What Does The Bible Say About Psychics

What Should Christians Do Instead

What does the Bible say about psychics

Its completely normal to be worried about the future. We all want to know what will happen tomorrow, and get anxiety. However, using tarot is not the correct way to sooth those fears. We should not put our faith in tarot, and instead put it into the Lord. Isaiah 46:10 says “Only God holds the future, and only He truly knows what will happen”. This is further echoed in Romans 8:17: “If you desire to have peace about your future, turn to the Lord Jesus Christ. The future is bright for those who know Him”.

Isaiah 8:19 reminds us further that we should be trusting in God, and Him alone. It says: “People will say to you, ‘Ask for help from the mediums and the fortunetellers, who whisper and mutter.’ Shouldnt people ask their God for help instead? Why should they ask the dead to help the living?”

Proverbs 3:5-7 is another verse that many Christians turn to when they are dealing with anxiety. It says: “Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths smooth. Do not consider yourself wise. Fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”

While tarot cards may sound fun, its not something that Christians should dabble in. Instead, remember what the Lord has already promised you and turn to Him when you are stressed over the future. Tarot cards will only lead you down a path to Satan, and can leave you feeling worse than you ever did before.

Spiritual Guidance Comes From God Alone

The Bible teaches that spiritual guidance should be sought from God alone through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. He has provided everything we need for this life in his Holy Word:

As we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life. He has called us to receive his own glory and goodness!

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.

Jesus is the only mediator we need between this world and the world to come:

For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and people. He is the man Christ Jesus.

That is why we have a great High Priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God. Let us cling to him and never stop trusting him.

Our God is a living God. Believers have no reason to seek the dead:

When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? Consult Gods instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

Why Is The Bible So Against Mediums

The apostle Paul warns us in Ephesians 6 that there is much at work in the spirit world. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realmsEphesians 6:12 NIV. We dont have eyes that see this work and so, we must trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Paul doesnt encourage us to engage in spiritism in order to understand this world, but instead, to put on the full armor of God. These itemsthe belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of Godare our protection and our defense.

Christians arent warned to avoid mediums and spiritists because its malarky but because there is real power behind much of it, but its the power of darkness. This is the realm of demons, and we are not to call on demons for help and expect a good result. They are masters of deception, trickery, and lies. They dont serve God and their goal is our destruction. Unfortunately, they disguise themselves as angels of light.

The temptation to indulge in these widespread practices will be strong for many, especially, like Saul, at vulnerable moments, but the result of inviting the dark world of mediums and spiritists into our lives is devastation, not comfort and light.

What Does The Bible Say About Tarot Cards

For Christians, our future isnt hidden in the cards.

Scripture makes it clear that psychics are evil and they are an abomination to the Lord. Yet in today’s society, horoscopes, tarot cards, palm readings, and the like are growing in popularity by the day. As Christians, we need to pause and fully understand the power of these divination tools, and learn what God really has to say about them. By reading and analyzing the Bible, we can understand how a seemingly harmless tarot reading can actually lead one down a path of darkness and evil.

What Happens When Saul Consults The Medium At Endor

What Does the Bible Say About Witches and Warlocks ...

In ancient Israel, during his reign, King Sau rightly expelled all mediums and spiritists from the land of Israel. In 1 Samuel 28, however, Samuel has died, and Saul is suddenly full of fear of the Philistines.

Fear is a bad place from which to make decisions. We need to be careful when were afraid. Saul seeks answers from God, but God has departed from Saul, so he hears nothing from God or Gods prophets. When we dont hear from God, its a good time to examine our hearts and lives for unconfessed sin. To repent. To press into the Lord and wait patiently for His response.

Saul does none of this. Instead, he asks his attendants where he might find a medium and they let him know there is one living in Endor. Saul disguises himself and pays her a visit in the night under the cover of darkness. He clearly understands that what he is doing should not be done so he hides under disguise and under darkness.

Saul asks the medium to conjure up Samuel from the dead. Samuel appears and has a message for Saul that because of his disobedience and because the Lord has departed from him, tomorrow, he and his sons will die in battle and Israel will be handed over to the Philistines. The kingdom has already been given to David.

Saul is weakened and terrified by this vision and does, indeed, meet his death in battle the next day.

What Does The Bible Say About Calling On Psychics

What does the Bible say about calling on psychics?

We are warned by Yahweh not to call on familiar spirits. Seeking to commune with any other spirit being besides Yahweh is strictly forbidden. Yahweh has commanded that all worship must go to Him. He is zealous for His people and will not allow them to commit idolatry in such wicked ways.

And the soul that turns to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards, to play the harlot after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people

Dr. E.W. Bullinger in his Companion Bible says that these familiar spirits are evil spirits impersonating human beings. Ghosts are nothing more than evil spirits trying to confuse mankind. Yahweh says that when a person dies that their spirit returns to Him and all their thoughts perish in the grave. Our spirit is our life source that Yahweh has given to us.

Many people today consult psychics, fortunetellers, astrology and other such spiritualism hoping that they can obtain the answers to life, but they do not realize that they are actually calling on Satans spirit realm. Many who play with ouija boards are ignorant of the fact that they are involving themselves in the spirits of darkness.

Talking To The Dead In The Bible

  • The Old Testament teaches that believers are defiled by their attempts at communicating with the dead, a practice that is detestable to God.
  • The New Testament instructs believers to seek guidance from God and his Spirit only.
  • The Bible reveals that psychic experiences are real but demonic, and that deceiving sprits are counterfeits for the true Spirit of God.

What Does The Bible Say About Horoscopes And Zodiac Signs

Horoscopes and zodiac signs are related to the practice of astrology and divination as mentioned in the Bible. Practicing them is prohibited by God. A horoscope is generated when an astrologer examines specific dates in the life of a person and compares them to the locations of the stars at those times. Zodiac signs are constellations of stars that lie within a specific latitude band in the sky. As celestial bodies move in that band related to the earth, an astrologer will apply the rules of their craft to develop a horoscope for a person or other entity.

What Does The Bible Say About Psychics And Fortune Tellers

What the Bible Says About Psychics

A psychic is someone that attempts to explain things without obvious answers via metaphysical methods. You may have heard of telekinesis, ESP, or clairvoyance in different places and they are categorized as psychic practices. Related to this, a fortune teller is someone that practices divination, or the ability to see spiritual significance in mundane things such as reading tea leaves, reading the lines in a persons palm, reading the cracks in bones, and seeing patterns in the surface ripples of certain liquids. A spiritual guide or connection is often related to the ability to do this.

In the Biblical languages, aw-nan , keh-sem , python , and manteuomai would be related to our terms of psychic, witchcraft, and/or fortune-teller. In the Bible, these practices are always condemned without exception. One thing that is interesting in studying the languages, there is always an understanding that an exchange of money or a payment is happening for the services of the practitioner.

People make money off of these practices and often, as in the case of the young woman in Acts 16:16-19, the diviner is being exploited in some manner. Perhaps this is an indicator of the internal, spiritual reality of the people who practice fortune-telling or psychic readings. Leviticus 20:6 refers to this state of affairs as spiritual prostitution.

What Does The Bible Say About Psychics

Since the beginning of civilization, we have sought the help of shamans, seers, wise women and mystics to interpret the metaphysical nature of the universe. Our ancestors lived a much more spiritual life than we do today, they watched the stars, revered nature and worshipped gods and goddesses.

For a time in history, supernatural phenomena integrated effortlessly into daily life. Ancient Egyptians were the original believers in the immortal the soul. They strived to become worthy of immortality by working hard in this life to prepare for the next. The Greek masters also accepted this concept, and eventually, early Christians adopted the belief into their scriptures.

The bible is abundant with miraculous stories illustrating the psychic powers of its most prominent figures, including Jesus himself. Despite this, practising psychics, are misrepresented and vilified in the scriptures. Today many orthodox preachers still testify to the danger of psychics, warning their flock away from them.

What Are Tarot Cards

The tarot is a deck of 78 cards, each with its own imagery, symbolism and story. They were developed about 600 years ago for gaming. However, some mystics, psychics, and occultists began to use the cards for divination, and today the cards and the ability to read them are seen as elements of fortune-telling. To receive a tarot reading is to attempt to find out things about ones life or future through the occult.

Usually, the practice of reading tarot cards starts with the questioner cutting the pack of cards or sometimes just touching it. The psychic or card reader then deals out some cards, face down, into a pattern, called a spread, on the table. As the cards are overturned, the psychic or reader constructs a narrative based on the cards meanings and their position on the table. Reading tarot cards places a heavy emphasis on fate, hidden knowledge, and superstition.

What Does The Bible Say About Mediums

When the Israelites were preparing to enter the Promised Land, it was already inhabited by a people who practiced all kinds of activities that were abominable to or forbidden by God. Repeatedly, He warned His people not to engage in or adopt those practices, as tempting as they would be. Who doesnt wonder about the future? Who doesnt wish to reconnect with a lost loved one who has died? Who doesnt want a guarantee that theyre making the right choices? But there are dangers in seeking these things from those who say theyre in touch with the spirit world.

In Deuteronomy 18:10-12 NIV, God is explicitly clear about forbidding specific occultic practices. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. These practices are precisely why God will command Israel to destroy the Canaanites and drive them from the land that will become Israel. This is how dangerous the practices arethe destruction of nations was necessary to eliminate them.

What About The Magi

What does the Bible say about psychics

Every year at Christmas, or shortly after, we encounter the story of the wise men following a star to locate the newly born King of the Jews . They are called magi and that indicates that they are from the area of Persia/Babylon and are experts in looking to the stars for answers. They are astrologers. How did they know to look for a star that would specifically reveal the birth location of the King of the Jews?

In all likelihood, when Daniel and his friends were in charge of the wise men of Babylon/Medo-Persia, they would have taught some of them about the coming Messiah. The magi were looking for this Messiah the only way that they knew how, via the stars. They did this faithfully for generations until God spoke in a way that their astrological hearts and minds could grasp. A star rose in the east.

Something within themselves compelled them to make a long and dangerous journey. Astrology just wasnt enough. They were looking for Jesus. God honors our desires to find the Messiah just as he honored theirs. In their journey, they moved from simply following a light in the sky to listening to messages from God in their dreams on what to do next in life. The magi show us the path that all of us take. We are far from God, we have a need that only he can fill, and if we commit to it, he will change us to be what we were designed to be.

Was Nostradamus A Fake

Nostradamus writings are a billion-dollar industry. So are those who are self-proclaimed prophets, but according to the BBC, books about Nostradamus is still on the bestseller list on Amazon.com. Despite Nostradamus being proven a fake, he is still widely read. Nostradamus infamy started when he published a collection of prophecies things that were supposed to occur in the future. Even today, Nostradamus has many followers, but maybe they dont know that he eventually turned to the occult and began writing almanacs not that different from the Farmers Almanac today, but Nostradamus was more interested in the future than just predicting the weather. He wanted to become a seer, and look into the future of human history. Something God strictly forbids.

Scriptures Are Posted Below For Reference

I grew up going to Catholic schools, attending church every Sunday, and my faith is incredibly strong, as is my spirituality. It’s unwavering to a fault. It’s fair to say that I’ve read the bible quite a bit through the years and kept some scriptures and teachings tucked aside for reference when it came to skeptics, fundamentalists or religious fanatics who would tell me that my gift as a psychic medium doesn’t exist, or is the work of evil and that I should somehow be convinced to stop healing and helping people . I’d continually hear that the bible says that what I do is evil, yet no one ever sited the specific scripture that validates their claim, hold a meaningful discussion on the topic, or show me how I’ve ever done anything other than help people on an emotional or spiritual level. I’ve always known that my gifts were from God, and that what I was doing was of the highest good, and out of pure love, not evil, so I knew that it would take more than a few scriptures to convince misguided people. They’d have to witness what I do, the healing that it offers people, and truly read what the bible says about prophets and seers.
