been, you, too, can break the cycle if you will invest the time.

Examples Of Good Parents In The Bible

Sometimes reading over the examples of good parents in the Bible can be enlightening to us parents today. There are many great examples of both good and bad parents in the bible. Were just going to focus on the good examples here. Ive chosen three examples of roles that stand out to me, as good examples for the rest of us parents. I saved the best for last.

Being A Father Like God The Father

God our father in heaven is the perfect example of what a father should be. Strong, courageous, compassionate and even-tempered. We would do well to follow His example in all that we do.

1 Corinthians 16:13 Be on your guard stand firm in the faith be courageous be strong.

Deuteronomy 1:29-31 Then I said to you, Do not be terrified do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.

Malachi 4:6 And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.

Psalm 103:13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

Proverbs 17:27 The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.

Proverbs 17:24 A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fools eyes wander to the ends of the earth.

Proverbs 14:26 Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.

Proverbs 10:9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.

Happy Father’s Day : Father’s Day Is Celebrated Every Year In The Month Of June 3rd Sunday

Happy Father’s Day 2021:Father’s day is celebrated every year, in the month of June, 3rd Sunday. This year, it falls on 20th June. Every father plays significant role in a child’s life. Many people tend to exchange cards, prepare hearty meals, bake cakes and even present flowers to their fathers as a symbol of their gratitude and love.

When we read the bible, we understand how heavenly father has loved the world, that he did not spare his only son, but gave him up for us all, hence surely he will give us good things

We may have heard many times, that God loves us, he is our father, his love is unconditional, no matter what. Not everyone is ready to accept it a few may struggle to believe it because they might have a experienced negative relationship with their own father or sincerely disbelieve that someone might really love and care for them unconditionally, as the world is so selfish.

Some of the quotes from the Bible about father’s love

1.Psalm 103:13

As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

2.1 John 3:1

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

3.Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

4.Ephesians 6:4

5.Proverbs 22:6

6.Psalm 127:3-5

7.Colossians 3:21

Start Children Off On The Way They Should Go

Pin on Best Of Christianity

âStart children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.â

Fathers play a vital role in shaping how their children see the world and understand right and wrong. As kids mature into adults, they make their own choices about what to do with their lives, how to treat others, and how to understand their relationship to God. Dads get to help lay the foundation for those decisions. Parenting isnât the only variable in how kids turn out though. A father canât know what specific challenges their child may encounter on the path, and he canât control how his children will react. He can only start them on the path.

The Good Father In The Bible

In the parable most known as The parable of the prodigal son, Jesus tells about a father who gives lavishly to both of his sons. One goes off to live foolishly and the other stays home resentfully. Its not his lavishly giving money and things that make him a good father What makes him a good father is that he gives of himself so lavishly. He is humble and kind low on judgment and big on mercy.
