Late Antiquity And Early Middle Ages
Following the conversion of Constantine and the Edict of Milan in 313, the ecumenical councils of the 4th, 5th and 6th centuries, that focused on Christology, helped shape the Christian understanding of the redemptive nature of resurrection, and influenced both the development of its iconography, and its use within Liturgy.
Belief in bodily resurrection was a constant note of the Christian church in antiquity. accepted it at the time of his conversion in 386. Augustine defended resurrection, and argued that given that Christ has risen, there is resurrection of the dead. Moreover, he argued that the death and resurrection of Jesus was for the salvation of man, stating: “to achieve each resurrection of ours, the savior paid with his single life, and he pre-enacted and presented his one and only one by way of sacrament and by way of model.”
The 5th-century theology of Theodore of Mopsuestia provides an insight into the development of the Christian understanding of the redemptive nature of resurrection. The crucial role of the sacraments in the mediation of salvation was well accepted at the time. In Theodore’s representation of the Eucharist, the sacrificial and salvific elements are combined in the “One who saved us and delivered us by the sacrifice of Himself”. Theodore’s interpretation of the Eucharistic rite is directed towards the triumph over the power of death brought about by the resurrection.
Jonah : 17b & Hosea : 12
Jonahs sojourn in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights has major theological significance. Jonahs experience in the fish parallels Davids prophecy of the Messiah in his grave . Jonah probably alludes to Psalm 16:10 and 103:4, among other passages, by using the word pit in Jonah 2:6 . Hence, Jonahs three days in the fish elaborates on Psalm 16.
In the book, Jonah acts as Israels corporate representative. This implies his resurrection will be Gods kindness for his people as well.
That is confirmed in Hos 6:1-2 which explicitly states, . . . for he has torn us, that he may heal us he has struck us down, and he will bind us up. After two days he will revive us on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. According to Hosea, Israel will die in exile . However, God will raise them from the dead on the third day. The verb to revive or make alive means to bring someone back from the dead .
Hosea also discusses Messiah in his corporate solidarity or connection with his people. Both are Gods son . Given this connection, the peoples resurrection will be their representatives and vice versa. This is confirmed by the fact that this entire train of thought was building upon Ps 16 in the first place .
Jesus Will Come Again
Jesus left no doubt that He will return again to complete His mission of salvation for mankind:
“Don’t be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly. When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”

On The Road To Emmaus

You know I think we have this sense that if you show me something is the best answer I’m just going to go, “Dude, you’re right,” and I’m going to believe, right? I’m jumping on board because you showed me. All right, let me just show a moment here that is so far from true. Let’s say you are going to introduce your wife’s sister or your wife’s best friend to your best buddy who’s single. He’s going to go on a blind date, and you tell him “You will tell me when this is over she’s the best thing you’ve ever met and you’ve never met anybody who would make a better wife.”
The guy spends some time with her, and he could say this, “Hey, she’s a great gal, she really is, and if I were going to get married, I could see this especially if I get to know her and stuff, but see you’re under the mistaken allusion I want to get married which I don’t. So, I don’t mind having a good time with her, but I’m not going to get married, at least not right now. Maybe never. Just not going there.” So, even if you’ve convinced me something’s best, here’s this job and here’s this job. You make more money. It’s closer to home. Why don’t you just take this one? Well, who knows what reasons people make choices for, but they’re not always the best. Maybe I’m nervous. Maybe I don’t want to speak publicly even though I’ll make more money. I understand those things.

In his Letter to the Philippians, the apostle Paul looked forward to the time he could leave this earthly life behind and be with Christ:
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.

Was The Resurrection Of Jesus Real Or Just A Story To Push An Agenda
There is no question about whether this resurrection of the Nazarene is metaphorical or physical. Over five hundred people saw Him, many of whom would live to the twilight of the first century. These witnesses could have unmasked Paul, Peter, James, and the others as mad-men had they another story to tell. There would have been profit in doing so, for the message of the resurrected and living Jesus was wrecking entire economies built on archaic, sensual religions of mythology and mirth.
Instead, the Way grew by leaps and bounds. Imprison the Apostles and their cells became chapels. Bind them with chains and shackles and their prisons became parishes. Dispatch the most highly-trained and loyal palace guards, and the captors became Christians. To the utter dismay of violent antagonists, lengthy imprisonments following kangaroo court trials were but leisurely catechetical periods resulting in faith in Jesus by the highest officials in the realm. The resurrection changed everything. Nothing would be the same again.

Although resurrection literally means to rise up or stand up, to a believer, resurrection means that their eternity is sealed in Jesus. Resurrection is one of the foundational beliefs of the Christian faith. It is by the grace of God that we have been saved though faith in Jesus and we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. This means that we can live in victory today, right now, in this moment because of the finished work of Christ. Romans 8:11 says, The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

There is a beautiful moment in John 11:25-26 when Jesus decides to raise Lazarus from the dead. He looks at Martha and says, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?
